- Are you looking for ideas to create KPI visuals that measure against a target or the part of a whole, and don’t fancy using the dreaded gauge chart?
Do you want to add in some dynamic measures to provide insightful context?
And do you also want to apply colour formatting and some visual flourishes to set it off?
Is the answer is yes, yes, yes, then you have the right video.
I am going to show you how to do all three and show a few lesser known work arounds or hacks in the process to enable you to create the below options, and maybe spark your own creative process.
The data model file is linked below if you want to follow along, and the medium link below shows the walkthrough steps and calculations.

Thanks, welcome 🙏
Excellent job. I rarely find videos this helpful
Thanks, glad it was helpful - gives incentive to make more if it is something people are looking for.
Fantastic work. Learned so much from the hack. Your explanation and simplicity of writing the DAX measures really made me understand a lot. Kudos. Looking forward to learning more from you. Would be applying this on a live project in the coming days.
Thank you 👍
its perfect video for beginners! i wached it maybe 100 times)) and will watch again and again for better understanding. Thank you so much. its beautiful, very smart and very intresting! wanna more ))))
Love it! Thanks
I love these process style videos. Great content as usual!! Thank you
Thanks. I know these are a little longer than most other types of videos, but I think it's useful to show start to finish.
If there is an appetite for them, I will keep making them.
Yes, yes, we have appetite for them 😊😂thank you
Great Work!!! I love how creative your ideas are.
Thanks, working on some more...
Underrated Gem 💎
Thanks, appreciate it 👍
Very well explained. Thanks
Thank you Jaidev, appreciate the feedback
Lots of goodies in this video (and in the PBIX if you hate creating datetables) 👍
Yes, I decided to use a single dataset for a series of videos. Makes it easier for people to follow along if they wish to.
superb charts! Thank you!
Glad you like them!
Great content! Liked and subscribed 👍🏻
Thank you, appreciate the support. Glad you liked it
Very creative and helpful, thank you for sharing.
Thanks, my pleasure
Thank you for sharing this very informative video.
You are very welcome
Killer stuff as always. thankyou
Cheers 👍
What's the significance of adding an underscore before your measures table?
I see it sometimes with DAX functions also, that people will use an underscore beforehand as some sort of convention.
Youre a bro for dropping this sort of quality content, thanks a lot
It means it will come at the top of the pane, as it will ignore alphabetical order.
You could use numbers instead, I see some people number their key measures.
Love your content
Thank you Tina, appreciate it 🙌
Cool stuff. Im new at pbi but Im gonna give it a try
Nice, if there are things you would like me to explore in future videos, let me know.
it is better than most of payed courses, kinda cheated using between as data but feels better on my workplace
@@JoséAlmeida-v1g thank you for the feedback, glad it helped
Well done! Is there no way to use a Switch statement for the KPI band scores rather than creating four separate measures?
Yes, you could use switch instead of the if statement, but you still need multiple measures as you need to be able to assign one colour per measure manually in the format pane.
If conditional formatting was allowed for the colour, I would use one switch statement.
If you see my other videos on colour formatting, that is what I use.
Thanks 👍
@@dganalysis Thanks!
How to make the cards not go behind the graphic and always stay on top of the visual element that we want to put behind them?
If I understand correctly, using the selection pane to arrange the order of the layers on visuals
May I know the color scheme for your pbi?
There is a link to download the file. You should see the colour scheme in there.
My pie chart interactions are not functioning as expected. When the target revenue is > then the max revenue my pie chart displays correctly when using KPI % and 1 - KPI data points for chart. If target revenue is < then the max revenue the chart displays the KPI as the % of target instead of % of max. Also the 4 color bands all show as 100% in the pie chart. My table functions fine but the pie chart is not cooperating. Not sure is anyone else encountered this.
Not sure if there is a way to screen shot your viz and send? I assume the calculations have been added in the correct order on the donut charts?
excellent May Allah Bless you Ameen.
Thank you
the eyes though!
Amazing & very useful content as always. More of this, Senpai!
My eyes? 😅
Am I the only one who is facing issues with audio?
Accent or volume?
@@dganalysis Volume is too low and not able to follow
Ok, sorry about that, the volume is ok on my computer
@@dganalysis Oh fine. tq
@@dganalysis Volume is really low inspite of keeping the settings at the highest level.
crazy guy...fantastic!
