Big D Gets A New Bronco

- We got a call for a bronco that had hit the transmission pan on a rock and lost all it's fluid. So we headed out after it. We took the Scrambler and Big D. We figured if we couldn't get the Ford all the way to it, we could use the Scrambler to get it down to a good enough road to then use the Ford. Which is exactly what we ended up doing. It went fairly well, we just had to take it slow so as to not damage the steering since it's known to be the weak spot on the newer Broncos. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

Trailmater really highlights the split between those who just plunge ahead blindly, and those that have the needed 'situational awareness' in every possible instance!
In this case, Rory got enough preliminary info on the vehicle needing recovery to know how best to address the customer, who is footing the bill! That is next level!!
Having researched the type of vehicle and all its nuances shows why they are so good at what they do! No oopsies, ever!

@@garywaddle7235 I can't fault a guy for trying to make money. If selling tool bags is the way he choses, then a person can simply not watch the live stream. That's what I did. If enough people don't watch, then the tool bag seller will decide to find other ways to make money. Complaining about it on someone else's TH-cam channel probably won't have as much of an effect.

There are plenty of "car review" channels, but this is the only channel that I know that actually shows the engineering weaknesses of different vehicles. The team deserves a reward for finding those weaknesses.

Not a day goes by that I'm not vindicated in building my classic truck not buying new. I just can't imagine spending 90k + on an off road vehicle that can't go off-road 😂

That was amazing! I am so glad I talked my daughter out of buying one of those and paying for it for 6 years. Plastic pan on an $80k off road vehicle makes zero sense. I love the way you so eloquently described it for what it is… and I’m a Ford guy 😅
you are absolutely correct…new Broncos have extremely weak front bumper supports. They will bend very easily. Ask the guys at Broncbuster.

It is just beyond me how people think because they bought the "Super Off road" version of any brand of vehicle. That they can then go run the same trails they have seen purpose built vehicles do. And to do so without looking their new car over to see if there may be a weak spot. While it does make for some great content and revenue for Rory and crew. This type of recovery has to be very expensive, or at least it should be, for the owner. As always this was a great recovery for the team. Big D seems to be a bit long in the wheel base for these trails.

Note to self: put some skid plates on my Bronco before driving it on a trail like that one. So far I have stuck to easier stuff, like the White Rim Trail. I enjoyed watching this video. Thanks for sharing with us.
Note to self just because it says 4 x 4 worthy doesn’t mean it’s 4 x 4 worthy they’re built like junk from the factory. I know they don’t tell you in the owners manual that want to spend 50 grand bronco you’re gonna have to put 25 grand in it to make it worth of shit.

@@beaumont9072 Actually, mine was under $40K and has been great for driving in the hills and through mud and snow. As long as I stay away from the big rocks it works very well unmodified. You must be a Jeep guy or something.
Certainly if you are going off roading you want at least the factory skid plates. BD and BL come with them. WT only gets the front if it has the Mod Front bumper.

Another great one fellas. Best part was the hardy laugh on the ground observing the genius design....can imagine this scenario. Ford engineer says...'no skid plates and a plastic transmission pan won't appeal to real off roaders'... Ford exec says...'our market is roof tenters!'😂
Bean counter says those skids will add 10.99 to each vehicle...no way !

The modification to Big D’s wheel lift worked great!
As a life long Ford lover, I am embarrassed that they market the Bronco as being Off-Road but then use a plastic transmission pan!

I don't think any stock vehicle belongs out there, no matter what decals it has.
Properly optioned there is nothing stopping a Bronco from being out there. The plastic pan is not the issue. Not having the correct equipment of the environment is.
My main concern is the lack of a dipstick-oil filler. That makes the entire car a liability in anything but a nice wide smooth road.
Did the Rubicon with my bone stock 21 Badlands 6 speed MT. Extremely capable vehicle when properly configured for your intended use.

Shawn has developed some very skillful operations at running non running off road vehicles on the trails. Your the Man, Shawn.

Two words - skid plates. You can order them with the vehicle or put them on after market. It's not all that difficult to protect the vehicle.
My prior 3 zj version grand cherokee all came with factory skid plates, my current 98zj lerado upcountry edition has even beefier versions than the prior 3 regular laredo ones had, and a 5.2 instead of the 4.0

My wife having owned the big old school Bronco, laughs at the new ones. Myself, I just keep my Silverado diesel on the pavement. Regardless, the scenery in this video, as with many others, is breathtaking. I have so much respect for team Rory, strong equipment and talented people. 😊
Stock for stock the new ones will out wheel any of the old school ones. Controversial to say it but it's true.

l would really like to see Rory take a Bronco on one of those trails and see how far he can go with it using his skills, knowledge and years of experience. Especially if the Bronco had a few minor mods like decent bash plates etc. lt would be a great challenge and l think we'd all be surprised how well it would do.

Not really a place for Big D, but you do what's needed. Nice recovery. Very frustrating to not be able to add or check trans fluid now. More money for the shops. Always a watchful eye on the customers vehicle. Nice catch Rory. Good teamwork all around. Thanks for sharing.
Nice niche for an entrepreneur to come up with a good way to add a transmission dipstick/filler to these new vehicles.

Love it. My groups had the first bronco to find that flaw in the trail during a deep snow run. Ended up doing a run for parts, spending the night and then replacing the pan the next day. Talons Garage fixes that issue now;)

You could just roll it on it's roof, and put the transmission fluid in the hole it came out of. Then stick the putty in the hole. Hope this helps next time.

You guys should do a little episode of the wheel tire setup and sizes on each of the rigs… might not be cool to some people but to some like me would be super cool to know are those 35’s 37’ 40’s would really help put a lot more perspective on just how big some of these rocks are and how deep some of the stuff your going through is. Skid plates would be cheap compared to that roof contraption.
I sure do love old school no electronics and it doesn't have to go to the dealer when it's broke I can fix it myself. Oh and I'm building a first gen Durango overlander and first thing I did before lifting it or anything was I put full skid plates under it maybe they didn't get that memo 🤣🤣

The fill-for-life automatic transmission confused me when they first showed up, and I'm not any smarter now, than then. It's still confusing to me, and then to saddle an otherwise decent trans with a plastic pan AND no skid plate, just compounds the confusion. It's always 'W T F??" What on earth were the engineers thinking??

When you passed that dark colored rock on the right @-1526, the closeup as you passed, a face appeared for a few seconds
New vehicles all plastic and sealed transmissions. Dealers can charge more to fix them that way! I will stick with my 94 GMC with 267k on it! Good job Rory, Mike and Shawn getting it out!
It's actually,actually amazing that the broncos even reached this far, but then again it's the A team to the recovery again, jeeps or bronco absolutely no worries for the A team. 😊😊😊😊😊.

@@ZombieKillerRex There's a recent Dirtbilly Deluxe video that shows him attacking his hand/finger with an angle grinder. Not deliberately, but the result is the same. Then he appears on this video with his hand bandaged up. Coincidence? I think not.
