I would like to point out that we tend to fall in love with the first version of a song that we like. I love this song and this one is my jam :) I have heard the Montreal performance, but this is still my favorite :) My favorite performance of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" is Jeff Buckley cover :) It is a masterpiece of the deep aching that happens sometimes when you are in love. The same can be said of the Honeydrippers cover of "Sea of Love" originally by Phil Phillips :)
You will not regret hearing this song, Somebody to Love live at Montreal- they do it a bit different and it is an absolutely epic performance that you will glad you don't miss. Also Dragon Attack from the same concert, Montreal 81
The fact that you noticed Roger's (the blond, who's the drummer) high note in there made me happy, haha. You should check out the 1974 Live at the Rainbow Performance of "Lap of the Gods" and the studio version of "My Fairy King" for more of those notes you 'never heard' courtesy of Mr. Taylor. Also, ugh. Freddie (the lead vocalist) is just the ultimate. I miss him so much. In fact, I miss the original Queen line-up (even though Roger and Brian are still out there rocking it).
@@noelborden8787 That vocal range of Roger is incorrect, he never sang that low, that is vocal fry it is not counted towards your vocal range, because everyone can do vocal fry. I’m glad you noticed Brian Mays’ guitar. There aren’t a lot of guitarists who can make their guitars speak. He’s one of the greats. Another great one is Gary Clark Jr.-if you like blues you’ve probably heard him but if not, you really have to. One thing with Queen-pretty much every song is different. Check out Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Freddie Mercury had a six-octave vocal range. He’s remembered as one of the greatest rock front men ever. In fact there’s a story about how a fan asked him if he played any instruments besides piano, and he said, “the audience, darling.” So true.
I also love watching him sing "love of my life" because he has the audience eating out of his hands. He raises his hands and they sing to him and do whatever he wants. You can feel and see the love for them and you can see the love for their fans.
This song is epic and I love your reactions! The high note from the blonde is their drummer Roger Taylor. He would joke about his dog whistle voice. I know it might sound like you will be listening to the same song but trust me and all the other Queen fans, you need to listen to Somebody to Love live from Montreal 1981. It will knock your socks off!
I'm so enjoying how much you truly appreciate Queen!! I love seeing younger people enjoy them like we did when we heard them the first time. Roger Taylor the drummer is the blonde!!! Thank You
would love to see reaction to earlier performances...WHITE QUEEN live at Hammersmith, IN THE LAP OF THE GODS live at the Rainbow and STONE COLD CRAZY live
I loved your reaction. Roger Taylor, the drummer was the one who made the high notes, but 3 of the 4 members sang very well. In fact on some albums they sang their own songs. The harmony of their voices makes queen a unique group. I hope you continue exploring more of this great band
Your comment about the guitar "talking" is a great observation. Brian May (guitarist) has often said that he wanted his guitar to be an extension of Freddie's voice. He succeeded magnificently.
👏👏👏 Great reaction, you really heard those beautiful and famous Queen harmonies. You definitely have to check out the Montreal 81 version to see how great they were live. Freddie Mercury (the lead singer) who wrote this song was a passionate guy, full of emotions and he was able to make you believe, that he needed somebody to love.
"This is different!" = Queen in a nutshell.😃 NOW, you should absolutely check out a LIVE version of this song! The BEST versions: Montreal in 1981 Milton Keynes Bowl in 1982
Brian May’s guitar is always melodic. The backstory on his guitar, referred to as The Red Special, is a legend in of itself. Freddie could sing anything. Live of this song is a must.
Look forward to it. Secretly hope it’s the live Montreal version. I promise, if it’s not, you’ll have many comments referring to that version. 😅😂. Either way - beautiful song that I believe he wrote as a nod to his love of Aretha Franklin. 😍
That lead singer Freddie had a design degree, re-invented himself, with no formal singing training but the passion to excel and create music...the guitarist Brian crafted his own guitar with his father and went on to become an astrophysicsist; the bassist John was an electrician that invented a unique amp and Roger had a degree in biology, preferred to tune his drums and supported Freddie on vocals with those high notes. Queen brought 4 different talents together, each a stellar musician and songwriter which is why together their sound is so unique and encompasses so many styles and genres.
