Having to change my flight to Tokyo last minute and this included everything I wanted to know about the airplane haha. I can't tell you how helpful this is, thank you!
Well if you have seen recently the videos of turbulence were people have been injured not wearing a belt you may see the sense, you should always wear the belt.
@@Golo1949 yes BUT, the seatbelt sign when on means it's COMPULSORY to SIT DOWN and RETURN to your SEAT when illuminated. And it turns off when it's SAFE to get up and use the toilet or stretch your legs. So OBVIOUSLY when you're seated you keep your belt on but it's NOT COMPULSORY BY LAW. So if they KEEP THE LIGHT ON all the time, how can you tell when it's SAFE to use the LOO and COMPULSORY to STAY SEATED. IT SHOULD NOT BE ILLUMINATED outside of COMPULSORY TIMES eg Take off/LANDING and during turbulence. How do you know when it's COMPULSORY and YOU HAVE TO RETURN TO YOUR SEAT??
I greatly enjoyed my time in Shanghai during a group trip back in 2018. We didn't go through Pudong Airport (used Hongqiao between Beijing and Shanghai). Hopefully, we get to go back in the near future before our visa expires!
Hi, thank you very much for the trip report. i will be taking china eastern airlines this december from singapore to paris via shanghai. this will be my third flight with them, the previous trips being to osaka and tokyo (before COVID19). i will say the airline amenities is not the best. during the flight from shanghai to osaka the seat tray was broken on one side so it was wobbly; another flight from shanghai to tokyo the IFE itself was not working so i managed to change seat. the food was good though especially since i am chinese haha.
Excellent report, just booked ticket with them from HK to UK as they were the cheapest. I will make sure to bring snacks and download movies, it's going to a long and boring flight lol. Did the crew not clean the toilet? Was it an empty flight? Hoping the seat next to me stays empty lol
Thank you very much! They are often the cheapest indeed, hope you had/will have a good flight! The crew did perform some cleaning in the toilets, but it somehow became very dirty again in no time. This flight was about 95% full in economy class and I was lucky to have the middle seat free :)
Thank you! I'll fly with them again for sure, but only if they are significantly cheaper than the competitors ;) Edit: I replied to the wrong person, on the wrong video haha :') Now everything is fixed
I have booked with them London to Bangkok in May. Looking forward to the flight and going via China. I will let you know about the flights are. Thanks John.
Hiya Thanks for the reply. I normally fly with Emirates or Qatar. But their costs are getting out of hand. Seen the cost with China Eastern read several reviews like yours and thought let's give it a try plus going to china as well is something different. Thanks John
Hi. Update I recently just flew with them a few weeks ago. Mid May 24 Gatwick to Bangkok All went well. Check in.. simple and fairly quick and courteous. Flight was good no problems seats comfortable. Food I enjoyed with a few beers. Staff onboard very good.Transit easy and simple. I would fly again at the correct price.
8:16, It happens to me last June when I was flying China Eastern airlines from Ho Chi Minh to Shanghai Pudong for 4 hour flight and I realize seatbelt sign was on all the time from takeoff to landing and it's weird. But some passengers, including me use the lavatory mid flight, even though there is no turbulence, which is weird.
That's the norm when flying with China Eastern apparently... When there was turbulence, people would be sent back to their seats and asked to fasten the seatbelt by the crew. After a while without turbulence, you could just unfasten them and walk around the cabin without any issues. But yeah just turn off the fasten seatbelt sign when there is no danger, so we can go to the toilet in peace haha
I actually didn't use their app. I managed to select my seat on their very slow website and I didn't bother to check in online with them as it doesn't work most of the time
Nice video! Have you ever flown China Southern? I'm planning to fly to Seoul too and am debating China Southern vs Korean/Asiana who cost almost twice as much.
Thank you! Yes I did, but it was back in 2013. China Southern was just like China Eastern back then, pretty okay. Don't expect delicious food, but you'll be well fed quantity wise on a longhaul flight. If you can afford it, go for Korean/Asiana, but if you want to save some money China Southern should be acceptable if you come prepared. Hope this info helps you out, wish you happy travels!
They weren't strict at all, but almost all passengers were allowed to take 2x 23kg per person which is a lot for the average traveller. I usually don't rate flights, but I would say that China Eastern is a good choice if the ticket price is significantly cheaper than the competitors.
I’m so nervous, this will be my first time flying China Eastern and I have a 16 hour delay before my next flight. I’m getting mixed answers on if there is an airport inside the airport as my passport doesn’t allow me to transit. Your response would be most appreciated. Subscribed with thanks 🙏🏻
No need to be nervous, 16 hours is a lot of time so prepare some entertainment for yourself. I think you mean an airside hotel? Can't remember there was one, but maybe you can ask for help at the China Eastern transfer desk. They might be able to arrange something for you. Nevertheless, have a great trip!
@@aviadler. Most countries can indeed enter China on a temporary visa. China Eastern also has a list of nearby hotels where you can stay with a discount. You can book in advance or arrange everything on the spot at the transfer desk ;)
May i know which terminal you arrived in shanghai to go to your next destination to amsterdam ? And what are the procedure ? Because i have booked a tiket manila to amsterdam , which is i find confused if its the same way as the normal procedure ?
You can connect to the wifi after registrating at one of the machines dotted around the airport terminal. You need your passport for that to get the login details. Also remember that most apps and sites are blocked, so come prepared with a VPN ;)
hey so im travelling alone as a 12 year old without unoccupied minor service to shanghai in a few days, do you think its legal or do i have to get a unoccupied minor service?
China Eastern has a page with info dedicated to unoccupied minors travelling. You are accepted as passenger, but I can't find any info on if unoccupied minor service is mandatory. If it doesn't state it, I guess you are fine? Anyways, have a safe journey and enjoy the flight!

Thanks so much for the vid! I’m trying to find reviews online but I couldn’t find much. Your vid is helpful:)
Thank you so much!
Thank you for the informative video. It greatly helps inform my decision making whether to fly with CE and I think I will.
Nice video! I recently flowed to Shanghai with China eastern and the seatbelt side was stayed on for the whole flight
Thank you! Haha yeah the seatbelt sign staying on for the whole flight is either a Chinese thing or a China Eastern thing :'D

Great Trip Report.I Like Better MY Figths Whith China Airlines.Amsterdam-Taipei

There are lots of seats in the terminal, but no lounge or recliner seats. So you should still be able to settle in comfortably
Does a VPN bypass the issues ?
Yes it will most likely, but you have to set up everything before you arrive in China ;)

I trust China Eastern Airline, but not Xiamen Airline.
