- This is part 1 in a series where I react to your mouse cages, offering advice of things you could add or change, and being impressed by your setups! Thank you to everyone that sent in their cages, unfortunately I was unable to feature them all otherwise this video would be hours long! I will be filming a part 2 at some point, I have also filmed my reaction to your rat cages too: bit.ly/2PP2JM6
These videos were inspired by Rebecca at Leopard Gecko.

I love how you're so positive and kind about everybody's caged, even the ones that arent perfect. Its really refreshing to see :)
Right!
I think a big problem in the pet community is: Yes, information is constantly being updated... However, sometimes people are scared to ask how to improve... I've seen sooo many people attacking each other over pet care. No one's setup is going to match up to the space or stimulation animals get in the wild- However, their is always more we can do to improve their lives in captivity. I mean, of course there are also people who simply do not wish to update their care or truly care about their pets... However I have seen a lot of people who really do care, and are scared of feedback
People are quick to be mean, ur right, it is refreshing ...also educational!
i agree, i felt guilty for not buying a huge cage like all the youtubers, but seeing these cages makes me feel a lot better. my cage is decent sized dont worry but its just that i dont want to dissapoint my pets you know, even tho i cant do a bigger cage atm
I got a rat a wait 5 years
Seeing how you are so nice even when the cages aren't ideal is so nice
I like playing "spot the mice" in all the cages lol
Haha me too!
Still easier than the game of "spot all the dart frogs" that my local reptile shop likes to make me play XD
I never win.
to anyone having trouble with getting your parents to understand, I've been in that place personally, do your own research and write it down, with sources, share it with your parents and talk with them one on one about proper husbandry and animal health, offer to do extra chores and help around the house in exchange for the things you need for your pets, make it clear your serious and just want what's best for them. My parents started out being the sort who would just buy the cheap and easy stuff, but with my help they now understand that animals are not cheap, our cats and my dog are insanely spoiled (my dog is worst lol, 6lb raw food for $30, and $35.99 for 9lb dry food to start out, lots of treats and toys as well and he's a large dog -56lbs and growing- plus his kennel -which I intend to expand- and a insulated doghouse my dad is building so that he can get out of the weather but still enjoy roaming in his kennel from time to time when he isn't inside the house with me.)
basically just keep trying and reasoning with them, when they see that your just genuinely trying to provide good care they will be more willing to help
I made my mum a slide show and a whole speech and she still said no
Amy’s channel ! :(
I got a rat without my mom knowing and when I told her she said no but then I told her id get a job and she wouldnt have to pay for him... She said yes and i put in a resume and they told me to come back and check next week
Edit: i got the job and now my rat has a great cage with lots of bedding
Edit: this was so long ago lmao. i feel like a completely different person. Soon after i got my first cage i got my rat boy a friend, then did more research and got another same age so the babys brain would develop correctly. I upgraded my cage 3 times until i bough my current DCN and got another rat a month younger than my youngest. I got laid off from work due to corona and started babysitting/pet sitting and would watch kids aged 5-10 from 8am to 6pm. That is still how i provide for my 4 rats, 2 cats, and the family dog.
I did that with my mom, and I get paid for jobs in Mouse Food and Bedding.
My three mice used to be in a 20 gallon tall after two weeks nonstop talking about a forty gallon breeder they got it now my mice are super happy they have a water bowl and a water bottle two food bowls and every other day they get fruits and vegetables they have hanging toys two wheels ones 10 inches one is a saucer that is 7 inches and theres a bridge going across the entire thing that have paper based bedding that’s 6 inches so they can burrow
Thank you so much for reviewing my cage as well! Like you said, it's been a little over a month since I've sent the pics and I already have the said items in his tank along with a coconut hide with a ladder attached, toiled paper tubes, another hide and much more bedding than before. I also fixed the lid and attached some wood on the sides so it's more secure and stable. He's super happy and thanks you for all the nice things you've said about his home! ^w^
Furthermore, I want to add even more stuff for him to do and explore as time goes on as well as a dig box. Already ordered some coconut soil (I don't recall how it's called) and meal worms ^^

