9:12 speaking as someone who loves My Life as a Teenage Robot, her super is a doubly huge L because not only is it a pretty terrible super by the game's standards, but it's also just a really random pull from the source material, especially considering how much the team loves the moveset (evident by them changing very little from the first game). They had other options that would've been so much better, but I have to wonder if there were higher ups turning potential better ideas down.
For me, Ren and Stimpy is the best because of how beautifully it was animated, and the worst one is Jenny's because she has a lot more potential. I hope the sound issues and maybe some of the visuals will get fixed in future patches.
That I would heavily agree, I would make a minor rant about Jenny's ability as much of a good character, she is. But I'll keep it short. The super is done too quickly, and their was at least another idea or two that could've been shared, and the move was pretty lame compared to all the others
Even with the E rating and any sort of time/budget constraints, I feel like some of these lack some creativity. Out of the hundreds of Spongebob episodes and handful of movies, all they could think of for Plankton was a Self Destruct?
@@zanpakutoman4225 A self-destruct isn't a bad idea for a super, but what ruins it is that right after the explosion, it immediately snaps out of the cutscene and shows him not self-destructed. That's my biggest problem with most of them, the transition from cutscene back to gameplay is way too abrupt, as if the attack in the cutscene never actually happened.
LOL I was thinking the same while watching, but overall I feel like the supers were intended to be silly show references rather than cool supers so I don't mind them being rated for what the game devs were going for
one thing you HAVE to give this game is that it somehow makes the offmodel crazy faces these characters make look really good in 3D, and characters like Jenny, Danny, and Gerald look like they are straight from their show. If Nick made any of those shows 3D you know the models would have less than 20% of the style they do in this game
Somehow I think that the best super for Garfield is one where he doesn't do anything at all, just watches whatever happens happen. A super is meant to represent maximum effort, after all, so what better version of that could there be for Garfield than no effort at all? My vote is for the "TOO MUCH RICE" tidal wave, but any time where Jon screws up and Garfield just gets to watch the dominoes fall is good enough for me.
Speaking of Garfield I still hope that they add in Snoopy From Peanuts as a guest fighter (Since Nickelodeon did air some of the Peanuts Animated Specials) To where we can see who is the better Newspaper Comic Strip Brawler
I do think that, at the moment, the super moves look a bit janky. I saw Hungry Box's video showing them all and the strange lack of sound effects and the amount of lingering some supers have is a bit... weird? Im hoping they'll get an update but otherwise they are pretty cool.
@@ConnardYulie Potentially. I guess in the grand scheme of things, they function and if something had to be kinda janky, it makes sense it was something new. The thing about PSABR's supers is that when you do the level 3 it actually lets the characters shine. NASB 2 feels too afraid to go any further than they already have.
I like that max pointed out he never did a rate the super for PS All stars. As many times he's played it with the yovideogames crew i didnt realize it either. Cant wait for that upload
On the plus side, having the thing that's holding back all these supers being the audio is... probably the easiest thing to fix from a development standpoint. I could see them patching in updated sound for supers much more realistically than I could see them re-animating things or fussing with the pacing of the supers.
It's not just the audio. The camera angles are weak, the transitions between shots are weak, they take you out of the action for several seconds, and the characters kind of just float in the void while action lines run past them. Like 90% of these are basically Byleth's final smash from Ultimate but *worse.* And Byleth's final smash is one of the worst in that game. If you ask me, a lot of these shouldn't have been cutscenes, they should've just had the animations play on the actual stage. I think at least half of them would've been way better if they didn't take you out of the action.
@@aringorski4786 That's more of a general cinematic super problem. The worst part is that I'm pretty sure it's possible to have it both ways: Hype supers to impress the players for the first time they see a character but without breaking gameplay flow. See, they just need a "short supers' toggle in the options. If both players have short supers toggled on you get a 1-2 second super flash into hit animation that's focused on putting you in exactly the same place with the same health that the super would leave you with. Toggled off by default, and when you get tired of seeing supers you can turn it on.
@@aringorski4786another thing i find really aggravating is how nothing serms to happen after the super ends, no explosions, no hurt sounds not even a slow mo, the character just takes damage.

