    My 95 dodge p/u started doing this exact same thing yesterday. I TH-camd "dodge pick up won't stay started without giving it gas"... your vid popped up, I looked at your comment saying what the problem was.
    I called auto zone and got the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve for 30 bucks, looked at another vid to see how to change it and now I'm idling smoothly. Thanks for the vid, it solved my issue.👍👍👍

    Ladies and gentleman! Thank you for your comments and suggestions. But apparently nobody takes the time to read the comments that have already been made, especially by the poster of the video. The issue was the idle air control valve. This issue has been resolved for well over a year. Thank you again for your concern and your suggestions. But the issue has been resolved for this particular problem.

      @@robbymckinney7421 the solution has been posted for a few years now. I'm sorry that you have not taken the time to go through the comments and read what the problem was in my case. I'm sorry if what fixed mine does not fix yours, but in my case it was the idle air control valve. If that's not your problem, I wish you the best of luck in finding it.

    This is what mine started doing last week. Turned out to be the Idle Air Control valve (IAC). This is on he back side of the throttle body. To get to it easy, remove the throttle body (4 1/2 bolts) disconnect the throttle cable and pull it out of the bracket. You will have enough play with the other cables attached to get to the IAC. Pull the vacuum line off. Now you can turn the throttle body enough to get to the IAC and see what you are doing. Remove the 2 T25 screws, pull it off and clean the Throttle Body with carburetor cleaner really good. Also clean the IAC. It may work then. These are really finicky if they are dirty. The IAC is about $45 at NAPA. The other possibility is the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) on side of throttle body ($40 at Advanced Auto). First thing to try is cleaning the throttle body with a fair amount of Carb Cleaner. That may just solve your problem... for now. It is stupid that this sensor can shut you down.

    Thank You so much for this video. My Durango quit running after being parked in a heavy rainstorm so I assumed the no-start problem was related- maybe shorted computers or something. I was just about to have it towed to a shop (not cheap!) but decided to tackle it myself and $33.99 later she's back on the road! 🥳

    I know this video is old, but in case you were wondering....their is a T-25 adjustment screw for the throttle plate hidden behind a metal cap on the front of the throttle. turn in 1/4 clockwise. the IAC can't do it's stuff well or die out quick when the throttle adjustment is out. the motor will keep cutting out because not enough air is going past the throttle body, the IAC does odd stuff...a weak battery can do odd stuff too, like the IAC forgetting its basic setting...

      just ordered my IAC from Ebay for 7.99 with free shipping for my 98 dodge ram 1500 with the 5.2 V8. What mine does is that you cran it and it wont start and after the third try it starts. The reason I suspected the IAC is because once it starts the idle is a lower warm idle and what most people don't now is that an air idle control valve is simply an electronic choe that maes the engine idle fast at initial startup and then drop down after engine runs around 30 seconds and being mine starts after second or third try and only idles at warm idle, I new for fact the IAC wasn't working

    My 96 ram since it got cold does this too. But once I play with the gas long enough it will stat running and drive all day. Until the next overnight sit. With the key on I get a squirt from the fuel rail Schrader valve but not a pressurized spray. Already did the tps when I changed the transmission in January. The fuel pump on it was last replaced around 2002 when my dad owned it. I'm a mechanic just messing with it now. Gonna run more tests when I get to my shop tomorrow. And there is a slight skip at idle right before this started. And yes fresh tuneup in March lol.

    I had similar problem with my 99ram starting and stay running. My problem was air to fuel ratio, my machanic said to disconnect the plastic injector between the intake and the black solinoid (mine was next to the wheel well on the passenger side) see if there was fuel coming out. The pump solinoid may be bad. my case was weird because no fuel came out and it ran beautifully no problems. I put a bolt on the rubber line to make sure no fuel wasn't spilling. When I had the line connected the engine would die. I may send you a picture later

    Ok had the same issue with my 1997 Dodge Ram. After getting my truck I was told that it likes to die. Well I also had a noisy belt come to find out that the ac compressor had a bad clutch which made the belt noisy. I replaced the belt with one that had the no ac option. Truck worked fine. Then I need to replace the alternator, the new alt. pulley was bigger by a half inch. No problem with the R&R, but it made the belt tighter. Well my truck acted in the same manner as in this video. I drove my truck the belt warmed up and stretched a bit, now there are no issues. So my suggestion to anyone with this issue is to check your belt tension. Hope this helps.

    Sensor or vacuum issue. Fairly easy fix. Whichever it is, you'll probably be able to spray it down and reinstall. Start with TPS sensor, remove it, then crank her up again. If the issue is still there, then its the TPS. Spray her down with carburetor cleaner then reinstall.

