    Not even kidding, I made the second mistake capturing some family members at a birthday party the other day! Any time people weren’t in a line someone was soft. But now I know better and will do better! 🙏🏾

    It's surprising how many clients will request the middle of day, thinking that the brighter the sun, the better ...then i have to explain to them what you said lol

    Good gear does not garantee good photos or video. You need great composition, great light, sometimes great luck, and a plan. Yet high quality gear can still be important. The glass quality of that f1.2 or f1.4 lens when shot at f4 or f5.6 is so much better than a kit lens shooting at the same aperture.
    Now that film simulations, filters, and wild color grading are so popular in today's images, you have to wonder if gear obsessed artists are missing the point. Grain, blur, shadow, slow frame rates or shutter speeds can all positively contribute to a visual creation.
    Thanks for those positive reminders Chris!

    Thanks Chris. Great stuff for virtually ALL new to the world of cinema and photography, as well as a very nice (and helpful) bit of information that some of us "old timers", simply forget due to familiarity. Always good to keep the "fundamentals" in mind if I find myself getting lazy and resting on my laurels. Definitely going to recommend this clip "specifically" to other videographers I've been working that ask me questions, this simply and succinctly, addresses the FAQ's . Well done!

    Great video Chris!
    It’s definitely time for me to start learning how to work with s-log. I recently recorded some pretty insane owl footage in a dark forest, but I really wish I could have pushed some more detail out of the shadows in the barred owls face. Not sure if s log would have saved me or not, time to experiment!

    • @chrisbrockhurst
      @chrisbrockhurst  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh it will always give you more push for harsher situations - That’s the exact use case scenario for it. Just gotta make sure you expose properly

    • @RandumbTech
      @RandumbTech 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is exactly why it’s so much more valuable to overexpose in SLOG3. It gives you great detail in the shadows. Just make sure you don’t clip your highlights. Practice practice practice.

    I still use an A7iii...., and still follow your suggestion of "autumn leaves", but i also find HLG works well, too. I never use s-log because im not sure i would gain much, better to wait for better light

    I'm with you gear matters a lot in certain types of photography and videography. Try shooting far off birds with a 16-35 :-) Happy holidays!

    Chill the EFF out 😂
    I'm not a beginner. Certainly not an expert and I've never used SLOG3. Just don't have time. S-Cinetone has me covered for now.
