I love Moto Guzzi‘s. I have had four of them since 1979. I have just under 200,000 miles behind bars of guzzi’s..
pronounced- goot see, like you would say put see.. anytime you see an Italian word with two z’s, like pizza, you put a chop in the pronunciation at the Z..
The motorcycle in this video, I had.
I loved the look, I loved the instant torque right off idle. I loved hearing it breathing, I love feeling it working like a two cylinder locomotive. Moto Guzzi‘s have a soul no Japanese motorcycle will ever have.
They are as reliable as a sledgehammer. I never had a mechanical on the road that left me stranded. Little quirks like historic weak start relays, Oil pressure sensing units that fail and turn your oil light on and scare the hell out of you. It’s not an oil problem, it’s that sensor problem. I’ve had that fail on three of my Guzzi’s.
anytime you see a machine like the one in this video, any of the sports with clip Ons. You will always always find them with very low mileage on them. Because they are the most uncomfortable motorcycles in the history of the universe. I do not know what it is about this motorcycle. Even if you never had knee or back problems. You will limp and be bent over after just 45 minutes in the saddle on this machine. It will break your ass, it will give you knee problems.. and it is tragic because these are the most gorgeous motorcycles ever made.
I tried to make mine rideable for more than an hour at a time by adding a small windshield, I removed the clip Ons, I drilled the upper triple clamp, and I mounted handlebar perch’s for normal 7/8 inch handlebars. I put a set of low bars from my old Honda CB 400 F in those perch’s.. I installed a pair of Buel Ulysses foot pegs that go right on, and they lowered the foot pegs 2 inches because the foot pegs are so high, they cause your jeans to bunch up behind your knee, shutting off circulation.. even with the foot pegs lowered 2 inches, there was still plenty of ground clearance. And I’m not really a slouch, I’ve won six road racing championships, I was two time national champion in my class, so I’m not slow and I know how to get around the corner.. I wanted to love this motorcycle. I loved the lock, the styling, the sound, the engine, the torque, the handling for a shaft drive .. in spite of all that emotion I had for the motorcycle, I had to get rid of it because it was damaging me. I knees which never bothered me before or since I saw the bike, would bother me for days after one ride ..
I ended up selling it and bought another moto moto guzzi- s norge 1200 GT, which has a single sided swingarm, six speed transmission that ships like a modern Suzuki transmission, had an all day seat and riding position, rubber topped foot pegs to eliminate vibes, electric windshield, heated grips, color matched saddlebags, ABS brakes which I do not like, but, on the Norge, it has a big Easy to reach button that says 8BS, so you can turn the ABS off and have conventional breaking when you’re on gravel, brass in a campground, or even get caught in the snow which has happened to me several times commuting. If you have a BS in any of those situations on don Hill gravel, Don Hill wet grass, or snow, you have a ZERO brakes.. happened to me on my BMW K 1200 LT. Downhill gravel road, I touch the brakes and nothing, no brakes front or rear with a 90° turn at the bottom of this long steep hill. I was lucky because I was able to run into a cyclone fence about 30 feet off the road through grass to stop. Needless to say I got rid of that BMW almost immediately after that life-threatening incident. I will never buy another motorcycle that does not have ABS that can be turned off… ABS brakes are a placebo for idiots on motorcycles..
anyway, my Norge was a very reliable motorcycle that I kept it from 2007 until 2021.. I only wish my guzzi sport was not the most uncomfortable motorcycle in the entire history of the universe, because they are the most beautiful motorcycle in the history of the universe.. A real pity. But it would be a great track day bike, and if you’re not going to need to ride more than a half an hour on your commute, it’s tolerable for very short rides.. it feels very very powerful, but don’t race any Japanese 600 sport bikes because they will leave you in the dust. But Japanese sport bikes have that buzz feel and sound. They all feel and sound exactly the same to me. They feel very busy and nervous. And they’re not very pleasant on long trips on the interstate. guzzl’s never feel over stressed..they have wonderful understressed engines..simple to work on.. 45 minutes to adjust the valves using just 4 simple tools.. Allen wrench, box wrench, screwdriver, feeler gauge. even if you don’t do your own valve adjustments, it won’t cost you over $4000 the way a Ducati can to have the valves adjusted..
    I love guzzi’s…
    just not this one….

That engine sounds so smooth compared to my Mk4. Your bike looks fabulous too.

Wow. Great looking bike. Being a larger guy I could never really do a full-on superbike. I could definitely see myself riding one of these. I love classics like this anyway. Thanks for posting!

It is a great looking and sounding bike. At 6'4 I've had the same issues. As I like the classic Italians I gave the Le Mans II a go. However my knees would not fit behind the carbs :-/

I purchased one on Xmas day this year. Same model, same accessories excepted for the exhaust mufflers which are stock on the one I purchased. I have not picked it up yet, but I will ride it back from Florida to Texas. I am completely psyched about it!
There bikes have so much character and charisma. And they are keepers. The architecture of the engines is typical and runs forever.
Can you tell me the brand of the tank bag?