This is Freddie's gospel tribute to Aretha Franklin who he really admired. He always wanted to sing with her but they never managed to get it together. I am guessing that the two of them are wailing out in heaven having a great time. Thank you for a great reaction to this fantastic song. Brian May often says that his guitar is his voice and we all know that he is a master at getting his feelings out through it. Brian and his father built that guitar from junk they had laying around the house when Brian was a teen (He will be 75 next month) and he still uses it almost exclusively. She is sometimes referred to as "The Fireplace" since much of her was made from an old piece of a 100 year old fireplace, and sometimes referred to as "The Old Lady" because Brian is sort of married to that guitar after all these years. Mostly the guitar is known by the music world as "The Red Special" which is the name he and his dad gave to her. His dad wanted it to be "The Brian May Special" but they compromised on "The Red Special" So I agree, that guitar can definitely sing to us. Roger's falsetto is iconic. Those high notes give me goosebumps. I will always ask for Queen: "White Queen" live at Odeon, Hammersmith. The band shines so brightly in that song, it is my favorite live performance ever, by any band.
I love your reaction, you commented on how Brian played the guitar, if you want to hear how Brian plays the guitar and makes it "talk to Freddie's piano", you should react to White Queen at Odeon in Hammersmith 1975, you won't regret it!!!
QUEEN QUEEN QUEEN!!! You have been introduced to one of the old GOAT Bands that are in a category of their own! They literally created so many wonderful songs that it is hard to pick a favorite once you really dig around in their rabbit hole!! May I suggest Another One Bites the Dust? 💜💜
The beauty of queen is that they had four great musicians who wrote and performed perfectly together . Each one wrote at least one number one hits not even the Beatles did that. Freddie is the goat
What a treat seeing young people today discovering the greatness of Queen. It really does draw you in. Into a wonderful musical 'experience.' Can you imagine the stadium sound in concert! And feel the size of that crowd all together with you. I've never seen this video that you're reacting to before. I'm surprised.... I enjoy seeing the studio production and seeing how all of them gave so much to their songs. No backup singers, they sing all the parts together. Oh the old folks said Rock n Roll would never last .... now it has survived and it is truly classic for all time.
This was a great performance but if you listen to the live version in Montreal you'll be amazed how great they all sound. I would like to see your reaction to that.
They got this great sound because Freddy Bryan and Roger all sang, and they all sang all parts so every time you hear it, you hear three people seen each of the cords each part of the cord all three of them are doing it
Brian’s got this unique guitar sound because John Deacon made the amp for him and Brian made his own guitar so altogether no one has a sound like Brian may
In the 70s and 80s we couldn’t wait for the next Queen album to come out! We knew it would be different, but great! Glad your loving the music of my youth!
Hey Greg!! Thanks again for another great Queen reaction... yes, God blessed this world when He created Freddie and then introduced him to the other musical geniuses in the band... it is nothing short of a miracle that these 4 men met and blessed the world with such beautiful music and for so long... most bands have ego problems and split after 4-5 years. These guys cranked out masterpieces for over 20 years and half of them for over 50 years... Check out "My Fairy King" or "Killer Queen" for some early tunes or for more masterpieces like "Bo-Rhap" check out "The Prophet's Song" or "Innuendo", both awesome pieces... then again, ALL Queen songs are awesome... they are GOAT and will live Forever! Blessings and take care, we love ya!!
Queen is a British rock group formed in 1970 consisted of: Freddie Mercury - Lead vocalist and piano Brian May - Lead guitarist and vocals Roger Taylor - Drummer and vocals John Deacon - Bass guitarist Very early, Brian, Roger, and Freddie realized their voices blended together uniquely. Brian, with his soft, mellow voice took the low range, Roger with his high "dog-whistle" voice took the high range, and Freddie with his crisp, clear voice took the mid-range. Their blended voices along with Freddie's awesome lead vocals and Brian's amazing guitar skills created what is known as the Queen sound.
It's called 'The Queen sound' !! - and they had no auto-tune or any other stuff to help them - and never have - they can simply sing that well and in harmony. Have you listened to Bohemian Rhapsody - that is a masterpiece that. shows what it is all about. He makes the guitar sing - or sound like a whole orchestra - he built it himself with his father - and the bassist John - who is an electrics engineer has built an amp. that can help Brian- The guitar even has a name "The Red Special".
