    I have a similar gas fireplace in my house. The problem is that when we use it, it emits a gas odor (with no gas leak). Should I consider installing a glass cover?

      Thanks for the question! When you say gas odor, do you mean the mercaptan smell in unburnt gas or the combustion smell of burnt gas? If it’s the mercaptan, then that could indicate a leak in the burner assembly that’s allowing some gas to escape without combustion. If it’s the smell of combusted gas, then you may not have an adequate draft in your flue to carry the combustion gasses up the chimney. If your unit is meant to be vented, then the damper needs to be at least partially open to provide adequate ventilation. Find the manufacturer and model number for your unit and get a manual from the manufacturer’s website. I wouldn’t burn it until you confirm proper operation. Many local gas utilities will come inspect gas appliances for free. We had our gas company check out our installation.

    So how much heat did it throw off? I understand not much, i wouldn't want to heat the house with it. I'd be afraid of forgetting to open the damper when having a remote (somebody not know and accidentally kill us with CO). Do you just leave it open all the time? My masonry fireplace has an outside fresh air vent built into the side of it. I'm considering getting ceramic glass doors and leaving the vent and damper open all the time (maybe bolting then open so there are no worries. While I have free real wood, I don't have time to tend it safely and it's a lot of work for something I'd only want for ambience 99% of the time.

      It is a vented unit, so a lot of the heat goes up the chimney, but it still throws quite a bit out into the room. The unit comes with a damper clamp to keep it from be closed accidentally. I like your idea of putting some glass doors on it so you could leave the damper open. Since you have a fresh air vent already, you could use one of the vented units that draws fresh air from the outside. They come with a permanent glass “screen” on the front, so they’re really just for looks. Given the rising energy costs, you may want to consider a wood burning insert for heat and affordability. They make some really classy looking units these days.

    What adapter did you use inside the fireplace? We are going from old school gas logs to ventless logs.

    I've watched from the beginning. I can't believe the changes. The house is turning out to be beautiful.
    Did you cover the brick around the fireplace? I only remember the brick to the left being removed.

    I bought a house, it already has that equipment but I don't know how I should connect the propane gas tank to the outside connection, can you help me with that?

    • @WoodmereEstateRevival
      @WoodmereEstateRevival  ปีที่แล้ว

      Just to clarify, the your house already has a gas fireplace unit installed and you are wanting to know how to hook it up to a propane tank outside? There are a lot of variables there, and if you are inexperienced, then it should be done by a professional plumber.

    Did you cut in your vents for fresh airing? And also did you alter while you had to have altered your flu pipe to the atmosphere? Seems to make it so simple. I don’t think you know what you are quite doing. If you’re in Australia they would condemn you for that.

    • @WoodmereEstateRevival
      @WoodmereEstateRevival  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Paul. These are ventless gas logs. You’re thinking of vented gas logs, which require a special vent from the outside for fresh air and exhaust. Ventless logs work in an existing masonry fireplace, and they use air from the house to burn and a working flue to exhaust the combustion gasses.

      The duel pipe burner, one bag of embers, and the flex connector pipe is about $80 bucks on Amazon all day long, My friend gave me his old logs when he bought a different stack design. But I’ve found decent sets for $350is.
