Jonathan. This is Mike from day 125 in 2017. I ski faster than those around me but like you. I am under control and avoid traffic. The guy on skiis in the yellow pants hunched over doing a flying wedge was the dangerous one on the hill that day.
My son Austin was doing side hits on schoolmarm our whole time there.
The girl on the cell phone... That was a bad look. Face it.. You got railroaded. Most everyone has sometime in life. I like your response of starting a conversation.
Lastly. Hope you don't mind I used your drone footage im my video of May 20th.
I put it in the credits.

As a longtime ski instructor (who also boards occasionally) here is my safety course.
    1. Look behind you (regularly).
    2. Watch for faster traffic coming your way
    3. Don’t worry because they are going fast, but look for signs that they are in control
    4. If you see two flat skis, or a flat board approaching, and going straight, be very worried.
    5. If they are carving the skis and you can see the bottom, or the bottom of the board, and making smooth turns, don’t worry.
    6. If they are in Levi’s, or Carharts, on rental equipment, and coming your way, in a straight line, find a tree to hide behind and point somewhere in another direction. This person will go where they look and you don’t want to be the object they stare at.

    • @sheltermutts4185
      @sheltermutts4185 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@M. Hoffman thanks! Skis or boards flat on the snow while moving generally indicate a newbie who has not yet gained the control provided by edging. Conversely, if I see high edge angles it is usually a skilled person I have little to worry about. Watch any ski video on a crowded slope and you'll see what I am talking about.

Mattia Lenzlinger Most U.S. ski resorts are just like those in Switzerland where you can go as fast as you want, but clearly keystone is not a resort I will be making an effort to go to in my lifetime. It’s honestly a disgrace to the U.S. ski industry from what I’ve seen. Switzerland on the other hand... that’s a place I will definitely make an effort to visit.

I'm from NC but i went to Colorado a few years ago for a week to ride. Keystone was the 1st mountain we rode. My friend who lives in Colorado, that we stayed with, was leading the way down on the 1st run. He caught a edge, went down, and broke his collar bone. 1st run on the 1st mtn of the trip. We lost our guide after that so my buddy and i just explored a couple other places and I feel like i missed out on a lot of cool runs because we were just 2 guys from NC going down hills.

This whole situation bums me out. I was a lift operator for a season back in '08 and I grew up riding key at least 50 times a year until I moved away. The whole vibe seems to be so different now. We used to be able to ride by the yellow jackets and high five them and I've zipped by them going at least 6 times faster than you were going with zero infractions. Probably won't be going back when I visit friends anymore. Copper or Winter Park it is I guess!

This past Wednesday, I almost got hit at Keystone by a yellow jacket on skis who couldn’t stop. I swear you can’t make this stuff up. I had to do a quick nose butter and whip my board around 90ish to avoid him hitting into me. At first I thought it was just a gape in a yellow jacket, then realized it was an employee, a yellow jacket. Now I know employees (snowboarders) at other mountains, on their off days, will try skiing just for fun, but this was not the case here. He was on duty. Really Keystone! Your safety personnel are Beginners!!! No wonder they hate people who point their board straight, unreal.

Hey Jonathan, I have a question about medium sized jumps. So 85% of the time when I hit jumps I will clear them just fine, but the other 15% I either randomly lose balance and start flapping my arms like a bird uncontrollably. And in rare occasions, I’ll start to slowly fall back onto my tail mid air and sometimes directly on my back. I’m trying to move on to big jumps but I try to master the medium ones first, have that happen and lose my confidence to even try the big ones. I’ve been snowboarding for 6 years but was in a progression rut for a few and seem to be progressing but still have this issue.

If you have the funds, take a lesson. An instructor has knowledge and outside perspective that can help you with little inconsistencies. It's really hard to diagnose an issue like that without actually seeing you hit a jump.
If you don't want to or dont have the funds for a lesson right now, have someone film you. You might immediately see what you're doing and be able to correct it.

its kind of funny how in America and Canada you have these rules, over in Europe we don't have these things, I feel like in certain incidents you could have your pass pulled for nothing. I can see why they do this but I think it would 100% put off me going to certain resorts.

Seems like they would consider removing the black mark on your pass since you took the safety course. Maybe you've already spoken with management about it. I don't ski slow but so many times snow boarders came bombing down narrowly missing me at Keystone and Breck as I was making turns on green slopes.

Love your vids. Hey, on your powder slashes can you walk through the mechanics. Tried watching a bunch and it looks like you don't lead with your shoulder on the toe side slash- shoulders stay pointed down the fall line and it is all lower body twist. Is that right?

Send them a recorded letter and require an investigation if you request the can deny your request but still be honourable. It is quite clear that the flip offs and the jackass look is BS so they need to know who is making stuff up and reprimand them. The threat's of police involvement need to be apologised for. Also costs for wasting your time going to the course should be covered. Don't back down without an apology and if they want people to go no faster than a certain speed, They need to post a speed and a notice to do that speed you need to be in control. Send them your footage also and ask them if they have any counter evidence. Make the point that someone has been lying and it's not you. All a bit nerdoid but I thought the piste bully was for bashing the snow! Warning don't make the bully feel small by Looking Good.
