The best bass teaching channel on youtube. Because of the way je teaches. Many bass "teachers" out here knows how to play but know how to teach is another thing . Thank You very much Sir. Greetings from Cameroon
Thanks as always for the great videos Jim. I also love "take your bass out and play it with me!" Forget the 3 minute "shortcut" video, this is the real deal. Pay CLOSE attention everybody. . . .
Jim, Learned Ray`s line and Ron`s bass lines from 2020 and now this one... plus I play them on a Double bass... All thanks to... Y O U! You are an American (real) Star! THANK YOU SIR!
I´m so Happy to find You on youtube. I have been so much better teacher just in a few weeks! Finally I know how to teach them stuff that I have done all the time! I’ll keep on practicing with you and keep on have my students in progress! Thanks from Sweden
Superb. Wonderful teaching method. I love it. I've been playing for 55 years and am learning great things from this great teacher. I thank you so much.
just sat down with my upright bass and took this lesson.. wow. you are a great teacher. it's 1A.M and I'm fired up... we'll see what I remember in the morning.
Just found this. Bought a second hand bass guitar (haven't played in like 10 years) cos I've got lots of free time cos of Corona. It's amazing what one can find online! Very nice video, will play along tomorrow, getting ready to sleep unfortunately
One hell of a bass teacher. I first learned out of a Mel Bay book. Visual like this is much better. Playing both upright , and guitar bass makes an all around solid bassist as you are. Goof for you.
Hi Jim, thanks for another nice exercise. Beside one of the best hints you always give (PRACTICE!) I like how you treat your bass the practical way. I think it's exactly what it should be played like: practically! Not the way that looks good to the audience... To make clear what I mean: too many people shift positions where it's absolutely unnecessary. When one plays a song within a single octave, then usually there is absolutely no reason to shift, IMHO. Or they fill the whole bassline as if they were playing a piano with two hands. I like that you play what you play: a bass.
Jim - Thank you for this lesson… Love PC… I have the Gourlay book and your Secret Chambers … I gotta buckle down one of these days . Your lessons are substantive and focused. Bass on !
I totally dig this line. Only problem I have is that some of the notes seem to rub when I use a jazz blues backing track with the diminished 4 chord and all the 251’s and the 1625 turnaround. I could be overthinking it tho.
Rub is part of jazz. When the backing tracks are not real, they always play too many chords. Trust me, PC knew what he was doing. Yes, you are totally over thinking. Does the line sound good to you? If yes, then play it. If not, move on.
Mr. Chambers, thanks for sharing your knowledge! It is greatly appreciated. Could you share what strings you are using on this bass? Appears to be tape wound. Thanks!
@@billkarmetsky4003 I used tape wounds (Roto Sound) on my Precision. This was back in the mid seventies. They played and sounded nice. Would like to try some again.
Hello Mr. Stinnett I’ve been really working on that foundation you speak a lot about in your lessons . I can play the major scales and triads in different positions and rhythms through the circle of fourths nicely . I fully understand why scales are important but I don’t understand the circle of fourths . i know that’s a good thing. but I am having trouble on understanding theory of why that’s a good thing. Do you have a video on the subject ? Do chord changes always move in fourths ? (I don’t think so) If you know of a video or have any insight it would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Jim, i was looking to upgrade my amp and i was wondering what you would reccomend in terms of a rig that sounds good. Right now i have a fender combo amp and i am just looking for something that sounds a bit better.
Jack, I really don't have a recommendation. I too like the Fender Rumble. If you were wanting to move up much higher, I would recommend Bergantino. They are top of the line gear. Maybe just a bit bigger one of the one you have, although that won't change the quality of sound. Sorry.

Don't worry about it. Theory has no sound in this aural artistic form called music. If it sounds good, play it.
That is the greatest bass lesson one could ever get

Is the accompaniment CD included with the price of the book ?
There is no "accompaniment CD." But, the play-along in the video is a Blues in Bb. Those are easy to find all over the web.

Hi Jim,
Is it ok to play it in fifth position? One finger per fret? It falls right under my fingers that way. I learned it from your book a while ago.
Of course. What ever works well.
Thank you Jim!
It's like a walking bass line only a bit different
