I actually think the implication on Jane getting to Valhalla was not because she died in an ordinary battle, but because she died in her battle against cancer. It's not a typical warriors battle, but a battle nevertheless and makes her a warrior as much as she was as Mighty Thor.

      Everything with Gorr was serious.
They just found a better way to work with Thor in the MCU since Ragnarok.
Off course in some of the comics they have that serious/solemn/philosophical/noble feel to them, but I don't think that fits this iteration of the character anymore.

I think, personally the biggest issue with the movie is that is full of potential that we never see fully fledge, if it was a full comedy or romance or serious it would be okay but we see all the elements done well or at least part of it but we don't get enough of any of them, so we see there was a great idea behind it but time runs out of all of them
I think thats why this movie get so much "hate" if it was just a shitty movie people would move on, but seeing the elements that could work generates the anger of what could have been.
In short they cramped to much into the movie had they focus on a single element whever it was the mighty thor or gor would have been better.

I don't think those drawings are just drawn by the god butcherer, as he had a vision of eternity and the bifrost beforehand when he picked up the necrosword for the first time.
What some forget is that the stormbreaker used to be a pre-existing MOLD, it existed long ago and was not made into a weapon recently, and it was said to be able to summon the bifrost and kill the gods.
So normally the bifrost summoning would have been been done be Heimendall but since that bifrost bridge broke to eternity, storm breaker became the only thing that can take him there.
Notice that the wall scriptures showed the bifrost mark, not stormbreaker exclusively.

I always love when they draw on established mythology for Thor's exploits in these films. In norse mythology Thor has a chariot pulled by magic goats which he can eat as many times as he wants, as long as he leaves the bones intact they'll be alive and ready to go when he wakes up the next morning. But because Thor is a dummy, one time he's sheltering in a cave from a blizzard and is feeling greedy, so he cracks open one of the bones to enjoy the juicy marrow, when he wakes up one of the goats has a lame foot.

    @Blind Wave,
42:13 I haven't read Gorr story in the comics, but I know of it from friends and folks online, but I think what's being missed here is that Gorr was possessed by the Necro Sword. Once Jane destroyed it, Gorr was free. He was hurting and he was acting out of anger when he was kneeling before Eternity. Had he still been possessed by the Necro Sword, all gods would have died for sure, as that was his mission, but as he was himself, he had a moment to think, and as you said, Thor was able to reach him and find out what he really wanted, which was his daughter, for her to live a full life.
I liked this story, a lot. I hope we get more Taika Waititi and Thor for many years to come. I think he and Chris are a perfect fit. I hope we get to see Jane Foster come back as Valkyrie too...which makes me wonder if King Valkyrie will finally go by her actual name, Brumhilda--Thor called her Val when Gorr stabbed her, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Honestly Jane IS worthy. Not because she wanted Mjolnir solely to heal herself, but to continue helping humanity. They said this in the movie! AND even though she was told that the transformations were actually killing her she STILL was willing to make that sacrifice to save innocent lives. If that isn’t being worthy of having the power of Thor than no one deserves that power. Also as the son of a mother who fought stage 3A breast cancer I can tell you that you have to have a truly strong will to beat cancer.
Though I do really wish we had gotten more time with Gorr. Not only to get to know him better as a character but also as a true threat to ALL the gods. He’s not called The God Butcher just because he kills gods, in the comics he literally displays some of their bodies on meat hooks and chops some of them to pieces like raw meat. In one scene he kills a massive god and brings its heart (which is the size of a bull) back as a trophy.
That said I actually do love this look as much as his look in the comics. He looks like a monk turned into a vengeful wraith.
ALSO FUN FACT: The little girl who plays Gorr’s daughter Love is actually Chris Hemmsworth’s real life daughter India.