I feel like this game is in an odd kind of situational limbo. Max was right when he observed that since it's based off of kids' cartoons, the developers were obviously going to avoid getting too violent (plus Nick probably had pretty tight control over what they could and couldn't do). At the same time, however, most of the characters in the game are from shows that aired from the late 80s to 2000s, and the people who watched those shows are now in their 30s or 40s, and hardly need their precious little eyes shielded from seeing Garfield punching Danny Phantom in the face. So they're trying to appeal to younger kids who won't recognize most of the cast, while also trying to appeal to Millennials who will be annoyed by the watered-down content.
Speaking of Garfield I still hope that they add in Snoopy From Peanuts as a guest fighter (Since Nickelodeon did air some of the Peanuts Animated Specials) To where we can see who is the better Newspaper Comic Strip Brawler
Think Azula’s should have been when she shoots lightning at Aang’s back with the black and white effect. Hard to think of one for Aang and Korra. Iirc it's a nod to her debut episode minus her hypnotizing students to attack Mr. Lancer .... actually now that I think about it, the super would be better if she actually hypnotized random students to attack the opponent and trample them. Even though it'd be oofers on the animation bill
Legitimately, just have one big ghost deliver a haymaker to launch them out of ghost prison would do wonders for the... jankiness of it. Like, you've locked them in a ghost prison, but because this is a platform fighter the super has to send them flying regardless of if it makes sense from the visual of the super.
Yeah, alongside a spit out animation as if the thermo is overloading for all the beating yer getting and ends up shooting you away Because you just being trapped inside there and then suddenly appearing flying off looks weird as heck
Aside from the sound being messed up I think the characters look weird when they don't react to the supers. They stand in their fighting pose while they're getting hit by the genki dama or the trains. They should at least look dizzy, surprised, or cower in fear.
I forgive them for that, but mostly because that would require a ton of extra animation work. You can't just throw a generic "afraid" animation on everyone because the cast is so wildly differently proportioned from one another. A lot of supers would require a unique animation just for the super. Still, a lot of the animations do suffer from a lack of reaction from the target, the biggest offender being Rocco's.
@@kevingriffith6011 Speaking Of Rocko Still hope that the game adds in these RML character's- Heffer Filburt Mr. Bighead Really Really Big Man Ect..................................
One thing that bothers me is the unnatural transition back from the supers. I think many of these would look a lot better if the cinematic ended at the exact moment the target character gets hit.
I think one of the big lessons to learn from these is that not every super has to be a huge Cinematic. Jenny could have a big beam like Samus, Danny could get a big vacuum attack like Luigi, and Granny could've summoned an actual train on stage to run suckers over And they all would've had more oomph to them because of it
Another complaint about the supers that weren't mentioned is that all of them do base 40% damage. It feels like some of them should do a bit more or a bit less damage than that for the sake of variety, as well as some of them looking like they could be a potential IK at 100% like what Ultimate did.
Fun little note about the supers, specially Aang's, in the spotlight trailer videos for the characters you can actually see a lot of the missing vfx. It's rather odd that the polish in those character trailers isn't present here on full release, but it at least gives me hope that they can work those rough spots out faster and reliably.
8:34 I think that I'd give it an 8/10 if instead of one flying kick they had these weird food homonculi just stomping all over the enemy while they're down. At least it'd be funnier.
They are so, so close to nailing this idea. I love how relatively (relatively!) brutal some of these are for a Nick game, too. Ren and Rocko have my favorites, which warms the cockles of my aging heart.

Now that you mention it, I wouldn't be TOO surprised if the dev team pulled that stunt. They could maybe play it off as a reference to that one scene of that one episode of The Garfield Show where Garfield meets an AU version of himself who randomly turns into a big monster - though, they seem more fond of pulling from Garfield and Friends..
I think April should've gotten a Turtle Van super to reference that one shot from the intro (after running over everyone), giving that to one of the TMNT when the other one just uses his weapon skills and April has a Spirit Bomb feels pretty fuckin' random. And yeah, why the fuck aren't the other TMNT in this?

7:01 and 11:00 really do show off the difference good cinematography can make. They're very similar supers conceptually, a big energy tornado-y thing, but because the first of the two was just so much more well shot we give it an 8/10, while the second is just much more boring to look at.
@@GuitarSlayer136 stinks that the game is still so held back by its presentation. It’s a massive step up from the original game and fixed nearly every complaint people had with 1, but the budget and rushed development is still glaring in a lot of areas. At least it managed to avoid the classic fighting game sin of ‘no single player content’ this time around.
The fact that all of these were cinematic actually harms some of them, since that pause and unpause of the action is jarring, and some supers are just better when they maintain the regular flow of combat. Lucy’s and Azula’s come to mind there.
I know, I hate that they had them both in the last game but not in this one. Seems like something that would be easy to just port over, but for some reason they decided not to. Maybe they had a roster limit and wanted to focus on adding more new characters.
@@LooneyTunesBackInActionWasGood Port over? This game is not just a sligthly upgraded version of the first NASB. They build everything from the ground up, that includes all playable characters. In order to bring a character from the first game they had to rethink they entire moveset (even if some characters didn't change much the devs had to consider possible changes). And then they had to re-do every model. And animate Every Single Frame of Every Single Animation. That's A LOT of effort, and they simply did not have the budget or time to do that for EVERY past character and still add so much more. Like, they could have reworked all veterans from the first game, but in that case we may not have gotten any newcomers. Or different modes. We can hope that Leo and Mikey appear as DLC in 2025 or in NASB 3. But for both cases the devs need more money and time.
@@unskilledgamer3642Yeah, but I think it feels weird because April came back, instead of someone like Splinter or Casey. I just wonder on why April chosen to return over Leo and Micky

