I know exactly what he’s talking about. I have autism, and when I have a shutdown or an anxiety attack, I can’t listen to peaceful music or silence and breathe evenly to calm down. The only thing that works is extremely loud metal or noise music-anything intense enough to the point where I can’t hear myself think anymore. That may sound counterproductive, but it’s not; a vacuum just makes me feel every single ounce of minutiae and restlessness to an overwhelming extent, and the only way to let go and just /be/ is if there’s enough going on to make it impossible to do anything but experience the currency of it. People can find presence via an absence of stimuli, but sometimes the best thing to bring yourself back into your body is stimulation to the extremes. I can imagine a light-bath would be an interesting and effective means to achieve that.
