    I've never actually *built* a speaker driver of any kind before, but that is freaking AWESOME that you can even do that! DAMN!... I wish I knew how and had the money, time and parts to do it too!... I am an audiophile myself, who designs and builds custom speakers, (mostly for home, but...), and sometimes trying to find pre-made drivers that fit the design specs that you would prefer is almost impossible, so being able to actually build the drivers yourself would be absolutely amazing and totally game changing!... I need more info on how to do this AND where you can buy the individual parts needed for it!... That's badass dude!
    BTW, what is that dark colored speaker glue that you're using there called and where can I buy it??... I've always seen that type on speakers/woofers/mids, etc. already installed, but I've never known what it's called or where to buy it... It seems to be really strong/tough, but yet just flexible enough to not crack under extreme cone movement. It would also be *very* nice to have some of that glue on hand for repairs of spiders and surrounds, or whatever else might need to be (re)glued on an older speaker driver, for example; one that needs some improving or repair!... Also, what is that aerosol spray stuff that you put on the glue afterwards? Is that to cure it faster or something? Where can you buy that and what is it called?
    One last technical question... Do those subs have vented poles? Because every speaker driver that I've ever heard that has major excursion like those ones do, seems to be very noisy, (wind noise, etc.), if the pole isn't vented... (and using a *flared* vent opening too!)... probably due to the air "swishing" around the voice coil gap and filtering through the spider... I like myself a CLEAN sounding woofer, not a "farty" sounding one!... Although when playing at such a high SPL as most competitions, the clarity of sound isn't necessarily the first consideration! LOL!

      @Acoustic_Theory 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The frame and paint metallic flakes are made of aluminum, so they are non-magnetic and can be blown out with compressed air or vacuumed out. If he were machining the steel motor components that would be another matter.

    • @JeepAndBass
      @JeepAndBass  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Choosing parts is mainly based on what your going for, spl sub, demo sub, lows. I am no expert on all that. Jeff helped me out on most of it. Some good places to talk to would be PSI audio. They can help get you the parts and specs you need for your application.

      JeepAndBass search it on the interwebs . small company out of Madison Wisconsin. Granted the subs are made in China, but the entry level sub uses triple magnets , double spiders , three inch voice coil and a very solid steel basket ....100.00 bucks. Plus evey thing is nut and bolted together so rebuilding is simple .

    • @f.a3202
      @f.a3202 ปีที่แล้ว

      there's actually 4 coils in 4 layers and they put 2 and 2 in parallel so the impedance could be anywhere from 2+2 to 0.5+0.5. Those ropes are actually wires (i think they're called tinsel leads) they connect the thin not flexible wire of the coil to the push terminals. They're used because of the flexibility they have.

      Main advantage is a greater understanding in your equipment. These are not really kits but a selection of parts paired with Jeff's motor design. They are available if you really wanted the subs but are pretty in limited stock just because its not a large sub company at this point.

    • @JeepAndBass

      8 layer, 3 spiders stacked. I like progressive because I think its a smoother sound. Just my taste

    • @christophermanabat1934
      @christophermanabat1934 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      JeepAndBass ahh ic, I used a half inch spacer. I’m starting to think it was a mistake to space them. I feel like the spider on the opposite side of the flex hit its Xmax before the other side does, losing 10-15mm of possible xmax. I use 400oz motors with a 15” TI basket with 10” double spiders with a half in spacer between the spiders on an 8 layer coil.