She could have even launched you to another planet on a rocket. She’s got so much potential for cool super moves but I gusss they just didn’t have it in the budget?
Jenny has like even the movies to pick from for big attacks shes done, that and all the benders have actual good moves that couldve been pulled, but i guess making those fast enough for a super wouldve made them all look weird. Most of these are like 1 or 2 steps away from being good. They feel like they end early too. I see this the most with Danny Phantom, Garfield, and the benders.
It's really cool that they added Supers and some do need to be fixed. Ren and Stimpy's Super is just Amazing, it is a Great reference from the Show. Reptar, Gerald, Zim, SpongeBob and April's Super Attacks are really Cool as well. Since Mr Krabs is confirmed as DLC, his Super should be a reference to the Episode "Clams" where his opponents are tied up as bait and calls the Clam to eat them.

Azula not using lightning in her ultimate seems weird also to me I feel Korra ultimate is better than Aang ultimate because she use the elements like the Avatar and Aang kind of just waves his hand slightly
The funny thing is that El Tigre's super didn't have to be a Ragnorok/Ultimate Spider. It could've more closely resembled Ganondorf's Final Smash and still be faithful to the source material. Still, the benders were done dirty. Jenny especially feels like she was toned down compared to what she could really do in her own show.
I’m glad everyone universally agrees that Gerald, Reptar, and Ren and Stimpy have the best supers. Gerald’s especially, like god dang they went all in on a classic reference to the series that fits him incredibly well 😂👏👏 Zuko and Iroh are scheduled to arrive as DLC, so hopefully those two have incredible supers to make up for the other Avatar characters 😅
The greatest issue is clearly the sound ): Budget or not, the sound design in many of these is simply off or lacking. The ideas are almost all super cool and I love when they animate the models to do more of that source animation stuff, but the sound does hold all of them back. Big improvement, but still some stuff to be ironed out!
I don't like some of the supers like I think Garfield's should've been him mailing them to Abu Dhabi, him kicking them like what he does with Odie, or a giant pie showing up. Azula should've been her shooting lightning like in Book 2's or Book 3's finale. Jenny's should've been either the laser from the first episode, having her sisters show up, or something from the opening. I think Danny's should've been the Ghostly Wail or the Ecto-Skeleton.
Hell, Garfield's super could have easily been "TOO MUCH RICE!", with him just watching casually as Jon and all of his opponents are swept away in a tidal wave of rice.
They did my XJ9 dirty, what the hell kind of special was that. That one hurt me, with all the weapons she has, she just meditates....really?! This is a full price game and budget looks like beginner dev made it and you can totally tell what show they loved growing up and that's Ren and stimpy
I was shocked to see Ember in, but I'm really disappointed in that super. You'd think her strongest move would be sending a stampede of fans to trample you.
I'm a bit shocked by most of these. On one hand, stuff like Reptar's is very well done, and the humorous references behind the Spongebob's characters' ones are great, but even those fall really flat and without much impact. Squidward's sucks and is only carried by the reference. Plankton's is literally nothing. I can't believe they didn't even use "maximum overdrive." The lack of personality and sound effects in many like the news girl is insane. Ones like Danny Phantom are like... okay, now what? Aang's is completely unfinished as a pale shadow of what I imagine the storyboard would've been. I don't even know what happened to ones like Garfield's.
In my opinion, most of the supermoves needs work or some change cuz they dont look or feel effective and they're too plain. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they put supermoves in this game but i do wish they give spongebob the goofy goober rock as his supermove
These feel EXTREMELY "censor board said no". That's why so many people get hit by cars/trains/elephant ass. It must have been the most most violent thing they were allowed to depict! Like Jenny may normally be fine slicing up her enemies, but since this game makes the enemy other Nick characters with picky IP holders they have to just vaguely imply she's slapchoping them. That's why the tiger kid can Ragnarok: they're just cartoon cat claws. Raphael similar, they're so small and NOT-knife looking that they don't make it look like he's actually shanking Squidward.

