Hey Rory, Mike & Shawn - Another excellent recovery video. BAD FORM on the customer for not returning your tie-rod clamp. Keep up the great work fellers.
I have five patents. To patent the tie-rod clamp, he would have to prove there is no prior art or no device of the same type. Or, he could attempt to patent a device that improves existing devices of the same type. In either case, you have a video demonstrating he did not invent the tie rod clamp, so he cannot patent the device. If he is allowed a patent pending status, you can dispute that status by providing the US Patent Office with the video as proof he did not invent the tie rod clamp. At that point, they will not issue a patent.

How to get a patent: 1. Make an engineering drawing of your device (Rudy could do that for you) 2. Write a description of what it does and what the benefit is 3. Hire a patent attorney, who will do the research whether it is patentable or not. If patentable, he/she will apply for a patent with the US Patent office PS. If Barnes has one and it is not patented, you can still go forward, but tell your attorney about it. If it is patented , you will have to prove that yours is substantially different and better than theirs, which may be difficult.
I remember watching the video when you made that sleeve and wondered why you never used it. Know we know! What a POS that guy is for stealing your property.

Rory. I have went through the patent process and have received patents, and have others that are patent pending. My advice is that it isn't worth it. Average cost is $350k. Then you have to defend it in court. Make your design, sell them on your website, and be happy with how it works out. A lot less headaches, and you will make more money in a shorter time frame. Bull shit. I have a patent for a process & tooling in a narrow market. $4-6k. Done. Very specific rules though, and because it was released to the public prior to staking a claim, it would be up to a jury now. That dude is a piece of garbage.
I have benn involved in multiple patents dealing with commercial dehumidification. It didn't cost 350K. Didn't cost anywhere near that, even with legal assistance. At MOST, you're talking 25K TOPS. Usually somewhere between 2K-10K depending on complexity. Rory's invention, probably 5 or so. MAYBE a bit more, but definitely not 350K. That's an insane price right there. I hope you aren't paying that. I REALLY hope you aren't the Rivian owner 😂
No, the average cost for you may have been 350k, but its not for everybody and certainly not for an item like this tie rod clamp. Ignoring the issue and selling the thing may end up costing him a lot if somebody else patents it, maybe sells the patent and the new owner sues Rory over selling the clamp, maybe not even knowing that he is the designer of this specific variant of this. Sure he can prove he designed it, he has footage of it. But once you're in litigation, the money drain is ON. Provided a patent for something that has indeed been done in various variations can even be claimed.
I remember the day that you manufactured that way of repairing the pinion arm I think it’s genius. It would work in so many different areas as well. If I need one I’ll just drive to Moab come to the shop by a T-shirt. You can help me make one lol

There's a difference between being in view of the public, and being in "The public domain." Sure you might snap a picture with someone in it in the background, but that's a picture of you or your friends. You could take a person's picture and post it without some form of consent, verbal or written, but that would open yourself up to liabilities and they can always report the image and click the box that says this is a picture of me and... then there's something like this, this youtube channel is monetized, and because it's monetized it makes money, which means that featuring a person's name, image or likeness without their consent would open the channel up to severe liabilities. Typically, there's some kind of agreement or consent to be filmed. Even then, there are things you might film that you might think are innocent, that aren't so innocent when things like insurance companies, law enforcement, or the BLM start to look at a video such as this and begin to involve themselves. Both @Fabrats and @mattsoffroadrecovery have had bad experiences with 3rd parties getting involved after viewing content.

Rory, the tie rod clamp tool does already exist on the market. Yours was more robust than what I’ve seen. They are made for body shops to be able to easily move wrecks
Did you see those guys? They didn’t steal it, they don’t own any tools to get it off. Someone at a dealership somewhere that swapped the tie rod either kept it for their person off-road recovery kit, or it hit a scrap bin with the old tie rod. Good part is, Rory probably made 4 more by now. Sorry your tool didn’t get returned, just glad you have the knowledge to make more!
His clamp seems like a universal/adjustable version of the Broncbuster clamp. I’m sure his version is very useful for all the different jeeps to sxs he rescues with busted tre’s!
I saw someone start a syphon with a shop air line blower, and had to try it myself. It's the easiest way I've tried so far - pipe from tank down to can, air line in alongside the pipe, hand over the gas cap, one quick squirt, job done. Also, I know bad taste isn't illegal, so the rest of that thing probably is ok on the road, but how the hell can you get away with driving on the road with those window tints?! We're allowed 15% max on the front windows where I live, those looked nearly opaque!
To the thief, give the man his freaking tool back. Bad idea loaning tools or trusting people in general. Sorry to be so negative but I`ve been there. My grandson and I like old stuff that goes vroom vroom, like your stuff. Cool channel.
Getting custom diecast vehicles is REALLY expensive. What Matt did was find an existing vehicle and get a custom paint & packaging, still expensive, but not insane.
Yes, your clamps have been patented. You can find them in the hardware store and the plumbing department for pipe seal. Pipe leak, seal and also the US. Navy's been using them on their submarines for years. God bless you rock That guy is out of luck. Sorry, that's what happens when karma bites you in the butt. God bless you all love you rock.I'm glad you got a beautiful woman to be beside you❤❤❤
So sad that some people are not trustworthy after fixing their Rivian to not return your special tool you made for repairs like this. I hope you got it back!
Gas Tank - Always put in the biggest one you can. The 4x4 I drove the most only came with a 16 gallon tank (1989 Nissan D21 Hardbody). So I added a second transfer tank, 25 gallon. Highway range was a 1000 miles! Compare to my 1968 Jeepster Commando or my 1968 International Scout, I just never went anywhere without gas cans on those.
It’s a handy dudad no mistake but no one’s getting rich off it. It is only really useful to an off-road recovery company because you need a portable welder. If you thought to buy the dudad just in case your tie rod broke then you already knew the tie was weak and would have upgraded the it already. My understanding is that an idea has to be “patent applied for” before being made public and Rory’s dudad was made really public (100K+ views on average for his vids) when he first showed it in use back in the summer.
Do you wanna try something? That just doesn’t seem right when it comes to siphoning use a juggler hose. I don’t even understand the physics behind it but they’re amazing.
Hopefully, now this video is out he will do the right thing and return your clamp Rory, I would also look into patenting it, I’m sure you will have a subscriber somewhere who deals in that sort of thing who could offer you some advise 🤞
Wow that's pretty low to steal a tool from someone who just saved your fancy-ass truck on a mountain! Yeah Rory, definitely make the customers pay a $500 deposit for that...they can easily afford it judging by their choice of vehicle haha
That's pretty sad! I take my car over worse obstacles. With the steering being so spindly you would think that would have been the first off road upgrade they did.
The early ones had really weak tie rods because the entire subframe has to come apart to replace the rack. Newer ones have slightly better ones as a fuse but I'd sleave mine if I was running trails with it. Without locking diffs, the chance of shocking the drivetrain are pretty high. I would probably just take my built GX470. Is this the second Rivian tie rod you've done or are there others? This is an Apocalypse Nirvana. They do Jeeps as well in case you are shopping 🙂
No OEM vehicle is properly built for off-roading, and the Rivian is no exception. I would like to see a proper off-roader BEV. I think the heat would be an issue in Utah, but the slow crawl of the trail seems like electric would work.
I hate it when people steal when you help them in time of need. Karma will get them

