- The college football game between Fresno State and UCLA was an instant classic as the teams exchanged multiple scores in the fourth quarter before Fresno State ultimately pulled off a major upset over thirteenth ranked UCLA 40-37. The Bulldogs were led by QB Jake Haener, who put together a heroic performance in the fourth quarter. UCLA appeared to have the game sealed when they scored to go up 37-33 with 54 seconds left. Despite being in obvious pain, Haener led the game winning drive and threw the game winning touchdown pass with just 14 seconds remaining. Fresno State held off UCLA on the final possession and won an instant classic 40-37.

Definitely. But you want to see something crazy watch a video when Byron leftwich literally was carried by his offensive lineman when he was QB at marshall and finished the game on one leg. Or when Donovan McNabb threw 4 touchdowns in a win on a broken foot for 3 quarters of the game.

@@gvw.10 There's many guys you can gather if we want to look at history...but like TD Petersen said, that was as gutsy a performance as you're gonna see from the QB position on any level. The kid was putting balls on the money all night and when they needed it most, injury or not, he made it happen

This was one of the best QB performances I've ever seen, Jake Haener is an absolute beast. Not only staying in after taking a horrific hit which obviously injured him, but also delivering accurate down field throws plus two TDs in crunch time. That is an NFL level performance if I've ever seen one, what a fantastic player!
He better not have too many more of those, though, or he isn't going to make it to graduation, much less the NFL...
That kid is legit clutching his side in pain after every throw. They are legit NFL qbs who sat out for ingrown toenail. Kid is Legit bad ass and just made a fan.

Craziest game I’ve ever been to. Even as a Bruin fan I can’t help but have an appreciation for just being able to experience this game in person. Hats off to Fresno State. They deserved to win this game. Hope Haener’s able to stay healthy, and hope the Bruins can improve throughout this season.
It has such a shock factor too. Fresno State is one of those colleges that has a good run every 5-10 years that gets them back in the mix and Haener has a chance to take them far. Very great game from Fresno State and put them on the radar for me for the rest of the season.

All the Bruins fans we encountered were pure class acts. Great to go to an historic venue as a fan of a double digit underdog and be treated with respect. I hope the Bruins win out. Like the '94 Colorado Buffs. Lost to FSU; won 11 including the Fiesta Bowl.

I hope everyone realizes this win was years in the making. Fresno State has never shyed away from playing talented teams. While other schools non-conference games are played against D1 AA and D2 teams Fresno is playing against Power 5 opponents. In recent years they've played Oregon, USC, Minnesota, Washington, Alabama, and now UCLA.
The first step for a small school to upset a team like UCLA is to schedule it. And most teams won't because they're scared it'll look bad on their record.
I hope someone makes a deep dive into Fresno States 2016-2021 seasons because from an outsiders prespective it's been amazing to watch.
It doesn't sound like your an outsider. Hahahaha it sounds like your part of the bandwagon guy. Also they get killed every game by some of those teams you mentioned so it's probably better off to not mention a guaranteed loss. Also some of the other teams you mentioned aren't even top tier or top ranked schools some of them barely make a ranking at all which would be 25. Also let's not forget why they are scheduling schools like UCLA it had nothing to do with them thinking they can win or even compete.... It is all about the Benjamin's.... Period... They got paid to go play UCLA just like they get paid to go lose to some of the other teams you mentioned. Without them getting paid to lose to teams like that they probably wouldn't even have a football program and if they did what a difference it would be. It would probably look like a highschool team if they didn't get paid to lose to bigger teams. But let's not pretend that Fresno state is courageous for scheduling a game they need to get paid for to keep their program healthy and alive... I honestly thought the refs were going to mess up the ending of this game but I'm glad Fresno shut the door on the refs and didn't give them a chance to give the game to UCLA... Also when players play hurt it's amazing to see people reaction... I mean think back to rg3 everyone was amazed with his running and everyone wanted to see it. He got hurt mid game and stayed in trying to get a win and we'll he wanted it all for his team. But his coach decided he was going to play him no matter what because rg3 said he could. Then we all know what happened. No more rg3 and everyone blamed the coach for playing an injured player...lol then look at this game haener plays hurt and continues to go back out there and can't even get up on his own and had to be helped up and off the field the possession before the last one. Yet he went back out there and everyone is saying omg he won.... Lol He just took the same stupid risk that rg3s coach took and everyone hates him for because he took away the next possible Micheal Vick. I just think it's funny that as long as he is not permanently injured and can come back and be close to the same we will love the decision but if it's like rg3 then we hate it and the coach that made it.... Lol they are both the same decision to decide to play hurt or play your player hurt.....

