Although I could not see myself ever taking on a project of this magnitude with my skill set or lack thereof, I really get a kick out of seeing how everything comes together on a bike. Great work and thanks for sharing these videos with us. Godspeed!
I sure wish I had this video 10 yrs ago when I started powder coating all my bikes!! Still a lot of useful tips and tricks I'll use on my next one. Thanks for all the great videos!! Keep em coming. I also see you have good taste in flannels sir #dixxon!!
Hey man thank you! And yes sir...love me some #dixxon flannels! Actually just ordered the rug and another hat last night lol...I gotta stay off that website!
Haha! I guess I should’ve waited to watch this video before asking about the bolt caps after watching part 1. Another good video Steve. Thanks and keep ‘em rolling!
Hahha yeah...I knew that part was at the end of part 2 and I actually shot the video yesterday for the caps...ill have it up next week. Man it turned out good.
Hey Jeff...thanks for checking it out man...just finished shooting the video for the caps and stuff..will be out monday but it sure finished it off nice!
Steven Housden I can’t thank you enough for what you do for all of us the details in your videos are awesome and you take time out of your busy schedule to do this can’t wait for what you’re doing next god bless brother
the forks I changed to black in the fat tire install video and the rim I got from Native custom baggers fat tire kit is black. Check my newer videos on the road glide whiskey project
no it is set at TDC but you have oil trapped in the plunger...The plunger must be compressed to expel that oil. Bleed down is the release of fluid in the lifter. Never turn your motor over to work on the other cylinder until you can fully hand turn your pushrod and the rocker has some free movement in them, if you dont wait you will likely bend the valve as you rotate the engine over
At the time I shot this I purchased these from amazon smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0762KC11C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 removed the rubber and had them powder coated then re glued the rubbers back on. Solid boards.
depends on what the white spts are but id start with a degreaser and brush and try to get it out...follow it up with the hd engine brightner or equivalent to bring back the black if its on the wrinkle black. Honestly I use stuff called Awesome from the dollar store...its a buck a bottle its pretty good degreaser for the garage.
Hey, just saw this comment and sorry to be so late on it but I just used all harley gaskets...Ive used them for years and never had an issue with them.
I know every locations will have slightly different prices depending on quality of work and zip code but can someone share what you could expect to pay to powder coat the parts covered in part one and 2?
Hey Andrew...I had about 25 pieces and both slip ons that got cerakote which costs a little more to do...the total for this bike was about 450 bucks. The pipes themselves were about 150. He told me a good rule of thumb for the parts was the outer primary cover was about 45 bucks and the the biggest piece I took him. So you kind of gauge from there what pieces cost. Now this guy was a powder coater and bad liner guy...not a local guy with a homemade powder coat oven and thats what I payed...so you may find it cheaper. I thought it was a good deal considering just replacing a few covers with black from HD was about the same price as everything I got done. I hope this helps you get an idea.
Thanks for the quick reply. That's cheaper then I thought. Add a couple more for fluid and gaskets etc... the bike looks great love the whiskey build. Your giving some great ideas. I need to go start a go fund me page???? Lol
I had everything powedered and both slip ons Cerakoted for roughly 550..the cerakote was the most .....so if id didnt do the exhaust it would have been around 350-400 and this was done at a huge powder coat shop...not a home made powder station. I have never got prices from anyone else so i really cant compare but this guy is known to be the best around my area....he didnt let me down...nice clean powder
well..to be honest im not sure on the brand. I purchased them on eBay and had them powder coated as they were used. I had them for awhile in my shop from an old build that I didnt use. After getting them powder coated I went to pout them on and the right side board would not mount up do to the design. The inside point hot the brake lever. soooooo they got pulled and put back in the cabinet. Honestly though I never knew the brand name as they were purchased used from the start.
Hello my chrome friend good video bike is looking awesome 👏. Hey how does a fellow chromey get the sikbagger swag? Not into all the Facebook/Instagram drama 🤣. Let me know please always in need of a sik sweatshirt. Thanks
Well I sat down and started pricing just replacing these parts with black parts instead of powder coating..and after the inner primary, derby cover, cam/points covers I was up to about 500. I called the local powder coating guy and got all of this done for 550, including the exhaust pipes. There was about 30 pieces total. What I didnt factor in was the gaskets. Around 170 for new oil for all 3 holes and all new gaskets and o rings.
Although I could not see myself ever taking on a project of this magnitude with my skill set or lack thereof, I really get a kick out of seeing how everything comes together on a bike. Great work and thanks for sharing these videos with us. Godspeed!

