Hey Nutn, just want to say thanks for all your hard work you put in for our benefit. But I hope that you will apply to be in the gundies. I believe you deserve some recognition from the gun community as a whole. ✌🏽
I started buying Cold Steel back in the 1980s, back when they were made in Japan. The value was there even back then. Always impressed with quality, thoughtful designs, functionality and aesthetically.
In the 80's Japanese things were all inexpensive. Very. And excellent quality. But for VERY different reasons who Chinese good. Everything used to say "made in Japan" for a long time. Now it all says made in China. Gladly the quality is Chinese goods has come on a long way now (2024) Again, all for very different reasons. Basically the Chinese goverment is subsidising goods sold abroad.
I’ve been packing and flipping the 6” for about a week now. I carry an H1 Ladybug alongside for the sheepy types. But man. I can’t put the Luzon down! As a car flipping knife. I took it in the woods and carved down a walking stick for my girlfriend and it worked excellently. That flat grind does exactly what it should! Cold Steel wins again.
Well Col. Thanks to you I have carried the recon for over 6 years. Even bought the ex large for travel. I'm done. I'll carry this knife to my grave and leave my collection to my grandson.
I have a Cold Steel Spartan that I brought years ago when it first came out. Love it. It actually saved me from a altercation with three "gutter punks" and their pit bull.
I have approximately 8 months of edc use at work with the 6". The steel is sub par and thin, and comes with a very rapidly dulled extreme razor edge. It is not ideal for chores. It is however very resistant to chipping or snapping, and extremely thin sharp and pointy. It is tailor made for maximum legal weapon potential in a place with oppressive laws. My opinion is that as is typical of Lynn Thompson's work, it is a highly refined and very affordable purpose built precision uncompromising weapon, nothing more or less. If you want a work knife in this size, thicker and better steel is what you want, not this. Want an optimal single edge folding fighter? Here it is.
I found that the scales are horribly made and it won't be quiet if you are getting ready because it makes super clunky plastic noises, and the lock mechanism is also terrible, the scales should had been done in G10 rubber, at least, and the locking mechanism smoother... this is a 10 dollar dollar knife all day... when I purchased a pair at Wish from Fury knives for 19 bucks each that are more solid that should tell you all you need to know..
@@z.r0.m_0n I've yet to own a d2 blade. I have used the 5.5" aus 10 voyager tanto as a work knife for years now. I consider it the perfect working folder.
Between living next to Cold Steel's HQ and this crazy old bat reviewing knives my wallet doesn't know what to do. Used to have an EDC tray, now I have an EDC drawer.
I edc my Cold Steel Rajah ii that I had to pull in Melbourne once. I'm a big fella that can handle himself and was vastly outnumbered until I pulled my Rajah. Pocket deployment was perfect and the sheer size of it appearing from my jeans front pocket was enough to end it all, right there and then....lol You could see they all wanted a closer look, but at a much further distance 😆😆😆 G'day from Australia mate.🇦🇺
Exactly the reason I have ALWAYS enjoyed your videos, NOT at any point do I lose interest! I am greatly appreciative for your honesty and for all the excellent reviews that help me out while keeping me entertained with your excitement and thoughts! Joyous blessings to you and yours and happy new year! I am on the fence with which knife I will be going for but as always you’re an absolutely wonderful source for such helpful guidance that will lead to my soon to be new knife purchase, as always THANX!
A full-size Cold Steel Rajah (6” blade) - rapidly deployed in an underground parking garage - prevented my truck from getting jacked by two meth heads. They literally freaked and split, very quickly. When you can’t legally carry a firearm, a big folding knife can and will save your ass in those rare situations when you’re cornered and your life and/or property is at stake. Cold Steel understands this reality. Sheer size is intimidating as hell, and 9 times out of 10 will defuze a bad situation fast. If it absolutely needs to be employed defensively, a large knife will give you great reach, and cause a longer/deeper wound channel. The coolness factor of bigger knives is just an added bonus.