This is the first time that I've heard this version. OMG!!! I think I like it as well, if not better, than the live Montreal version, which I've heard a thousand times. This was awesome!!!!👏👏👏💕💕🎶🎼🎵
When you paused it to talk about 'that unique sound' - Freddie has the ability to change his voice mid-word from smooth to an added growl. It is VERY unique indeed! :)
4:19 - this guitar solo is the best example of Brian May's guitar style. His solos tend to sing along with the main melody of the song, and kinda tell a story. His solos always have a sense of beginning, middle and end. This guy's amazing. Not only one of the greatest guitar players ever, this guy is an Astronomer. Has a PhD in Astrophysics and all that. He even gets involved in NASA stuff now and then.
Welcome to the QUEENDOM!! Hope you jump head first into the Queen 🫅🏻 rabbit 🐇 hole 🕳 …. An amazing amazing band of musicians & songwriters! In fact, all members of Queen are in the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock n Roll Hall of Fame!! Yes, SOMEBODY TO LOVE & DRAGON ATTACK live in Montreal 1981. You’ll love it! ❤️
"That guitar was sayin' words..." I always say that Freddie sings the first two verses and then Brian and Guitar sing the third verse. They do this alot. Great review!
Brian's guitar gets a verse in most songs. It does sing! Please do the live version of this song from 1981 in Montreal. I would love to know which one you like better.
Greg said they have a unique sound. Reminded me of hearing them for the first time. Their first album was not available in Canada yet, so I ordered a copy from England. I had never heard anything like them ... the song Liar blew me away, but the whole album was incredible. I knew then they would go on to greatness. Unique ... yes ... there was only one Queen.
Their harmonies are Amazing! PEOPLE often didnt believe they did them themselves, but they did. They would practice them over and over and over.. even when it sounds like 5p of them , it's just them laying over their own track, and again over their own track...etc.
Now you need to react to the live version of Somebody to Love in Montreal 1981. Roger Taylor the drummer has an incredible voice and you’ll hear it in the live version.
when he said that Guitare sounded like its talking for itself i LOLOLLLLED because i was feeling that too and COULDN'T have expressed it Better 😂 love your reactions and subbed too 😍
I’m so glad to hear you say that Brian makes that guitar sound like it’s actually singing the words! I think that every time I listen to him play anything!
The only other band from back then I can think of that also has that unique unmistakable sound of their own is Def Leppard! My all time FAVORITE band with an amazing story of tragedies & comeback & STILL performing today 🥰
No doubt this is an awesome song. However, you really need to check out the live version, 1981 in Montreal!! Freddie and the guys absolutely kill it in that performance!! Great reaction! You also need to react to "In My Defense", "Who Wants To Live Forever" (both the live version and the official video) "The Show Must Go On", "Time" and of course the entire Live Aid Concert! There are so many great hits, I couldn't list them all!
Yes! Queen has a very unique sound! This happens when four of the greatest musicians get together and form the most pure talent bands in the world! Please give a listen to 1975 version of "White Queen " a night at the Odeon, Hammersmith, you will not regret it, promise! Brian's guitar sings to Freddy's piano in this and it's hauntingly beautiful!
You’ve started down a wonderful road, roger Taylor is the drummer doing the high notes, but you knew that by the time wrote this. Enjoy the adventure of Queen music. I’ve been listening & being inspired by them since 1979 & I still get chills.
You're right about the two tones you're hearing in Freddie's voice. Freddie had the ability to use the other set of vocal cords, we all have two sets of vocal cords, but nearly all people are unable to use them because they're dormant, they make no sound, Freddie could, that's why you hear two tones at the same time. Tuvan throat singers with lots of training can do it, but with Freddie it's just natural, God made him with that ability. In other words God built Freddie to sing, and what a great voice. Great reaction.
