Nice Set-Up.👍 Everyone Has Been Chasing The 5.56 For So Long Its Become So Mundane. 5.56 Barrel Life Is Is Incredible Compared To So Many Of The Wildcats That Have Been A Spin Off Of 5.56. Regardless Reloading Becomes The Issue Because Industry Hasn’t Been Able To Stock The Wildcats. Go Into A Store And 30-06 & .308 Availability Is Plentiful Regardless Where You Find Yourself. Great Information. Keep It Coming.
Sweet rig and thanks for posting! Just placed an order today for a 26” Criterion prefit in .223AI for my savage model 12 and woox chassis. I noticed several Dies on amazon and in the wild. I can’t wait to get it going.
@@thelonggunner762oh yes. The AR barrels are the reason I chose criterion for my prefit barrel. I have a 16” straight stainless HBAR from criterion that will shoot one hole groups almost every time you go shooting.
@@thelonggunner762just received my MDT XRS with a 10rd metal MDT mag. Its having some trouble and it looks like I will have too find the right magazine as you say. Any suggestions?
Very thorough explanation for a novice. Nice job. I am new to Ackley barrels. Bought a Thompson Contender 223 Ackley Improved barrel not knowing what it was. It was in excellent/new condition at a reasonable price. Wondering why the seller wanted to part with it. I am not reloading for more range. Does your rifle shoot accurately with factory loads ??
I get 75 bthp from rocky mountain bullets for less than 20cents per. Great and informative, and I want one! hahaha. Any plans to try heavier stuff like 90gr smk or 88gr eld-m etc ? Assuming they can stretch it pass 1000?
Do you pull the expander ball up through the neck after it is sized. Or neck expand from the top down after the neck is sized. My measments say pulling the expander through the sized neck does way more case stretching than firing.
@@thelonggunner762 pushing a expander mandrel down from the top instead pulling a ball from insid the sized neck is the main reason case stretching is reduced, not the 40 degree shoulder fairy tale. I have measured case stretch from both methods.
The AI 223 will be close to the factory 22ARC ammo for velocity. The factory loads are at lower AR compatible pressures. The 22ARC has more case capacity and when hand loaded for a bolt gun at higher pressure it will out shine the AI.
The Redding barely touches it, i have a Lee sizing die that bumps it back .002 -.003 that i've been using lately

That should be a good looking setup when you get it together. The Criterion ar barrels I've shot have all been tack drivers.

@stevenmarcus2709 I've been using the MDT polymer mags on mine, because of the case being slightly larger it will only hold 9 rounds
@@thelonggunner762 thank you sir, I’m going too try that.

I've got 3 more projectiles on hand for it. The 80gr VLD, 80gr ELD-M and the 88gr ELD-M.
Great video. I have started a 280 AI project. Do you see less case stretch compared to standard 223 brass?
I've fired them 4 times and still don't need to trim them.

Which dies are you using? I got a Redding bushing 223 40 degree set on sale so I’m starting a similar project?
I've got the Redding set with the standard full length sizer, it was the only one I could find at the time.
@@thelonggunner762how has the Redding die worked for you? Some folks say you need to take a little off the bottom to get a some shoulder bump.

It's been around 2920 fps

@kevinmcgrath That does not fit the bandwagon narrative about accuacy.
I have both the 22 ARC and the 223 AI , The AI outperforms the ARC and uses less powder
is more inherently accurate......