Reminds me of their ti-lite. The 4inch model was one of my first knives my dad got me for Christmas one year. Started carrying it when I was 16 until the end of college. Cold steel makes great stuff and I'll be getting myself this one for Christmas this year.
Love this knife! I picked up the last 4" version SMKW had on display back in June. This knife instantly became my EDC blade. Its sharp as hell, I love the blade shape and how light it is. The action on it is like butter, just seems to pop open with ease. Overall a homerun from Cold Steel.
I'm very happy to see more knife reviews coming out here recently, guns are out of reach for me so knife reviews are the main reason I've been watching this channel for so many years, please keep them coming. P/S: some fixed blade reviews would be really awesome too...
I carry the smaller Luzon very regularly. But, I enjoy the largest Ti-lite and I love carrying the larger ti-lite with the Kriss style blade. I notice the larger cold steel blades ride perfectly in the pocket and lined up perfectly down the center of the thigh which always works for me. I love Cold Steel and the Luzon is a 9.5/10.
Thanks Nutn for starting me off in this great hobby. Yes, you were the guy. Since joining this channel, I've collected a bunch of neat knives and other "stuff" from your recommendations. I consider the money well spent for the pleasure I get. Thanks again.
I've been into knives for 25+ years, own and carry a LOT of brands/sizes, but for some reason have never tried a Cold Steel knife. Just bought the 4" Luzon and 3.5" Pro Lite Sport knives. LOVETHEM!!!!
I just picked up a Cold Steel Voyager, somewhat based on your review from about 8 years ago, and its an awesome knife! Razor sharp, and a great price. Great brand!
I like that belt clip for carry in business casual. Handle seams a little bit thick for that use-case but I like it. At that price it's pretty hard to argue with.
Nutn I've always appreciated your in depth, non biased, user experienced gun videos. You've helped make me a knife guy now as well and I'm enjoying your whole collection of videos. Thank you sir and keep up the good fight!
I believe it does have a ball bearing system instead of phosphorus bronze washers. I saw it in a disassembly video cuz I was curious as well as to what it was running on.
Nutn, thanks for the great review. After going to a local “hardware” store that only had Micrtech and Benchmade tools for multi hundreds of dollars I’m glad Coldsteel is still making great products that are affordable for the working man. In Florida I need a good tactical fighter that will be a force multiplier on the street and not in my wallet.
Got the 6 inch model, and used a Dremel Tungsten Carbide Cutter bit (#9901) to notch the flipper to grab my pocket for the wave deployment. Also replaced the clip with a metal one, I found the original clip was too tight on my jeans. Great knife, I love it!
I carry 2 knives every day and one is always the cold steel hold out that's 6" long and then most the time I have a cold steel ak47 but it's fun to change it up now and then.
I LOVE the. " Oh HELL NO !" I Baught the Large Luzon a year ago when it was Still New to the Market. I love it and it's my EDC. When I Pull it Out, people say. " Oh my GOD is So BIG !"
I've been carrying mine for a year got it the same day u posted this only problem I have is closing it the blade makes contact with a screw and rolled the edge in that spot
Mine's razor short out of the box I haven't sharpened it and I use it when I walk through the woods it chops through small limbs like butter and the blade still holds up it's a great freaking knife thanks for bringing out this video I think you're really awesome 👌👍🖐️
I am a huge fan of the medium. I’ve carried it for several months on and off and used it as a non tactical knife for LE duty. Cold Steel knocked it out of the park again.
BIG QUESTION Cold Steel Luzon Large vs Kershaw Strata XL ? Today, the large Luzon is $39. and the Strata XL is $70. I am very concerned about the CRAPPY liner lock on the Luzon - it is so thin to prevent a much thicker heavier steel blade from closing. How much more for the Triad lock on the CS?? I would pay more for a better mechanism.