Though in that case ai think some of the choices to keep certain dragged out moments in was the wrong choice. Like the goats were funny the first time then it was immediately too much 🤣 The jokes were dumb but I did properly laugh at a lot of them. I just felt it never really asked me to take any of it seriously, even the more potentially serious bits. And in a movie with child death and kidnap and terminal cancer there definitely could have been some. Couple of moments with Thor and Jane I got the seriousness of just about, but not enough to fully get me emotional. I do kind of feel like there was 3 or 4 potential separate films that I might have been invested in more in isolation but they were all crammed together. Certainly didn't hate it, didn't LOVE it but. Hey ho 🤣

Wow this is basically exactly how I feel. It needed to either flesh some more parts out by allowing to be longer or needed to cut down on the axe/hammer jokes. And for a character called Gor the god Butcher, we don’t see enough of him. Either the whole god capital scene should’ve been cut or it should’ve been some longer sequence of either the aftermath of gor having been there or him being there as they arrive or showing up while they’re there. It did a lot, and it did a lot of really cool things, but in trying so hard to be cool, fit in characters and flip between love story, comedy, horror, action… it never really found it’s footing and feels like another unremarkable entry into a very forgettable phase 4 of marvel.

I don't think it was forced to be heavily edited. From what I read, this was Taika's choice as they trusted him and gave him full reign of this movie after the success of Ragnorak. He's even gone on record saying that a director's cut from him wouldn't be that much longer.
It's also been exaggerated about how much was cut. Many people probably read about how there's a 4-hour cut of the film, but that's the assembly cut. That's not a releasable version of a movie. It's a far cry from a finished, cohesive product and nearly always has to go through significant edits unless you have a filmmaker that does in-camera editing like Spielberg. In reality, we're maybe are missing 20-30 minutes of usable footage? I think that would have helped with Gor's and Sif's stories, but we'd still have problems that you mentioned with pacing and tone.
I think Taika was just a victim of his own success, and someone else needed to reel him in. They needed to let the serious moments take full effect instead of inserting jokes everywhere. It's interesting that he's self-aware of this though. In the same interview where he commented about director's cuts, he says that "directors need to be controlled sometimes". 🕵‍♀

Another thing about the comic book connection is that the events in the Gor series essentially created the situation that allowed Jane to become The Mighty Thor. I don't remember what the context of the statement, but Nick Fury whispers into Thor's ear that, "Gor was right." which makes Thor lose faith and he drops Mjolnir. This is when the hammer finds its way to Jane in her time of need during her battle with cancer.

We could have more Gor being a menace and god butchering and more Jane being a hero and strugling between taking her time to heal the cancer or taking the hammer to help people.

Rick said it well. The movie had a lot of moments I love but I'd love them in another movie. A darker Gorr movie on its own would have been so cool. Christian Bale was really great I thought. Would have loved to see more of him and his storyline.
Also even though I enjoy Taikas style and humour outside of Marvel and really enjoyed Thor Ragnarok... The movie was five things in one held together by silly humour and it only worked kind of. If you watch the behind the scenes stuff it looks like maybe they were having so much fun they got lost in the sauce. 😄

I really believe that we're supposed to realize early on that the story is being told from Korg's perspective and he's not the most reliable storyteller when it comes to the details.
He's also telling the story to children as part of the narration, so it's going to be embellished and have his personality stamped firmly upon it from the start. It makes perfect sense that he would have Thor riding Stormbreaker like a witch's broom, especially after his reaction to Thor's description of how he flew using Mjolnir in Ragnarok. "You rode a hammer?"

I like the movie, love the goats and kids with powers in the end, I don't have any problems with Axl CGI (I think it's actually stupid to say it looks bad, I mean, the kid who's not that great with his powers as Heimdall won't get the same effect as Heimdall, obviously it will look bad; Thor's Helmet, however, looks totally terrible, much much worse than She-Hulk) but the scene with Sif is in my opinion terrible and it has way too much comedy in it. Actually I felt like it was another scene from the theater play with Matt Damon from this movie. The only thing I hated as much as this from Phase 4 are those 3 episodes of Ms. Marvel in Pakistan. Luckily, Sif is still alive so maybe she will be better in future movies. I wish there would be more place in this movie for Gorr. Not because I love the character from the comics, but I love Christian Bale as an actor and this movie did not use him well (although all scenes with him were obviously great). Even though I like the humour of this movie, I'd still wish this one was more serious