Not so much a Rivian as a Rivian skinned to look all feisty (but actually stupid). That is all colored and textured plastic.

Cool bed liner paint job on the Rivian, they should paint every Cyber truck with that stuff.
I thought it was the same 'furry stuff' in the rear fenderwells of new cars. 🤔
Keep up with the good work love watching your videos on TH-cam God bless all the best for Christmas
Need a close up of the part thief. Riv is defiantly off my shopping list.
Careful Rory, the tie rod clamp is just like Nathan’s “Opti-Grab”. Glasses handle with Steve Martin’s The Jerk! The check’s are in the mail.
His clamp seems like a universal/adjustable version of the Broncbuster clamp.
I’m sure his version is very useful for all the different jeeps to sxs he rescues with busted tre’s!
i have to watch this fast in case of drama, and it is gone.
bet i will enjoy this show also.
Thank you.
The suv in the river was epic. Goodness. Happy holidays amigos🙂
I remember Shaun picked up a small stick and said it was a Bronco tie rod. 😂
You guys as usual are awesome
Rory: Every time I hear Trailmater . I love that Bib Block sound!
glad you documented this on here. Hope this turns out a NON A-hole thing on why no contact, no return
Great job on the rescue, at least the Rivan looks better than the Tesla
I didn't see any license plates on the Rivian. That is a hell of a dedicated off-road toy!
I wish people would follow through on what they say. Something like this is called stealing! Rory takes it in stride on the channel. Commendable Rory!
Thank you for saying derbiss, I'm definitely going to share this with the appropriate people.
To the thief, give the man his freaking tool back. Bad idea loaning tools or trusting people in general. Sorry to be so negative but I`ve been there. My grandson and I like old stuff that goes vroom vroom, like your stuff. Cool channel.
Rory. You should make matchbox toys of your rigs. I would buy one of each. Like Matt did. They sell like pancakes 👍
One comes with a blown engine and the other a transmission of course😂
$50.00 for a matchbox car, nope.
Getting custom diecast vehicles is REALLY expensive.
What Matt did was find an existing vehicle and get a custom paint & packaging, still expensive, but not insane.
That Sounded Amazing And Badass!
God bless you all love you rock.I'm glad you got a beautiful woman to be beside you❤❤❤
I have a Rivian r1s and I have never taken it off-roading. It's such a capable vehicle though.
You guys are legends. Never trust anyone with a waist smaller then 30”
I have yet to break my G- Wagon on Gemini Bridges, but I know Rory, Shawn and Mike would take good care of me if I ever did!
I hope this video makes its way to the guy, especially if he makes it to the comment section. And just in case... Hello from the judgment zone!
Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
I so totally remember this that sucks that they ripped off your idea you guys are awesome
So sad that some people are not trustworthy after fixing their Rivian to not return your special tool you made for repairs like this. I hope you got it back!
Shawn..."DER-BIS"..I lol on that one ever time!
What DB for taking your clamp dude! Definitely be on the lookout for it then sue the hell out of him
Gas Tank - Always put in the biggest one you can.
Rory’s a G for the gooni bird nose joke.
Do you wanna try something? That just doesn’t seem right when it comes to siphoning use a juggler hose. I don’t even understand the physics behind it but they’re amazing.
Hopefully, now this video is out he will do the right thing and return your clamp Rory,
I would also look into patenting it, I’m sure you will have a subscriber somewhere who deals in that sort of thing who could offer you some advise 🤞
They do Jeeps as well in case you are shopping 🙂
great views
Rory Paintent that tie rod saver/ surport now.
This Rivian is the MMTS model (More Money Than Sense).
No OEM vehicle is properly built for off-roading, and the Rivian is no exception. I would like to see a proper off-roader BEV. I think the heat would be an issue in Utah, but the slow crawl of the trail seems like electric would work.