Would be interesting if the game was E 10+ or even T. But I sure know that Jenny would be a rated M candidate.
@@Zuxtron Indeed. Maybe if an army of robots turned up and they selfdestructed(but the "main one" didnt), it would have worked better.

one thing you HAVE to give this game is that it somehow makes the offmodel crazy faces these characters make look really good in 3D, and characters like Jenny, Danny, and Gerald look like they are straight from their show. If Nick made any of those shows 3D you know the models would have less than 20% of the style they do in this game
Ren in particular is insane. Basically keyframed each expression as a whole new model.

You can REALLY feel the budget constraint here. Especially in the animation and sound department.
They went super weird with Garfield's super, like they couldn't come up with an idea. Should have just been him mailing his enemy to Abu Dhabi.

For Azula’s special; i was sorely disappointed that they didn’t include her lightning-bending. What a missed opportunity.
Cant wait for that upload
i miss that game
TBH I'm still waiting for him to rate the supers from Street Fighter X Tekken.
We still play all stars in 2023
I'd love to see it. Mostly because I want to see someone talking about Sly Cooper in some capacity again.

Hard to think of one for Aang and Korra. I guess Aang’s Boulder compression bullets would have been cool. Maybe Korra could’ve done something when she’s flying in the Avatar State against Zaheer with the chain.

@@kevingriffith6011 Walker with his book open and closes it and cuts back to gameplay and the character is launched

My big problem with Nick all stars 2 is that there isn’t much impact with all of the super moves. It needs that oomph
Yeah that last hit needs to have some serious impact.
One thing that bothers me is the unnatural transition back from the supers. I think many of these would look a lot better if the cinematic ended at the exact moment the target character gets hit.
I don't really use the super moves anyway. Using my slime meter for ex-moves and cancels for cool combos feels more effective anyway.
Needs good sound design for that. And this game has some of the worst sound design of any game I've seen in the past decade.
They all do the same 40% of damage. Unlike Smash Bros.
I think one of the big lessons to learn from these is that not every super has to be a huge Cinematic. Jenny could have a big beam like Samus, Danny could get a big vacuum attack like Luigi, and Granny could've summoned an actual train on stage to run suckers over
And they all would've had more oomph to them because of it
Norbert's should've been "I'm gonna bop you into last week!"
It fits like a glove
YOU ASKED FOR IT...
Another complaint about the supers that weren't mentioned is that all of them do base 40% damage. It feels like some of them should do a bit more or a bit less damage than that for the sake of variety, as well as some of them looking like they could be a potential IK at 100% like what Ultimate did.
Definitely the problem is pacing in the supers. It doesn't feel like some of these have any impact and it's not helped by the pacing and audio.
Fun little note about the supers, specially Aang's, in the spotlight trailer videos for the characters you can actually see a lot of the missing vfx. It's rather odd that the polish in those character trailers isn't present here on full release, but it at least gives me hope that they can work those rough spots out faster and reliably.
There was a day 1 patch that was supposed to be rolled out but it got delayed, I’m assuming that patch was intended to add that all in.
8:34 I think that I'd give it an 8/10 if instead of one flying kick they had these weird food homonculi just stomping all over the enemy while they're down. At least it'd be funnier.
I feel like a few of these would be more fun to see if done on all 3 opponents as opposed to just one

I hope they get Leo and Mikey back in the game. TmnTdoesn't feel complete without them
I know, I hate that they had them both in the last game but not in this one.

My only gripe with the game is that I wish they kept the roster from the original game and added all the new characters on top of it
I'm actually excited to see Max do Rate the Supers for PlayStation All Stars
Isn't Azula's power move lightning? I'm surprised she didn't strike you with a massive lightning bolt with her super.
Lighting is her down special in the game so I guesss they were trying to avoid using it twice for some reason.

For Aang they shouldve done the scene where him and Ozin are fighting and hes in the avatar state with all the element sswirling around him or when hes doing the tequnique the lion turtle(?) Showed him and theyre fighting over control of who keeps their bending abilities
Why did they do Danny and ember dirty like that lmao
Holy crap, I didn’t know this game had that many characters. Arnold’s grandma? El Tigre! Gerald?! EMBER?!!!!
Man Max was SUPER generous with these ratings
Man, really, all of these have great references like de Jenny one, great attention to detail like the Ren and Stimpy's one, and that goes for almost all of the roster, but what the hell happened to the dudes from Avatar? Or April? Those didn't even look like they're from the same game