Thanks for the review man, I agree with everything you said I’ve been carrying the Luzon L for about a year and a half, steel is great and its just awesome. It’s great for me because I’m 15 and can’t carry a gun lol
@@hindsight2022 There are some videos on TH-cam regarding the tip not sitting flush with the handle. I read a whole thread about it on one of the knife forums as well. Part of the issue was supposedly the thumb studs not letting the knife close completely.
I’ve been a fan of and using Cold Steel knives and other items for almost 15 years now. Like Nutnfancy says, they’ve had a few missteps, but for the most part you get high quality knives and other products at a killer price. I like blades I can use and try to avoid “safe queens”. If something happens to my $40-$120 knife it’s not as bad a blow as if something happens to a $300-$400 Zero Tolerance or $500 Microtech.
I've had the 4" luzon for about a year. My only complaint is the thumb stud. I wish they would have just left it as a flipper and not put it on. I DID stipple my luzon and it was well worth the 20m it took.
I want a frenzy so bad I was on the verge of getting the sexy blue one but I was a little short on cash so I went with a code 4 which is another great knife. I have a XL voyager anyway so the code 4 was a great buy I can carry both. Wouldn't make much sense to carry the frenzy and XL voyager together.
@@Bear-nu8xm yeah hopefully I get one in the near future. Also wanting an XL Espada which is another beautiful knife in my opinion. But yeah that frenzy well she sang to me the moment I saw her in those purty blue handles and sleek blade. To be honest I really wish they made a 3.5" version as well. It would be a nice utility blade for an EDC carry. I'd pay 90 bucks for a 3.5-4" version of this knife.
I edc my 5.5" talwar everyday. Love it. Never leave the house without it. I love the size and shape of the luzon blade, but I really hate the handle. Not in love with the steel ( I know I know) either. I do want to try some slimmer knifes so the frenzy is the leading contender right know.
I have the same philosophy of never leaving the house without a knife I'm a former ti lite 6 inch carrier than converted to a 6 imcj Luzon and it's the only folder I would take anywhere in the world if I could only have one..
Hey man, veteran here, thanks for what you do. What other big knives do you like waving!? I love my Kershaw Emersons, I love the Luzon, I truly appreciate your opinions. I have the CQC 11 and 6 in D2, am thinking of getting a Spartan, have you reviewed that?
I carry my 6" vaquero daily. Love it. Having big hands, big blades give me a positive grip. The oh shit looks when I pull it out, definitely brings a smile to my face.
The Voyager xl series is actually 5.5 inches the vaquero is awesome though i had one for a while then i traded it and got the holdout I which is a 6 inch blade, now i have the espada xl which is a 7.5 inch blade and i carry the holdout I in my left pocket and i also have a ti lite 6 all of which are awesome knives they definitely do freak people out when you pull them out to cut something or open a box or something though lmaooo
@@ryanreese5885 cheers for the reply, I have heard that the locking mechanism shoots over too far and gets jammed, also that the blade may deploy by accident sometimes in the pocket? I just want a sturdy, centred blade with a fast flip action without the jamming locking mechanism, because I just returned a united cutlery stiletto that had all these problems. Wanna use the refund money for this cold steel
K2thaM Makes sense. The lock isn’t the easiest to release but I wouldn’t use the word “jam” to describe it. I’m certain that it won’t deploy in pocket but with some practice it can be waved from the pocket.
@@ryanreese5885 Thanks for the feedback mate, I really think I will buy this knife, looks awesome. Sounds like the majority of the reviews are positive and I will make sure the ebay dealer examines it before sending it. I only wish it were made in the USA, Japan, UK or Germany. The made in china aspect sort of puts Me off, I recently bought a KA-BAR 1211, made in the USA, scary good quality
I used to have pretty big pocket knife collection....but they where all small. And as soon as i got my luzon large i gave away all my other knives😂....this is hands down the most intimidating easy to carry biggest pocket knife ever
Just got this in the mail yesterday for $40 bucks, the 6 inch blade!I have the XL G10 Espada (Love it) and this blade still surprised me and made me giggle when I got it in my hand! 😆 Anyways, I wish that they had this version...a cheaper version...and a G10 version with AUS 10. This clip is not bad, but I’m working on sanding down the clip because it gets caught so deep sometimes when I’m attempting to “wave” it from my pocket... Thanks Nutn’, I’m a newer Patreon guy and I’m starting to branch out to your other gear vids. Love your work!
