    I'm from Texas, moved the first time to the South Shore (MA) in the mid-70s and met my future husband. I learned quickly the difference about what we called things in Texas and what New Englanders called things. The first time I ordered a coffee, I was asked if I wanted a "regular" and thinking that meant black, I said yes. Imagine my surprise when I was brought a coffee sweetened and with cream! I too had never heard of American Chop Suey, and I thought it was some kind of Chinese food but turned out to be what we call Goulash. Again, elastic, we called rubber band and what we called a purse, it was called a pocketbook in NE. Don't even get me started on the first time I ordered a milkshake...too hilarious. Even the Boston area people took me a while to warm up to, but now I love New England and can't imagine living anywhere else. Thanks for the great video...take care. 😊🤠😯

      So sweet
      Well I am in texas now for the past 5 years I am from Boston Massachusetts all my life
      Lol so funny everyone will say where are you from
      I still decorated as a new Englander lol
      So much to do in New England
      I miss it. Enjoy

    Your decorated bedroom looks very welcoming for guests. But you are braver than I for providing candles to light...so often others can be a bit forgetful away from their home and leave one burning and then it is goodbye house.

    Love you both! I really, really really, want to move to New England. Waiting to see if I can remain a remote employee, lol. Love the scenery, formality, architecture, history. Linda posted a home for sale, and I told my husband we should just buy it and stop waiting for work to decide!

      I can so relate to desperately wanting to move to New England. We moved here 4 years ago from Michigan, a dream come true and we have NO regrets. We just love it here and love our house. I wish you the best in having your dream come true soon!!

    Yup, here in Michigan we call it Goulash! I had a Victoria Strainer for years. My late Father in Law actually bought it for me one years because My husband planted 48 plants of tomatoes! I gave it to my son as I don't can anymore. Your's looks newer and I noticed it had a guard on it. my old one didn't and the juice would spray all over. Of course my handy Machine repairman husband made one for me and fixed the problem ( gosh he should have pattened that) Your tomatoes look good. If you add green pepper to your juice don't you have to pressure cook that? instead of water bath.

    I'm from Michigan, too, so it's goulash. To put another spin on that is in the Midwest, we also often time add bean to our goulash.
    My mom called it "slop-o-roni" just to make us all laugh. I can't even write it without laughing. 😆

    • @mynewenglandstory
      @mynewenglandstory  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, I've had it with beans also. Slop-o-roni is hilarious! I wonder if sloppy joe's is a midwest thing? I'll have to ask my friends out here. Also, I will say I miss a good coney dog. Here they do a "chili dog" and the buns are basically a piece of white bread folded with a flat bottom. However, the seafood is INCREDIBLE! Thanks for watching!

    Carla, talk about different names for the same thing, my Squeezo is your Victorio. Squeezo is made in the USA, is all metal, trademarked and has been made since the early 1900s. We bought it at the Vermont Country Store back in the 1970s when I started canning.

    Love the walk thru the woods with the dappled sunlight!!!! Hearing the crunch of the gavle under foot... like I was walking with you. But i would probably be doing a lot more huffing and puffing!!!! I am 72 and have never heard of American chop suey!!! I live in California and just call it a casserole with meat sauce. So enjoyed seeing you and Linda together. Just watched her video this morning! Your guest room is so charming. The bed is gorgeous. Your husband is so talented. As a reader, I would love to find a basket of books and brochures waiting for me! The little maple candies on the pillow is so cute. I was just thinking this morning, that I need to start checking the stores for those Maple leaf cream filled cookies. They are seasonal and just make my fall cup of coffee extra special.

    Hi Carla, your canning brought back lots of memories of when my mom and I would do this many years ago. I think we used something called a mill or sieve that had a handle that you turned. In the mid-Atlantic I've always called it Hungarian Goulash. I do have one of those Victorian Strainers but it's just called a tomato press. Love your channel. I love New England especially the architecture and openness. I'll be heading up to Maine next Monday to spend two week at a friends camp on the pond. I can't wait.

      Interesting, what I call Hungarian Goulash is more of a stew (stew meat not hamburger) but the key ingredient is Paprika. Isn't is fun learning different terms we use throughout this Country. Enjoy your vacation, two weeks is wonderful!
