    As a self-defense folder, the Counter Point XL is the most superior folder you have there. Due, to it's Andrew Demko Tri-Ad Lock. Peace, Stiletto :-)

    These knives need to be shiny, because their defensive power relies greatly on intimidation... and shiny steel is more intimidating at a deep mental level. It´s a good feature.

      sometimes i think you may be exactly correct. i may have mentioned that in the video, i dont remember, but they also get the attention of potential customers. for me, if i have been attacked, i do not want it known that a knife has been drawn until the my attacker feels its sting, but thats just me. i want the attack and my self defense over with as quick as possible so i can get on the phone and get authorities there to deal with any retribution that may come from the attackers friends, family or dogs that may come in a follow up attack once they see their friend on the ground bleeding out. my asthma has been really bad lately and i cant deal with drama from idiots who want to harm me just for fun.

      Stupid comment. Knives used in combative encounters are felt not seen. That psychological factor crap is the rhetoric of movie watchers, and those that have never used, or had an edged weapon used against them. If you pull it you better be using it right then. That hollywood BS is as dumb as the "racking a shotgun" will scare off home invaders.
      I would rather my blades be blacked out so they can't be seen.

    The epic battle for the ages, the bowie-style clip point vs the tactical spear point.
    I go back and forth about which style of blade shape I like the best.
    Both have their advantages and disadvantages.
    I still can't decide which shape I like the best.
    My EDC is the CS Hold Out 6 with the Snaggletooth mod.
    It's so light I barely remember I am carrying it.

      @@jasonbrown467 It is, it's lighter than the Counter Point. Not as light as the 6 inch Tri Lite though. The Tri Lite is a little too thin for my taste. I own both the Hold Out 6 and the Counter Point 6 and both seem sturdy enough to handle utility tasks as well as self defense. You can add a Snaggletooth on them too which allows them to be quickly opened as soon as they are removed from your pocket. Works similar to the wave feature on an Emerson.

    Nice video, I have all the three big Cold Steel you have (Counter point, Luzon and TI Lite) plus others.
    At first I removed the thumb stud on the Counter Point XL, and replaced it with a zip tie, to be able to wave it from the pocket, but I've lately noticed that, expecially in an induced stress situation, the wave opening wasn't too reliable, so I removed the zip tie and didn't even put back the thumb stud: I've learned that, in a stressful situation, only your gross motor skills tend to work well, so, now I only train to open it by inertia.
    About folding daggers, take a look at the Extrema Ratio Contractor, I have just purchased the single edge version, the Lucky, and, even if I would have preferred a totally plane edge, it's a great stiletto !!

      @@jasonbrown467 I live in Italy, and I purchased mine (the single edge version) in a shop located a few km from where I live. You can also order the knife directly from Extrema Ratio, but I'm not sure they can ship to the USA, expecially the double edged version, you have to contact them and ask for informations.
      I think some distributor imports Extrema Ratio knives in the USA, but I don't know who the distributor is.
      Keep in mind the knife is not cheap, I payed about 170 € for my Lucky and the Contractor costs the same.

      @@nicolaalberti7736 dude, yes!! i cant wait to try that mod. i was contemplating making a small "wave" shaped hook that would maybe work and you could use the thumb stud holes to thread small bolts to hold it on. i will try that zip tie mode though...like now

    • @jasonbrown467
      @jasonbrown467  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i dont remember specifically how i did it, but i am pretty sure i used vice grips. be careful, i think the blade had to be open to get a bite on them. they unscrew like a bolt and nut, just harder to get a grip on them, but it can be done. i have a video showing me removing the thumb stud on the luzon, its the same process.

    I don't have a clear answer to the next problem. I would like to know the views of those who are able to clarify this issue, which is important to many. It is clear that the longer a knife is, the more effective it is in self-defense. The question is: when you do self-defense with a Counter Point XL, does the blade enter the attacker's body to the opening element or to the handle?

    • @jasonbrown467
      @jasonbrown467  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      honestly i dont know. someone may have done a thrusting test, i would imagine for the average person the blade will push into the attacker until the handle makes contact and then the drag is increased significantly, making it somewhat the stopping point.

    • @Dorin2990
      @Dorin2990 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jasonbrown467 Thanks for your feedback. I think the same. Probably the most difficult problem would be removing the knife, especially if the attacker has thick clothes, so (when removed) the opening element could stop in the clothes; theoretically, this could be a big problem. A few days ago I did the following test: I put a 5 cm thick polystyrene plate on two chairs, so that the blade enters the polystyrene but does not hit the chairs. I used Counter XL, Ti-Lite 6 ”, Browning DA52 (blade length = 13 cm). All blades and opening elements have entered the polystyrene. My impression is that the opening element in Browning, which has the shape of a disc, enters more easily. I easily removed all the blades from the polystyrene.

    • @jasonbrown467
      @jasonbrown467  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Dorin2990 i think i may have missed your point about the "opening element", do you mean thumb stud? on the subject of these opening devices, i removed mine and replaced with something called a "snaggle tooth". the snaggle tooth gets caught on your pocket as your remove the blade from your pocket and it pulls the blade open as it comes out the pocket. the first snaggle tooth i got broke, and they sent me another one, and it broke too. and i really dont know how, i barely touch my self defense knives, i think the snaggle tooth is made of aluminum and it breaks easily. i removed the snaggle tooth and used a large black zip tie. it looks ugly but it also gets caught on my pocket as i pull it out, so it opens automatically. i suspect the snaggle tooth would break easily if thrusted into an attacker. the zip tip should not, and it should not break, and it should not get caught on the way out.
      luckily i have never had to use my knifes for self defense, but i honestly doubt the knife would ever get stuck in an attacker, i imagine adrenaline will be flowing and one could pull the shirt off some clown if it was caught in their knife. plus as they say with knives, dont treat it like a sewing machine needle. your best bet it slashing and pluging then slashing and a slight twist at the same time, to open up a giant would channel.
      also, as far as length goes, well the larger bladed knives tend to have larger handles and that in its self is useful. plus with these big cold steal knifes you can deploy the blade and use them with big thick gloves easily, wet or dry.
      side note, i neve use the thumb studs anyways, i either wave them out of my pocket or flip them open with a quick jerk of the wrist.
      plus if i have made the decision to use lethal force to end an attack on me. i might as well go all in with a big blade. when was the last time a cop aimed for the arms or legs, never lol. low lifes have taken over this area where i live and there are giant pitbulls every where too. when i get attacked i suspect it will be more than one attacker coming at me and maybe even their dogs. i need to dispatch every attacker asap. at the time of this video being uploaded and me buying all these knives i was in poor health, but i have mostly fixed that, plus its been a few years since i have heard from the ones who kept threatening me with harm, maybe they are in jail? none the less, i still carry, i just wont be so short of breath and on he verge of a heart attack if the addicts want to come play again.