I have had a Luzon large since June 2019. I LOVE THIS BLADE. Only 8cr13mov, but that doesn't matter for a martial blade. Not heavy at all considering the size. Very intimidating blade and I feel much better when I carry this where I cannot carry a firearm.
Happy. I love cold steel. Great quality for the money, and u can't beat their lock up devices. Lynn is a good dude, and cold steel as a company is the shit. Love the vids nutn. U the man.
@@collier9090 yeah but you know what? If anybody could do it I bet they could. Lynn Thompson and his team are geniuses, when it comes to making a well-constructed knife.
@@glenngoins3100 I definitely agree, Lynn is the man. Who knows, maybe they have been trying. I absolutely believe that if anybody could innovate a new, super tough design that it would be them.
At 8:15... went from mindlessly watching a Nutn Vid to laughing uncontrollably for awhile 😂. Had to rewind twice to make sure I heard what I thought I heard. Ahhhh Flatulence 😂😂😂. BTW... sounded like a wardrobe change may have been needed 😂
Gonzo never disappoints. I use my pocket knives for misc tasks so I didn't see the point of spending the cash on a Benchmade, Gonzo is the answer. Under 25 bucks with axis lock and easy to sharpen.
If you can get one, I highly recommend the R1 Military Classic. San Mai III preferred. Gorgeous. Very well-made. About as close to a Randall 1 as you can get. Along the lines of the Blackjack Model 7 and SOG Agency, too. Just sick.
i have a knockoff coldsteel ti-lite. great knife. then i got an actual cold steel ti-lite. my new edc. the knockoff is absolute trash by comparison. great company. the owner seems like the nicest company owner ive ever seen. i got my first cold steel knife (voyager vascero XL). after getting it, i immediately got the tanto, and the ti-lite and a few others. when i showed the vascero to my dad, he stuck it in his pocket. claimed it as his and tossed me a credit card to buy myself a new one. theyre that good. hands down favorite knife company.
I’ve wanted a Luzon for a while now the clip is what’s keeping me from getting one, because I would want to carry left side. I already have my Recon1 right side.
The secret sauce to the Luzons are the bearings. Bearings make a knifes action so addictive and fun and satisfying. Benchmade and CKRT should update all their current lines with bearings especially for the price we pay. I wouldn't mind paying an extra $20 for bearings in each knife.
I love all my Cold Steel knives. I carry one over all the other brands that I own. Spyderco, benchmade, microtech, SOG, kershaw etc all suck compared to my cold steels.

Again, all for very different reasons.
I'd rock that 4" all day. Lynn Thompson is the man!
I 💯 agree. But don't forget Andrew Demko, he the man too 🤙🏽

Nice knife
That's what she said.
Awesome
That thing is badass and intimidating as hell!! Would have loved to see the gutter punks eyes bug out.
Nice I rock a Rajah II its just a tiny bit longer and has a full flat grind.
Still rocking the Talwar XL.
DCWAKU all the reason to but a few others all most impossible to go wrong with a good cold steel pocket knife XL L M or Small.
Everyone knows the deal with 8Cr13MoV by now.
If you want a work knife at least buy D2, 8cr13mov is good for light tasks like opening boxes nothing worse
Yup, I spend at least $100 a month on blades.
I edc my Cold Steel Rajah ii that I had to pull in Melbourne once. I'm a big fella that can handle himself and was vastly outnumbered until I pulled my Rajah. Pocket deployment was perfect and the sheer size of it appearing from my jeans front pocket was enough to end it all, right there and then....lol
You could see they all wanted a closer look, but at a much further distance 😆😆😆
G'day from Australia mate.🇦🇺
What a time to be alive, knife reviews better then ever, keep it up nutn u da best
The coolness factor of bigger knives is just an added bonus.
bulllshit.
