  • Discussing some beat'em ups on my channel is long overdue and I can't think of a better first beat'em up review than Night Slashers! Night Slashers is an ultra violent, ultra gory arcade beat'em up from the early 90s that perfectly captures the look and feel of many 1980s horror films. Unfortunately Night Slashers has become pretty obscure since its arcade initial release. I'm here to resurrect this awesome game and examine why it's so awesome and fun to play!

I came across this in the wild only once in the 90's. It was just outside Six Flags in Jackson NJ. Only got a glimpse of it in a poorly lit back room for a few seconds but I never forgot it.

I bought this a couple days ago on the eshop. It was on sale for 1.99! Great game. Great video.

Glad to see new videos! Oh man this one hit the nostalgia button really hard! I grew up in the 90s and loved looking at horror movie VHS box covers at Blockbuster. My father hated horror movies (still does to this day) so my older sister would rent them for me without him knowing lol.
It’s not just you, I don’t ever remember seeing this in the arcades. This game is the true meaning of the term hidden gem and is awesome. I would love a physical release, but the fact that there is even a legitimate eshop release is pretty amazing to be honest. Defiantly worth the price to play on Switch. Great video!

Lucky for me my dad didn't care what I rented so I had pretty unfettered access to many movies, some I was probably too young for lol.
But yes, this game is 100% a hidden gem! Over my years of playing retro games this one was never mentioned in a group or forum, and I certainly have never seen it in the wild. More people need to know about it though since it's freakin awesome!

Incredible intro and excellent review of even better game. This is an IP that begs for anime series. it bursts with excellent designs. It is only of a few beat-em-ups that does not get boring and repetitive until the end. Thanks for reminding me, there is a replay for me one of these days.

I played this game in mid nineties in my crappy local arcade back in Poland. I fell in love with it and was looking all over for it, I am heartbroken that it got delisted from the Switch store. If I knew it was there, I would buy it in a heartbeat. I am a sad panda. 😢

Don't worry, streaming services offers the same experience, looking around on a digital catalogue to choose what to see in a weekend.

Yes, I prefer Night Slashers over Final Fight, and may be over Turtles Im time (Arcade) "may be".

I put off watching this for a while since I don't care about beat em ups (aside from Knights of the Round and Guardian Heroes) but I'm really glad now that I've watched this; I'm sure it will just spontaneously appear on my Switch wishlist later. While the gameplay seems pretty smooth and responsive, the visuals here are the real seller for me. An obscure early 90s beat em up has no right having an artstyle this good, yet here it is. Actually, it sort of surprises me that this is so obscure in the first place with Data East behind it. Weird.
Even weirder is the absence of any rereleases until the Switch. I looked this game up after watching the video to see if it had any home ports for SNES, PC Engine or Mega Drive, but no... It would have done good on the 32X or Saturn and would have been at home on a Dreamcast or PS2 compilation. Pretty sad that this had just faded away from memory.
All in all, this was a great find!

Alright I'll try this one, looks way better than I imagined. I think looking back now Data east might have the best arcade era beat-em-ups. Besides Streets of Rage of course.

Oh man, Streets of Rage was freakin classic! Definitely want to review them all someday.