Steven Housden I can’t thank you enough for what you do for all of us the details in your videos are awesome and you take time out of your busy schedule to do this can’t wait for what you’re doing next god bless brother
Great video. Like you said buy a service manual. Locktite & torque are very important. Looking good
Thank you Bud! Yes sir cant preach it enough...service manuals...some guys get it lol
Very nice presentation, thank you very much!!
Thanks again for this-super helpful-you guys are the best!
This video was incredibly helpful
I meant when buying get a blacked out , we sprayed them black long a long time ago when I was much younger rise safe
Dope video man. That bike looks slick ! Are you planning on powder coating the front rim and forks as well ?
the forks I changed to black in the fat tire install video and the rim I got from Native custom baggers fat tire kit is black. Check my newer videos on the road glide whiskey project
As much as I love these two video it really didnt explain powder coating process and saving money
Then you've never talked to a Harley dealership. Ask them how much to install everything after powder coating.
Good video , am loving it. Keep it up guys 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you Carlos!
Thanks Steve for all of your awesome videos!! On the 2018 M8 are the steps the same for the rocker, tappets, and push rods portion?
youre very welcome..and no the M* is a bit different motor...best6 to get he service manual and go over the steps
@@sikbaggers thanks Steve!
I thought the derby cover was supposed to be inch pounds not foot pounds. Am I wrong?
Badass! looks amazing
Great Job brother.................Instructing is exhausting LOL
hha yeah man...sometimes it is...these long videos really take some time to shoot. But well worth it in the end.
so if those lifters were not flush with the case, does that mean it isn't on the compression stroke?
no it is set at TDC but you have oil trapped in the plunger...The plunger must be compressed to expel that oil. Bleed down is the release of fluid in the lifter. Never turn your motor over to work on the other cylinder until you can fully hand turn your pushrod and the rocker has some free movement in them, if you dont wait you will likely bend the valve as you rotate the engine over
Steve what floor boards are on the whiskey project?
At the time I shot this I purchased these from amazon smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0762KC11C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 removed the rubber and had them powder coated then re glued the rubbers back on. Solid boards.
Great videos Steve. who makes the floorboards you used?
Steve what product would you recommend when cleaning engine on bike. I have some white spots that i want to remove from top of primary
depends on what the white spts are but id start with a degreaser and brush and try to get it out...follow it up with the hd engine brightner or equivalent to bring back the black if its on the wrinkle black. Hey Steve - what gasket brand /kit did you use or recommend for doing the rocker tops and push rod tubes / tappets / etc ?
Thanks !!!
Hey, just saw this comment and sorry to be so late on it but I just used all harley gaskets...Ive used them for years and never had an issue with them.

Thank you Paul...Look up Detroit Choppers...he has them but not listed on the website...give him a call.

Steven Housden ok cool. Thanks Steve.
About how much does it cost to powder coat all the parts you did for these 2 videos
it was roughly 400 for the powder coat and 100 to cerekote the pipes
SIK Baggers I’m going to call around and find a local powder coater and do the same thing
Did anyone catch a total cost for powder coat?
550 total cost on my powder coat..now keep in mind that was 3 years ago
Are you going to black out the forks?
Yes sir..future video coming up...actually everything you see that is left chrome will have a future video of making it black.

Hey Ben no worries man...hit me up in my email...I'll do another order here very soon. slhousden@gmail.com
This looks badass... What kind of $$ do you have in this?

@@sikbaggers Really looks good. I appreciate your videos

its not too bad...take your time and youll get it
Just buy a black bike unless this is what you enjoy doing and ride safe
