I see some models of ventless fire places offer a circulating fan. Will this give you more heat (BTU/Hour) than a ventless fireplace without the circulating fan installed?
I live in an old house that has a "fireplace". It was originally set up to hold a gas stove I believe and not act as a full on fireplace. It has a flu and has brick surround. I do not believe the flooring is fire rated. per a chimney sweep. Do you think it would be safe to use a ventless set up for this fireplace? vent closed or open?
Folks the answer to most of your questions is: Vent-free gas log set and fireplaces a totally safe if installed by a certified gas technician. It is not a DIY project! Also, Vent-free gas logs have a safety feature an (Oxygen Depletion Sensor) that will automatically shut the appliance off if something goes wrong. Vented Gas Appliances do not. In addition.they do require Annual Service, whether you use it a little or a lot. Failure to do this will cause problems down the road. Also, all vent-free appliances are made to operate on one fuel type. Each burner is set up to run only on Natural Gas or Propane. They are not interchangeable from one gas type to the other. Attempting to do so will cause problems you don't want to deal with. And, finally. Purchasing from a gas log dealer in your area is safer than buying one online or a big box store. Because they should have the knowledge to size the the BTU output to your specific needs. Since Vent-free is 99% efficient, more is not better. By the way, in the past 20 years over a million Vent-free units have been sold and installed in home throughout the country. According to the American Lung Association, there has never been a death related to use of a Vent-free gas appliance. When properly installed and operated according to the Owners Manual requirements.
@@glstevens7186 The gas shutoff valve may be in the OFF position. Therefor, no gas is getting to the pilot. Was this professionally installed or was it a DIY project?

Can you replace a vented system with this system? Do you then just run the damper closed? We currently have a vented log set that doesn't work and no damper.
+Dan D. Dirges yes my artificial logs look burnt and there is black soot build up inside the glass insert and under the burner. I have shortness of breath. I suspect but don't know for sure that this is the cause.

When the lower level of my home was finished the contractor put in a gas fireplace and log set, however, it was installed without a vent. Can't use it, as when lit gives off a terrible and I assume toxic smell. Can I convert this gad fireplace to ventless without replacing the firebox. Is it the log that create the toxic smell or the gas itself as it has no vent?
Only if that's all you have available. And the burner must must be setup at the factory for Propane Gas. There is no conversion available to switch from one gas type to the other.

I have a new ventless installed but can't get the pilot to light.
Yes there is gas to it.
The igniter is sparkling.

Mine are all the same size and has no holes or pins. 😵

Do you need a burner pan?
My fireplace does not have a glass door but has a metal mesh screen instead. It also smells weird, should I be concerned? Any suggestions?

Go on line for operating instructions, they are all close to the same and easy to operate.

carbon monoxide kills. If you're still alive. Install a chimney so it vents the fireplace. Or replace fireplace with an electric model