They are in the Mountain West conference, so I'm doubting they were paid to lose (but if you can provide a link showing that, I'd be happy to read it). Your rant still doesn't explain how they played Oregon 24-31. Just a little research shows they were 12-2 in 2018 and 10-4 in 2019. Since joining the Mountain West in 2012, they're 62-52 (that includes an atrocious 1-11 year). Hardly a pushover school.

As a Fresno State fan, that game took 3 years off my life. Total game control domination by their off offense first 3 qtrs, then started fumbling and had to answer twice in the 4th. Gutsy.

Haener had a a spectacular game, but Cropper is a stud too. UCLA had absolutely no answer for #5 all night long, and especially on that last drive.
When the Ducks struggled against Fresno I really thought it was mostly just the Ducks sucking it up and was really disappointed... now I realize that Fresno is THAT GOOD! Wow! That QB is amazing and playing injured like that said so much about him!!
I love the Ducks but Fresno State gave us an even closer game in 2002. Every once in a while Fresno takes it to the big boys. I remember them going toe to toe against the stacked USC team in 2005 and barely losing as well in a shootout.

Clemson fan here, and I am so glad that I stayed up late to watch this one! That was one of the gutsiest performances I've seen in a long time. Fresno State looks hot with this kid rolling. anyone else here remember back in the mid 2000's when Fresno beating pac-10 (wasn't 12 at that time) teams was just a normal thing? and a lot of people felt they deserved to be in the conference. they were one of the original giant killers. the rise of boise kinda stole their thunder and they faded for a while, but i hope they're back to being really good every season. i've always liked them.
Well yes but then again people don’t really appreciate that there were good teams in the WAC and MWC, and then you had just god tier teams winning their conference.
To date Utah nor TCU has played tougher schedules at any point than when they played in the MWC.....
2008 BYU played 4 Top 10 teams in a G5 conference..... no wonder they wanted to gtfo out of there.

Suddenly my Ducks’ win against this team looks really good. If Jake Haener gets healthy and plays the rest of the year like he’s played thus far I would argue that he deserves a Heisman nomination. Incredible poise, and the ability to elevate the players around him.
Pac12 officials spotted UCLA 7 points with that TD pass over the top. Ball clearly moved. I thought that was gonna do it for state.

@@phillipadler4313 That's only in the pros. College is a 15 yard penalty unless line of scrimmage inside the 17. Then it goes to the 2. End zone PI does not get the automatic 2 yard line spot like pro.
Philip Adler, No it’s a 15 yard penalty in college. Big difference between 15 yards and 7 points. Pac12, the only conference guaranteed to only use PAC12 Alumni.

I came away impressed with the Bulldogs when they almost beat my Minnesota Gophers in 2019. If not for an absolutely amazing game saving interception by the Gophers 1st Team All-American Antoine Winfield they would have.
But this Bulldog game over UCLA is even more amazing. Congratulations! You’ve earned it!

BTW Jake Haener's mom is,was very, very hot. I remember her as a reporter and anchor at a local eastern Washington TV station 31-32 years ago.

Some of those throws were just incredible. Wow! The MWC has done it again. Going to be a very interesting year once conference play starts. Lots of good teams in the MW. SDSU Boise tough loss tonight but they’ll rebound. USU, keep an eye on Wyoming and Air Force is always tough.
The Bulldogs were playing against the Bruins AND the refs tonight. Haener is a warrior and carries the spirit of all the great Bulldog QB's.
Both PAC-12 games the officiating was awful.

It was on my bucket list to see my Bulldogs play at the Rose Bowl and thank God I did! I'm gonna have chills from this game for a long time!

@@pschighlights Wouldn't count out USC just yet. Jaxson Dart seems to be the answer at QB. Those last three quarters were among the best I have seen since Pete Carroll days. If the Trojans run the table, and somehow beat a top 5 Oregon in the Pac-12 championship game with chaos across the country, who knows. My money is on Oregon, but USC might have found something at QB.
The fact that he fought through what looked to be tremendous pain and still helped lead his team to a W speaks to how tough he is and how much character he has. Mad respect from Clemson fan

Provided Fresno State goes undefeated in their remaining schedule, wins the MWC playoff game, and does well in whatever Bowl game they go to, Haener DESERVES the Heisman! Will he GET it? I doubt it.
Wow what a game Fresno state this year is lookin good. Put up a tough game against Oregon then beating #13 ucla. Fresno st pass offense is like watching 7 on 7 tag football. Great job by the quarterback and even to play after being in pain.