      A big Thank You goes out to Mr Simpson, I didn't have the $ to put into my 2000 Ram 1500 which doesn't even have 100,000 miles on it. I hadn't driven it for a while so when I had to jump it and it wouldn't stay started, I had to keep my foot on the gas or it would die it had never done that before (I've had it for 12 yrs now) I even bought the OEM manuals so when & if I needed them I'd have them.
      You gota know the OEM books covr all 2000 era dodge trucks & vans lite & heavy duty & weigh in at a good 20+lbs, & you won't find the answer to what was going on with my truck anywhere in them, I'm so happy to hav stumbled across this TH-cam Post a big Thanks to them as well for giving us a place to post.
      Try Mr Simpsons suggestion before you take your dodge to the shop/ scrap yard. Anothr tip It doesn't take long for the trucks computer (if its in good shape) to reset to its original settings, I peddled mine for maybe 30 min once the idle came back & I was able to take my foot off the gas,I turned the defroster it was cold & as soon as I could see out the window took it for a spin around the block, ,Then all was right in Joanie's world ......

      turned out to be the IAC. She wanted her Mopar part, didn't like the after market one she had. replaced the Crank Shaft Sensor just before the IAC, but turned out, my poor girl couldn't breathe.

      Two 02 sensors are very easy and cheap to fix. Make your boyfriend do it. Simple as that. Two wrenches and a zip tie. Both sensors will cost you about $120.00 but they are really simple to install. Good luck, John.

    I'm having the same problem with my 2000 Dodge ram, I told the mechanic it sounded like the IAC, plus it's throwing a code that says that it's the IAC. However my mechanic disagrees. We have horrible mechanics around here and this is the best one around. I have no other option in mechanics.

    This issue solved... Don't replace iac, CLEAN IT OUT with carb cleaner first, if same results then replace, the throttle body gets gunked up and iac doesn't work correctly...the hole the iac sits in has a ridge make sure this is cleaned even if a new iac is being placed and its down by the tip of iac...so I'd say about 2in inside ... been messing around with my 98 durango 5.2 v8... my belt broke and it overheated....replaced belt to find out that my idle pully was tweeked...replaced the pully to discover this same issue, also it was still overheating, wouldn't start on it's own then mash gas petal and itd run till warm then idle rough like 400rpm-500rpm lights would dim and bright as it surged.. and normal idle was 700rpm (below the 1 in case you think I meant the 5 and 7 on rpms as it's x1000) ... replaced water pump cause when I heated it up it sizzles in front of the engine where the water pump is... fixed the overheating, but when I looked at the volts they were well below 14, took alt to a.z. and tested it, passed 2 didn't register 1 of the test maybe faulty equipment in hindsight but I went ahead and and replaced alt... so 350 in parts later I began my Google search and ran across this video looked in comments that this issue was resolved by replacing the iac ...broke as **** now I decided to take out the iac and clean it .... mine was gunked bad ...and my hole was so bad the black death soaked through a shirt and stained my hands ...after cleaning the iac and it's hole runs like a champ again... I wanna thank Elizabeth for saving me the 40$ part and getting me running again... Thank you!

    Just bought a 98 Dodge 1505.2 L. It will start and run great for a couple of days ran great for the first month I had it then it just won’t start it’ll crank over but won’t start the next day. So one day it’ll crank and run like a perfect truck then the next day sometimes it won’t start any ideas.

      @PositivePackLeaderK8  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      when you were starting the truck, did you get any thing i.e. any type of cranking or clicking noise at all?
      I'd start with checking your battery cables & connection. Then if that's not it, get your battery & alternator tested. possibly even the starter too.
      I have had issues with my battery cables before. In fact, still need to get new ones, so I don't run into that problem again.

    • @michaelbrown6042
      @michaelbrown6042 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mando Macias if your battery light is on, that means the computer isn't regulating the voltage from the alternator/ or the alternator is bad. Get someone to do a bench test with the alternator... if it tests good, and all your connections to the alternator are good, than you may have an issue within the vehicles computer.

    i had the same problem with my 2001 dodge i had to hold the gas peddle down at a steady hi idle then slowly let your foot off the peddle real slow and the computer will pick up and keep it idleing correctly every time i removed the battery terminal it would do this to mine it is something with the computer but every time i repeated this method it worked so give it a try

    • @PositivePackLeaderK8
      @PositivePackLeaderK8  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      brian gawenus I had tried that, my cranky Dodge does that anytime the battery had been disconnected for any period of time. But that was not the issue it was presenting. The IAC needed to be replaced. My poor girl couldn't breathe.

    • @seth364
      @seth364 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      brian gawenus The trick is, whenever you've disconnected your battery (or let it die) you have to reset the ECU's data of the gas ranges. All you have to do is disconnect the negative terminal and push the gas pedal all the way to the ground for 30 seconds, then reconnect your positive terminal. After that it should run just fine.
