Freddie wrote this as a tribute to Aretha Franklin...he had hoped that one day she would sing it...has a total gospel feel to it..when Queen went to New York, Freddie said that people thought they were a black band...🤩
Yeah.. that's the one I sent a link for. Maybe there was a mixup. I've also watched the '81 version an unhealthy amount of times lol! It's my favorite live performance ever :) Hopefully they can also squeeze in my original request sometime soon.
Frddie blowing it away...as he does everytime. Not enough credit goes to the background vocal harmonies. They are killing it. Edit: 10 seconds after I commented just...you guys mention them.
Freddie mentioned in an interview: „For Somebody To Love, we had the same 3 people singing on the big choir section, but I think it had a different kind of technical approach because it was a gospel way of singing - which was different to us. That track was me going a bit mad. I just wanted to write something in the Aretha Franklin kind of mode. I was inspired by the gospel approach she had on her earlier albums. Although it might sound like the same approach on the harmonies, it is very different in the studio because it’s a different range.”
Plus, that's only three people singing on the song:Freddie, Roger Taylor and Brian May. They stacked vocal track on top of vocal track on top of vocal track to make it seem as if a choir were singing. That was Freddie's idea. Clever.
Saw Queen in September 1980 on "The Game" tour (yes, I'm old.) It wasn't a huge venue, something like 16,000 people, but of course one of my favorite concerts. Nobody could work a crowd like Freddie Mercury. It didn't matter where you were in the arena. He'd still make you feel like part of the show. 👍🔥😬
Yesss Queen!!! 🔥 please more more more. I suggest their live stuff, may I request some 70’s Stone Cold Crazy live at the Rainbow or some 80’s Who wants to live forever live at Wembley. Much bless and keep up the good work
saw an article on yahoo a couple of days ago " is old music killing new music" its was about songs are downloaded and what's played on the various online sites older music far outweighs newer music the problem is that new music just sucks -- there are no mega bands, no super groups -- a lot of new music is autotuned
MY FAV QUEEN SONG! 💟 That’s why I’m here! Freddie wrote this song inspired by Aretha Franklin! Please do the live version in Montreal 1981 & FAT BOTTOMED GIRLS live in Milton Keynes 1982. Yes Adam Lambert sang Bohemian Rhapsody for his American Idol audition!! It was fortuitous!! Great reaction guys!! 🙋♀️
For some odd reason, every time I watch this performance, I feel like I’ve been to church. Or rather, what many people must feel after attending a particularly inspiring church service.
It would be amazing if you reacted to No One But You (Only the Good Die Young) by Queen, it's the last time Brian, John and Roger played together in the studio if I'm not mistaken, it's a tribute song for Freddie
First concert I ever went to was to see Queen at Madison Square Garden. It was also the last time they toured America, so I treasure the memories, even if the seats were far back. They’ve been my favorite band ever since.
How I miss Freddie. 🥺Btw, Adam Lambert came in second when he was on American Idol. I believe before he went on that show he was performing in the musical Rent.
There used to be a shop right next to our theater and they would give us belt buckles. I happened to get a Queen and a Kiss and some would ask if you were interested in antimony. Cool pictures of broken bones from x-rays. They were printing popular music on them and sending them to the Soviet Union.
As much as I love this video/studio performance, it pales into insignificance when compared with the live versions, especially Montreal! Please listen to that version. Freddie is the G.O.A.T ❤️🇬🇧
Funny you mentioned the Darkness. Did you know Roger Taylor's son Rufus Tiger Taylor is the drummer!! So highly influenced by his dad's and Queens sound I suspect. Rufus also played drums alongside his dad on tour with Queen + Adam Lambert.
if u have not done it watch the live verison of this song! and these other Queen videos i want it all, i want to break free, another bites the dust, under pressure with David Bowie the official video and live verison, Boeheim rhapsody, princes of the universe, flash from the movie flash gordon, radio gaga, the show must go on!
Merci pour cette vidéo. Savez-vous qu'en France la voix de Freddie, notamment dans cette chanson, est étudiée dans les cours de chant baroque et de musique ancienne ??
Thanks guys -- I think...I find it a bit difficult to get a real "read" on your opinions...I'm sure I'm older than you all -- was a "fan" (if I must use the term) age 15 in HS -- saw the band a few times and was privileged to meet them briefly -- every one was funny and kind to a couple of awkward teens.. AND the show was amazing -- gotta say, I was also a bit intrigued by Phil Lynott --- Thin Lizzy was the opening band...
Queens live performances are usually better than Studio but perhaps the studio version of Who wants to live forever and made in heaven for good official video
You should check out Marc Martel, specifically his covers of Somebody to Love and Bohemian Rhapsody. He did the vocals for the Bohemian Rhapsody movie and crushes it. He's not Freddie but he is the next closest thing.
Freddie wrote this as a tribute to Aretha Franklin...he had hoped that one day she would sing it...has a total gospel feel to it..when Queen went to New York, Freddie said that people thought they were a black band...🤩
You should do the Montreal 1981 Live version of this... It's incredible!
Definitely!! They robbed themselves of this one 😭
Yeah. It’s prob the best music performance I’ve ever seen. Seriously it’s that good.
Couldn't agree more
The current drummer for the Darkness is Rufus Taylor, son of queen drummer Roger taylor
Sometimes the right people meet at the right time and something extraordinary happens. Queen.
Great comment!!!!
Aww..Well said my dear...love it!
I love Queen, this is one of Freddie ´s favorite song , more, please, thank you
Love. Should do the 1981 Montreal live, blokes! 😍 it’s an amazing performance.
I was hoping they had when I saw the title
@@jameshdog5759 same. It’s unhealthy how many times I’ve watched that performance. You could double that number and I’ll still want more. 😅