If you think this performance was good you need to check out the LIVE version in Montreal 1981, it will simply blow your mind !!! RIP Freddie Mercury, my hero xxx
Absolutely one of the best bands ever, Queens lead guitarist hand made his legendary electric guitar with his father from an old Wooden fireplace, all the members of Queen have written No1 hits and the have sold over 300 million albums worldwide, their flamboyant legendary live performances are amazing, Freddie Mercury the lead vocalist always played to the crowds and had them in the palm of his hand, his crowd control was amazing, also Freddie Mercury is considered one of the best vocalist ever to front a band, I attended many Queen live concerts and they were all amazing talented musicians, Freddie Mercury had a Degree in graphic art and design, Brian May PhD in astrophysics, John Deacon a degree in Electronics, and Roger Taylor a bachelor . degree in biology, all we’ll educated and amazing musicians, Michael Jackson was a Big Queen fan and would often attend a live Queen concert, Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson collaborated with a couple of songs together the duets are amazing, Freddie Mercury ended the studio collaboration asked why , Freddie said I can’t work with Jackson anymore he keeps bringing that pet lama into the studio when we are recording, great reaction thanks 🙏
You must see the Montreal live version it’s fabulous… great reactions your a lot better than others just looking for clicks or likes you seem genuine 😊😊
Today Freddie is still regarded as the best voice because of the range he had the amount of octaves he could hit. He didn't want to get his extra wisdom teeth out as he thought it would change his voice. Yes he was born with extra wisdom teeth than normal. 😚 There is a video on you tube explaining how extraordinary his voice was.
Queen's sound and style are unique to them alone. There's never been anyone like them, will never be anyone else like them or the supremely talented Freddie Mercury.
Scientists from 3 countries studied Freddie's voice they found unique abilities Freddie had, that two tones you hear is because Freddie used two sets of vocal cords, most all people can't use the extra vocal cord called ventricular folds, but Freddie could, so when he was singing you can hear two tones. Freddie also had a very fast paced vibrato registered at 7.4 HZ faster than the best Opera singer. There are videos about it and the study papers from scientists online..
And that was the 70’s! We had so much musical richness and variety from Motown to Heavy Metal!

This song is Freddie’s tribute to Aretha Franklin and her gospel roots. He was a big fan of hers.
Whilst the gospel sound was influenced by Aretha, the song is about a gay man's struggle to find love in a predominantly homophobic world
The song was written by John Deacon about his search for the love of his wife.
No, it was written by Freddie. John wrote You’re My Best Friend for his wife.

The only other band from back then I can think of that also has that unique unmistakable sound of their own is Def Leppard! My all time FAVORITE band with an amazing story of tragedies & comeback & STILL performing today 🥰
This is my one of my favorites. I prefer this over the live version.
I love the Montreal version but I always prefer this version.
When they perform live .. they're game steps up .. try 81 Montreal
You understand Queen on first hearing. Nice. Unique sound and top performance. Bravo
Been reading the comments. MORE than just a hint. Go right to it next. Live in MONTREAL 1981
Their voices together were magical❤❤
Do more Queen, and do LIVE performances. You will be amazed!!
I love watching younger generations discover Queen ❤️
You hit the nail on the head, they were a very tight unit! They definitely knew what each other was doing at all times
I love you saying they have a sound you can’t explain. Exactly!
Your joy and appreciation just gives me a bright smile! Thanks for that and let the love shine in 😉🤩
"IMPROMPTU " from the Wembley concert 1986 will be eye- opening to Freddie's vocal range and unique vocals. It is well worth watching.
Queen had great harmonies. The lead vocalist, Freddy Mercury had an incredible vocal range and is considered the best rock lead vocalist ever.
You just got a thumbs up for appreciating Brian's solo! 😺😸
Queen is Freddie Mercury-piano/vocals, Brian May-guitar/vocals, Roger Taylor-drums/vocals, John Deacon-bass/some back vocals
Great reaction.
the live version of this from Montreal in '81 is something to behold....you gotta see it.
QUEEN!!.no words!
one of my favorite. Freddy didn't have formal training.
I love that you said that about Brian’s guitar! I always said his guitar solos are the 5th voice in the group!
Greatest Rock Band ever. Each member contributed songs an d no 1 hits, the only band to have achieved that.
Those high notes come from “deep” in his soul. That’s why they sound deep
Gracias por tu reacción 👌
Bienvenido al mundo de 👑💫🌠✨
Queen's sound and style are unique to them alone. There's never been anyone like them, will never be anyone else like them or the supremely talented Freddie Mercury.
You got to react to the live version Montreal 86 live HD somebody to love and save me at the same concert what Legends
Another One Bites the Dust is my recommendation for another Queen song.
Classic right here. Queen is one of a kind 🤘🏻
