Made me cry. He was my hero, along with Dan Patch and,of course,my Dad. My Dad would buy my horse magazines every month and the Thoroughbred quarterly every three months when it came out.
@@jeanfish7 No, MOW did carry 138 lbs. "In the end, it was weight that sent Man o'War to stud. Big Red won a stake his final season carrying 138 pounds." As a 4 yr old, his owner was told MOW would carry the most weight a 4 yr old ever carried. Just for comparison, in contrast, the top weight Secretariat carried was 126 lbs.
@@janesawyer3495ow, what a bunch of missed points! Troll meant if he carried less weight then he’d run faster (IOW, MOW DID carry lots of weight), Jean meant that he did carry weight and stated the obvious that making up weight was done by adding to the saddlecloth, but that was not the weight for the match race. 120 was MOW weight for match, which was less than Sir Barton. The 138 was for the Potomac, not the match. The thread started by referring to the Kenilworth GC, the match.
Won a race by 100 Lengths. You got to be kidding me .I don't care what the circumstances, of today and then are .100 LENGTHS, Did all the other horses break their legs? That wasn't a race,Man O War was just exercising as Secretariat did in the Bellmont. Those Big Reds, take no prisoners!
According to sports journalist, Joe Palmer, it was closer to 200 lengths, (but of course, officially it was listed as 100; after all, poor Hoodwink was running for second place anyway, it’s only fair).

Man O War, carrying 130+ lbs, he was a god
Beat the triple crown winner by 7 lengths. Just imagine what he could have done if his jockey drank slimfast.
@@single55 actually, Man O war had to carry weights on his saddle to meet the 130lb weight.
