I used to dig Scott's bass lessons a lot more when I was a beginner. Now... The amount of things I learn from your lesson is just astonishing, I know everything Scott is teaching in his videos, but with yours there's a lot more depth, even when you teach "simpler" stuff like in this video. Thank you for giving us all of this!
Without a doubt! Jim takes you where you need to go to be a better bass player, musician and person (exercising persistence with honesty!). Thanks Jim!!!
Like others, I have been on the flashy sites, but Jim, your back to basics approach is best. I played a three note arpeggio over a rhythm over and over, and after about 20 minutes I started hearing it differently, and started hearing other possibilities within that framework. I've been gigging for 55 years and finally I've found the answer to improvement. Thank you sir.
Dear Jim, Thank you! Your format is excellent. These are real bass lessons indeed. It does feel you're watching and it's super fun... I like the fact that you show no tab and we have to figure out the notes listening and/or watching you. I am going to make big progress with your guidance. I take the opportunity to wish you and your circle a Happy Year end and all the best for 2021. Respectfully,
Man Jim... I'm here sitting playing along with you and it feels like I'm actually with you in that room having fun!!! I'm glad I discovered your lessons. You are a God send!!!! Bravo sir.
This lesson is awesome in that it is simple but touches on many important aspects that anyone who aspires to improvise can learn a great deal! Thank you Jim!
I’ve done a ton of this stuff already on my Squier Bass Six, which I partly got to fill the chasm between my bass playing and my guitar playing. You’re making it a whole lot more fun, Jim.
Accidentally I got a youtube suggestion of a FOURPLAY concert today where the 1st tune is a good play alng vehicle for the progression taught in this video (d minor blues basically): th-cam.com/video/xgaziz6H0WQ/w-d-xo.html
Great lesson Jim. Incidentally, I'd love to know what software you use for your play along tracks - having nice sounding rhythm accompaniment makes practicing that much sweeter..
Jim, what do you think of using “looper” pedals for this type of practice.. weaving together three or more parts-bass line, chords, and lead? Does it help or does it detract from “hearing it” with your mental ear?
May I ask what you're amp settings would be.. I can't believe how smooth you're bass playing it.. by the way I wish I had you as a bass teacher years ago. Could watch you all day.. thank you for posting the videos. .
Joseph, the amp settings not relevant. I am playing direct into the computer. That has nothing to do with how smooth it sounds. That is in the fingers.
wow.... ive only been playing for like a year and a half... im gonna play bass in my highschools jazz band (im in 10th grade lmao) and u seem like u know ur stuff so could u recommend me any books or things like that to help me bc ion think im readyyy
Well, most school bands will have notated music so learning to read is very important. Secondly, if your band will perform "jazz songs," you should learn to play a walking bass line. The charts that you get will probably have notated bass lines but there will probably many opportunities for you to play your own walking bass line.
💛💛 RIP Mr. Stinnett - und ganz herzlichen Dank für die großartigen Lernanregungen💛💛
Its unbelievable! It is the most useful lesson I have ever seen before!
Best Bass lessons on TH-cam, IMO.
Thanks, glad you like them. :)

Four notes that I’ve played hundreds, possibly thousands of times have a completely new meaning to me now. Thank you Jim!

I make all my own stuff in Garage band.
Thanks
Hey Jim, very nice lesson and great vibe, thanks.
Say, which strings are you using? Both a fat fundamental yet clear midrange, love it.
These are Labell Black Tape Wound.

Looper works fine for practice of specific elements. For this lesson, you notice I do not use the looper, on purpose. Develop your ears.
@Me, Also Me Correct. ;)