Jacob Poucher was one of the meth heads who unsuccessfully tried to steal my truck. :D
Better luck next time, bud.
I love cold steel. Been buying their products since I was 12 and recently have been only buying the large folders. Can’t get enough of them.
Id rather have the 6” blade in a defensive situation than a 4”, thats why I carry one.
use a glock man
@@leolv520 lol, not as easy as we all wish man
Reminds me of their ti-lite. The 4inch model was one of my first knives my dad got me for Christmas one year. Started carrying it when I was 16 until the end of college. Cold steel makes great stuff and I'll be getting myself this one for Christmas this year.
Got a Luzon 4 inch from your Review. Have used it and it carries very well while in my slacks.
I carry a Talwar XL daily and have done so for 3 years now. I love big blades and like to carry them always have and always will.
Still rock the recon 1 tanto after 8 years
Love this knife!
I love it. A Filipino inspired folder!!!
Thanks Nutn for starting me off in this great hobby. Yes, you were the guy. Since joining this channel, I've collected a bunch of neat knives and other "stuff" from your recommendations. I consider the money well spent for the pleasure I get. Thanks again.
whipped out the 4“ in longhorn steakhouse and properly cut up my outlaw ribeye!
I've been into knives for 25+ years, own and carry a LOT of brands/sizes, but for some reason have never tried a Cold Steel knife. Just bought the 4" Luzon and 3.5" Pro Lite Sport knives. LOVETHEM!!!!
The whole bit about US Manufacturers goes 'cold' when the Luzon twins proudly display "CHINA" on the blades.
I just picked up a Cold Steel Voyager, somewhat based on your review from about 8 years ago, and its an awesome knife! Razor sharp, and a great price. Great brand!
8:13 all you need to know!
Hi. Filipino here. It's not (luh-ZON), it's (LOOSE-ohn)
Zipper pockets leather biker jacket is a must with these
I bought the Luzon because of this and I do not regret it!
I carry my cold steel outdoorsman, and my cold steel leatherneck tanto once in a while. Love em both
Appreciate the review. Nutnfancy tells it straight while being very entertaining!
I EDC the Cold Steel Ti-Lite 6 most days. It’s an excellent pocket sword
The Luzons are fun knives.
I have both sizes.
Cold Steel is really hitting it.
You need to check out the 4Max Scout.
Just got mine and it is awesome.
Got a 4max off Midway. $49. Awesome.
I LOVE the. " Oh HELL NO !"
I Baught the Large Luzon a year ago when it was Still New to the Market. I love it and it's my EDC.
When I Pull it Out, people say. " Oh my GOD is So BIG !"
I have the larger one, aside from the cool factor it is a fully functional defensive knife. I still haven't figured out what to do with it though.
I've been carrying mine for a year got it the same day u posted this only problem I have is closing it the blade makes contact with a screw and rolled the edge in that spot
I bought one (the 4 inch) as soon as they came out. I love it.
Nutnfancy, the G.O.A.T

Mine's razor short out of the box I haven't sharpened it and I use it when I walk through the woods it chops through small limbs like butter and the blade still holds up it's a great freaking knife thanks for bringing out this video I think you're really awesome 👌👍🖐️
Mine was razor long out of the box.
Probably why they put a side safety on it because they KNEW the liner was so thin
I learn so much on your show. I have to drive 1 hour every day to and from work and I always start the day with one of your awesome shows. Keep it up!
I have both Luzon's and enjoy both. Carry the 4 inch daily and the 6 inch is my fun factor !
Thanks for the review man, I agree with everything you said
I’ve been carrying the Luzon L for about a year and a half, steel is great and its just awesome. It’s great for me because I’m 15 and can’t carry a gun lol
The secondary lock makes me feel a lot better about carrying a cheap knife for defense
About to get a Bachelor's in philosophy, I'm a vet and love this man, great job, thank you.
