My 94 is my daily, I could easily buy another car but what sense would that be, when this works so well and it's very dependable. It's also a good tool to prevent gold diggers from coming into your life.

I got a 94 DX 1.8l. I bought it for $300 and drove it across the country 4 times! I replaced a bunch of stuff and I do maintenance regularly. The alignment has been perfect for several years now, even after cross country driving. I got a new battery, radiator, plugs, wires, cat, exhaust, ignition, dist, rotor, belts, hoses, trans fluid, coolant flush, and I use full synthetic. My baby is old but runs like a champ :)

Went to Michigan and back with no oil (only noticed when I got back), accidentally added coolant in oil and ran for a week, 390k still runs and shifts smooth. I also happen to own an Audi suv. Told my daughter that if my 97 Corolla with 224k could make it from Baltimore MD to Phoenix Arizona (we moved), it was hers. I threw a timing belt and water pump on it and it literally cruised all the way there. That was 6 years ago. It's still going. Now my son has it. @@kylesjunkandprojects216 the beauty is in the simplicity of the engine. Less is more when it comes to the 90's Toyotas. Its what in my opinion cemented the brand loyalty. He had passed the little corolla down to my cousin, she neglected the hell out that car and was hard on it all the time, as what you mentioned, the oil burning problem, eventually seizing the the motor due to lack of oil. Good video. I have a 94 automatic with 160k miles. The plastic parts are crumbling, I had to replace the seatbelt. Recently replaced the distributor. it has a rattling noise in the dash area. I repainted it with cheap enamel paint and it still looks new 2 years later, the sun kills the paint eventually. Some of my most profitable videos have been those describing how I fixed stuff on my Corolla so it cost me $1800 in 2004 and has actually made me money. The AC and radio still work very well. Every time I wash it I open the hood and go over the engine area with a rag to remove and crud. I need to replace the radiator fluid soon and look into getting the timing belt changed. Thanks to covid I only drove it a few hundred miles last year. I may take out the back seat and add a foam pad to turn it into a camperolla. I am going to go check ut your other corolla videos- I subscribed.

My first car is the '97 liftback model - bought for $1700AUD but with low kilometers. There are always little issues you don't pick up on when buying like one of the seatbelts not retracting properly and weird idiosyncrasies with the fuses but otherwise they're obviously great cars.

One of the outstanding features of this car = NON Interference engine. If Timing belt breaks, "usually" the engine is unharmed.
That reliability and potential cost savings alone makes these cars and engines gold, if the rest of the car is in reasonable condition. Consider: GMC Acadia Terrain Enclave etc have a timing chain with well known problems. Conservative estimate to replace = $3,000 USD. Engine OUT operation. Yes, some can do it in car, but why even risk owning it.
    Stay gold.

But know it's gonna need brakes and tires, probably suspension work, and the oil smells like gas so probably gonna need new fuel injectors too. Plus the front end is mest up from the previous accidents so it doesn't make sense to add any more money into it. These were great cars im gonna miss it. Mine was a green 97 dx.

Fantastic video! These cars really are solid, except for when rust starts to take over.
    - Oh, and some of the 1996 and 1997 models came with a dealer or port-installed keyless entry and security system, although it is getting harder and harder to find one that has it. It's called the "Toyota VIP RS3000", and they have a very unique and quirky panic alarm sound. But those systems are actually pretty decent and useful, since they come with a whole ton of features, such as the keyless entry, glass breakage sensor, automatic rearming, door ajar warning, and some other features I can't remember.
