These are the cards used in the "season 0" of yugioh. Some of them are kinda cool looking. Interesting how the Ultimate Blue Eyes White Dragon wasnt fused, but bind together by chains.
Series 1. Something that adapts (no matter how loosely) the 1st 59 chapters of the source material manga is not and cannot be 0... unless you failed math class. Sequels get subtitles. Duel Monsters is Series 2 of the manga loosely adapting the rest of the manga starting from chapter 60.
Because that's the theme of yugioh itself : mystical :v While modern just straight up 'i would implement a circuit machine theme on the card design'. We went from stone tablet into virtual Ui
Using the Egyptian mysteries as a background was also a master move by Kazuki Takahashi. This civilization is fascinating and even has its place in "conspiracy theories".
0:44 3 Body Connection comes from the original Yugioh movie in March 1999. The anime staff used material from Yami Yugi vs Kaiba at Duelist Kingdom from the source material manga (the duel took place in October to November 1998) for their duel in this movie. Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon could have appeared in the movie, but they chose to hint at it instead. The movie is only 30 minutes so production wasn't that long.
wait, when i was a kid i used to buy some "original" yugioh cards that now i know are just chinese copies and some of the artworks were the same of the ones presented in this video, always wondered were they came from
Basic Insect with Cannons might be a card in the future with all the references to yugioh DM Konami likes to do. Never noticed Kazeshin had a face about to blow
Some of Bandai art is really neat, but alot have really akward framing with empty space or zoom portrait view, even if art is more visually striking, Konami did better job at having bit uniformity among cards to make them feel like part of same game
I honestly consider Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon and 3-Dragon Connection chain as separate cards, since the Wicked Chain itself is a card and was used with the 3 Blue-Eyes White Dragons. Still want to see it appear, even in just artwork.
I saw the animated special where Kaiba uses that chain to summon the other version of Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon. It's like a 45 minute special you can find online.
Its interesting to see such a contrast with Bandai's cards to the current tcg. However, some cards do look cursed like Ferel imp and Horned imp (Imps in season 0 hits different huh?) . But its also fascinating to see how they kept some designs and just change the colours and the positioning of the monsters. Like a closed up shot of the monsters or a different angle. Its interesting
Great video, really think you could have done more with it though. For example have both basic insect and laser cannon amuour to show how it evolved rather then saying no equivalent. Also with cards like gorgon you could have one that's extremely similar like the snake hair.
@@sul_9999 There's no such thing as "Season 0" manga, S0 and DM are the same manga with same story just like DB/DBZ and Naruto/Naruto Shipudden. Not to mention that in the manga, every single artworks for the cards remains the same throughout the entire manga without any changes. For example, Dark Magacian's card in the manga looks exactly the same for pre and post-Duelist Kingdom arcs (Which is the same artwork Bandai game based from), unlike in the DM anime/Konami games where it has a different pose. Kinda funny that it took Konami over 20 years to made a version of Dark Magacian card with manga-accurate artwork and color schemes lol.

Ehh idk, some of the bandai cards tend to reuse the same backgrounds for multiple cards, kind of giving it a bit of a cheap feeling to it. I like that the konami card game put more effort into making each background more unique to the card. Plus dark magician looks unfinished originally xD
I can't believe that Bandai made armored zombie a level 4 vanilla with 2,400 attack Base stat like if that card was released back in the early days it would be a meta staple for Beatdown decks but if we ever got something like that again I guess it would just see a niche play as some high-attack beater garnet
Ehh jt has 0 defense though, and the way Bandai yugioh plays it’s not attack vs attacks it’s attack vs defense. So really it’s pretty shit when being attacked by anything.
The one criticism and it's the only criticism I have of these videos is that you go too fast when scrolling through the cards and I constantly have to rewind it by 10 seconds and waste 7 seconds looking at the same 3 seconds or less. Other than that I hope they actually do some kind of promo when they release the cards in their original art form as shown on the left that would be so fucking sick
Does anyone remember a TH-cam video on which they talked in detail about every pre-Konami iteration of the game, the rules, the date they released, etc?
I know it is a late comment but I just found your videos. I love them but a bit of advice. Spend a little more time on each card instead of a gew seconds. It gives me more time to observe each. Other than that I think you have a goldmine of content here.
'"Spend a little more time on each card instead of a gew seconds. It gives me more time to observe each." Or you could pause the video instead of being lazy? Apologies for using basic common sense.
At first I thought the same thing but after looking up before making this video, I did learn that both monsters are different. They only share the same name.
@@Billy_Wyatt ah. I see. Perhaps they just decided to change his design. Or possibly it was just Gazelle the king of mythical beasts and they called him Chimera at first and changed his name later. He does look almost identical to Gazelle imo.
Yeah, it's probably due to copyright issues. Who knows... because some arts, as you can tell from the video, inspired the initial arts of the OCG/TCG cards.

Yeah and the concept of that artwork was recently implemented with the new Blue-Eyes artwork that was recently released in the megatin of this year. Clearly Konami took inspiration from the bandai artwork.

A lot of Bandai artworks was better, more detailed compared to Konami version. That's cool, they have this misteryous thing that early Yugioh have!!

Isn't the same chain (5:04) that trapped the 3 BEWD together? (0:44)
Also, I liked the Hecate archetype.
Yes, it is. Also, the Hecate monsters never made the jump to the OCG and not even the TCG. They could have been an interesting archetype.
Ideally, all of the missing cards should get printed in the TCG/OCG at some point. Idc if they're bad, I just want them.
I agree. Although most are already in the TCG but Dark Zora and others should have official TCG and OCG printings.
Love that old school look I wish they kept it
Yeah although some monsters retained their respective artworks such as Curse Of Dragon and Two-Headed King Rex.
@@Billy_Wyatt I should have said I really like the card layout better and the color.. really “Egyptian like”😂
Some of the Bandai card's artwork (Like Dark Magacian and REBD for example) looks more accurate to the manga artworks than Konami verison does lol