No
Lindos maravilhosos ❤️ talentos sem igual. Saudoso é amado Freddie Mercury. Queen únicos!!! Inigualável.....
Freddie Roger and Brian had very different voices but worked so well together harmonising
The live '81 Montreal performance of this is what you should have watched.
The Best of the Best! How lucky were we to grow up with Queen! Going to a concert in the 70’s and enjoying every minute. No phones just pure bliss

THANK YOU for that quote, I hadn't seen it before... I always love learning more about Freddie's musical approach. (He's a genius.)

Queen had many hidden gems....WHITE QUEEN, COOL CAT, so many

That concert footage was from a free show w/120,000+ fans.
Gotta check it out live. A more rock vibe, but so, so amazing.
Hyde Park 1976
You would love this song LIVE even more … so powerful 🔥 Queen always better LIVE Thanks for your reaction 😄
1976 > album: A Day At The Races. Please please please listen to the live version of this - 1981/Montreal. The showmanship is unparalleled!!!!

Love this song. Iconic
Should do the live version of this song, Montreal 1981.
Saw a video from a Foo Fighters concert and their drummer, Taylor Hawkins, sang this song(or maybe another Queen song). He absolutely killed it!!
Yes! They are huge Queen fans!
Just came here to say...Montreal live 1981!!!
🔥🔥
You guys should react to the Live performance of Somebody to Love in Montreal, 1981.
First concert I ever went to was to see Queen at Madison Square Garden. It was also the last time they toured America, so I treasure the memories, even if the seats were far back. They’ve been my favorite band ever since.
Office Blokes and Queen: two of Britain's greatest treasures.
I was lucky and saw Queen live in San Diego 1976 and 1977.🇺🇸😉⚓️
When I found out Brian May was also an astrophysicist, I was blown away.
Beautiful sing, even better live, check out live at Montreal, outstanding live performance by the while band.
Effortless brilliance!!
R.I.P FREDDIE MERCURY. MY FAVORITE SONG WAS "PRESSURE". EVEN WHEN HE CAME OUT PUBLICLY THAT HE WAS BISEXUAL HE WAS STILL VERY LOVED! ❤🙏
How I miss Freddie. 🥺Btw, Adam Lambert came in second when he was on American Idol. I believe before he went on that show he was performing in the musical Rent.

Montreal 1981 Somebody to Love will blow you away.
Adam is a very good singer but... NO ONE replace FREDDIE!!!!
Exactly.
1980s live performance, really so cool.
1981-1985
As much as I love this video/studio performance, it pales into insignificance when compared with the live versions, especially Montreal! Please listen to that version. Freddie is the G.O.A.T ❤️🇬🇧
Great reaction. Hoping for more Queen 🤍
This recording is better than live. Queen is record. Freddie show on stage.
Funny you mentioned the Darkness. Did you know Roger Taylor's son Rufus Tiger Taylor is the drummer!! So highly influenced by his dad's and Queens sound I suspect. Rufus also played drums alongside his dad on tour with Queen + Adam Lambert.
Instant goosebumps.
Queen GOAT
Howard Stern absolutely kills it in the guitar.
Live performance 1981 Montreal absolutely blows the studio version out of the water
Have you seen/heard Queen + Adam Lambert perform Who Wants to Live Forever at Isle of Wight? It will give you chills.
Excelente, como todo lo de Queen 👑🌠💫🌠

Freddies off their 76 album day at the races
Montreal 81 ... enough said 👌
check out Marc Martel. He sang some o the songs in the Queen movie, sounds so much like Freddie
You Guys should react to Michael Jackson and Freddi Mucery "There must be more than love than this" Duet with each other
and to think there's somone who thought that 3 old englishmen wouldn't know the super famous BRITISH BAND
Montreal version is awesome. Should check it out.
It’ll be great to get a reaction to The Band/The Staples- The Weight (The Last Waltz) an amazing collaboration.
Merci pour cette vidéo.
Savez-vous qu'en France la voix de Freddie, notamment dans cette chanson, est étudiée dans les cours de chant baroque et de musique ancienne ??
Freddie❤❤❤
Should do live performances please
Has anybody noticed that singers rarely have backup singers these days?
Live Wimberly was even better I think, thanks request Back Chat!!😀😀😍😍 Freddyie loves his audience

Brian still has the same hair except it is white now.
Can you guys react to like funk music from the 1970s?
You should check out Marc Martel, specifically his covers of Somebody to Love and Bohemian Rhapsody. He did the vocals for the Bohemian Rhapsody movie and crushes it. He's not Freddie but he is the next closest thing.
Need to review the live performance in Montreal...far more impressive!
I like Mark Martel so much better than Adam. Mark Martell sounds so much like Freddie and Queen chose him for the Tribute band.
They were college professors….
Brian Justin Crumb would actually be a better replacement than Adam Lambert
Yes, this is great, but 90% of the time Queen is better live. See Montreal as mentioned below and compare.