Current edc blade is a microtech ultratech. Just switched yesterday. Was carrying a rajah 2 paired with a manix lightweight
Don’t knock XHP! It’s an amazing knife steel (and tends to be underrated compared to the in vogue “super” steels).
Agreed but they aren't using xhp anymore
@@collier9090 yes, apparently the steel production couldn't keep up with Cold Steel's demand.
So they're using S35VN now.
Still a very good steel.
Without watching the whole video... Did they fix the design flaw from the first run?
Design flaw ? I had mine for about 3 years it rocks
@@hindsight2022 There are some videos on TH-cam regarding the tip not sitting flush with the handle. I read a whole thread about it on one of the knife forums as well. Part of the issue was supposedly the thumb studs not letting the knife close completely.
@@TimberMoto i cant speak for cold steel but the 1 i got is fine closes all the way no tip sticking out or loose thumb stud
Mines fine and I love it
Yes, in some of them the recess for the thumb stud wasn't deep enough to allow the blade to seat fully when closed.
But they've fixed that now.
Please do a video on how you engrave your knives. What do you use etc?
I've had the 4" luzon for about a year. My only complaint is the thumb stud. I wish they would have just left it as a flipper and not put it on.
I DID stipple my luzon and it was well worth the 20m it took.
Luzon is really cool however the Frenzy is my favorite Cold Steel.
@@sneakypeaky6000 Yes, i like the blue one too. Such a cool design and you've won any non gun attack, simply by pulling it out.
Been carrying the xl luzon for a year now. Love it to death. Cold steel's 8cr13 is nothing to sneeze at. Their heat treat makes it act like aus8.
Just received my 4” Luzon in the mail. It’s awesome, light and fast!
Any issues so far? I really want one but they are 80 bucks in Australia,
K2thaM No, it’s been great. I was able to get it for $29 on Amazon. It’s incredibly sharp. I wouldn’t hard use it but it’s a great buy.
Anyways, I wish that they had this version...a cheaper version...and a G10 version with AUS 10.
This clip is not bad, but I’m working on sanding down the clip because it gets caught so deep sometimes when I’m attempting to “wave” it from my pocket...

...and your Philosophy vids are on point.
My Luzon bounces closed when I wave it sometimes. I will be removing the quillion that waves the knife... maybe. I’m not sure yet
I have had a Luzon large since June 2019. I LOVE THIS BLADE. Only 8cr13mov, but that doesn't matter for a martial blade. Not heavy at all considering the size. Very intimidating blade and I feel much better when I carry this where I cannot carry a firearm.
KRVs are still the best part of the Project and what I look forward to the most. Please keep em coming, Nutn!
I have to send back the one I just received. Too much metal for the liner lock to engage. So now I get to see how good customer service is.
Happy. I love cold steel. Great quality for the money, and u can't beat their lock up devices. Lynn is a good dude, and cold steel as a company is the shit. Love the vids nutn. U the man.
The Voyager is still the best large blade they have imo. The XL is ridiculous and awesome.
In my opinion every pocket knife that isn't meant to be small an tiny should have a 4-inch blade. Every inch matters, just ask any women lol.
I love this knife, I gave it away as a gift to my brother for his birthday. Bought myself another (And a Crawford 1!).
Cold steel Is great! Wish they made automatics. I'd love to see their version of a Italian stilettos.
It would be cool but they won't do auto knives, an auto can't pass their testing. They just aren't tough enough.

Just sick.

Thanks for the review. Tell us where to get the Fairey Swordfish. Hank
I bought 23 Honey badgers for Christmas gifts. excellent blades.
I’ve wanted a Luzon for a while now the clip is what’s keeping me from getting one, because I would want to carry left side. I already have my Recon1 right side.
Sorry for the silly question, what is a Marshall blade?
LOL. He means martial, tactical, military-ish.
I got one of them there 6" Luzon. The Espada with "wave" type opener (works fantastic) is the bomb.