She’s so nice, I love her feedback and how she gave advice and ideas literally to everyone, she’s a good speaker
To the person with the 10 gallon aquarium I can tell you that telling your parents that they need a bigger enclosure and it is bad to keep them in this. I don’t have mice but I did this with my hamster and my parents agreed to get a 650 square inch cage (the new minimum in the US). I also haves never watched this channel before but you are the sweetest person and weren’t rude to anyone with to small of a cage.💕
I wish I had the last cage for my 3 mice 😂
it's just Kai hello! I know it’s been a while, but I really want a mouse and I have a 20 gallon long tank. I’m planning on getting one Male mouse. Would this be ok?
@@sherylkim2594 for one male mouse a 20 gallon tank would be fine. The minimum is 10 gal. As long as they have plenty of hides and things to climb on!
Abigail Lyttle but twenty Gallons is better than ten as ten is extremely small🙃
idk 10 is okay for feeder mouse buck... 20 is better though
xBree Gaming yes a 20 gallon long is good. Technically the minimum is 10 gallons but that is way too small In my opinion
ive been craving some soft friends for ages and my local rspca has like 500 seized mice up for adoption so im doing my usual aggressive research. planning out a DIY cage to maximize space within my house and enrichment. these kind of videos always give me a strong idea of what to keep in mind for designs
Lol totally relate to the aggressive research
You can get the cerqmic frog hides from amazon in the small animal section!
The diy large cage is amazing I want to build one it’s so nice
I did and it seemed just as bad a an aquarium set up...stuffy, even w two windows and caught alot of condensation...I ended up using mine as an add on to the wire cage and live plant terrarium ...just my personal experience. 😊
Jowan Klein act hood-liked (ya dig?)
CVX Ultra Nope.
It’s not diy I have the same one its the pawhut cage and they sell it on amazon :)
Wow some of the cages in this video were soooo nice. I wish I could get my mice an upgrade! Too bad I didn't know about this till now, otherwise I would've added my mouse cage too. Great video :)
Loved this video! Your rat videos are my favorite (started doing my own rat videos last week cuz of your great videos) but I really do enjoy this type of format, checking out your subs cages. Hope you do a reptile one soon!
hey you can use those adhesive wall hooks in aquariums/glass enclosures! theyre graded by weight (so you can use them for many animals, and in bin cages too). you will inevitably need to replace them, but they are very cheap and pretty durable!
I like glass cages, you have the entire top of cage to get into cage and it just looks better in my opinion butttttttt wire cages you can add more!
There are cages that fit on top of aquariums to turn this into a 2-story house. Gives the mice double the space but takes up no more room on the table or wherever the tank is.
Tank toppers?

I’ve had my male mouse Flash for about two weeks and I look up to your videos!x
I love how emi does CONSTRUCTIVE criticism and doesn’t go ‘ohhh noooo, ohhhhhh’ like other pet youtubers, I still love them but I feel like they could be nice and firm instead of being a little bit scary and disssapointed
I saw a lot if these types of videos and yours seems to be the best ones at making awesome enclosures~ maybe coz you're so good at explaining stuff! What can they do for the mice, their needs, entertainkent and diy toys for em...
Lol, I was wondering what my mouse was doing, and was wondering if something was wrong with her... when you mentioned popcorning I looked it up and lol that's exactly what she was doing! You should make a video about what popcorning is so that new mouse owners like me can know what's going on with our mouse lol!
They need 120x50x50 cm
Its the best to get 4 mice or more because they are social animals and have to live in groups
@@kohlenhydrat2665 In my country the minimum is 200sq in for up to 3 mice, I have two in a 320 sq in cage (two is the minimum for females)
Hey i watched this video with the intention to buy a mouse cage with bars not super big, but i saw the first cage and was like woahh i could make that myself too. I was looking on google for other examples and then i found this cage as an ad and bought it. You both changed the lives of my mice :)
What kind of mice would you say for a loud house hold?
Aw I love your new background! Xx
Great video. I love seeing other peoples cages for ideas. I have 3 female rats and a lot of mouse things go for rats. Thanks for the great tips on the cages.
Yayyy i was waiting for this !! i love this and you inspired me to get a mouse & a couple rats 🙂

I love that you're reviewing the cages! It is very inspiring. I want a mouse but don't know how to ask my parents
I have learned that compiling large amounts of research and presenting it to your parents is the best way to convince them. English really does eventually pay off!😂
Damn it I got my boi on Sunday wish I saw this earlier! 😂

I got two rats last week. They are amazing!
What cage do you have? I know this is a year later but I’d really appreciate it! I’m thinking of getting 2-3 rats. Thank you!

Amazing Video most of the cages were beautiful!
I think it was the 'reacting to my subscribers Rat cages' that made me aware of you. I loved that video and this one and I don't even have mice or rats!
Really enjoyed! Can u do guineapig cages xxx
She doesn't currently have any guinea pigs
nobody important little adventures just did 2 of these videos a few weeks agot
I don't think she will due to her not owning guineapigs, as im guessing she hasnt done that much research on them, therefore doesnt know what there cage should be like xx
How do people afford to get all this stuff to go in there and still make it look amazing! I’m so jealous 😍
I gew up having mice, hamsters and rats. I currently have a gerbil but I'm going back to mice when he passes (I have one because his buddy died) mice have always been my favorite. I'm doing some research because I'm realizing our care wasn't the best when I was a kid. It was the 90's and we just didn't have access to videos like this.
There just doesn’t seem to be as much for rats in the uk as there is for mice so quite a lot of the cute little huts wouldn’t fit them so my cages end up being full of plain cardboard houses. So hard to theme a rat cage!
This is such a great video! Love this.
I always watch you when I’m not feeling good because your videos and the animals calm me down. 🥺🌸🖤
I don't even have nice but I still love these videos . It's really nice to educate myself on all sorts of animals , and I enjoy , ur videos have helped me learn so much ! So thankyou
This video is super helpful. I never thought to get more then one water fish or wheels unless I was getting 4+ mice. I'm thinking of getting just two little girls at the moment, will be sure to give them their own dish and wheel.
Awe man I missed putting in my picture
the third one has a huge wheel thats really good! the others first two had rather smaller wheel… 20cm is purrfect ❤❤❤
NO I SHOULD HAVE PARTICIPATED AHAHAHGSGSGWGWH IM so MAD AT MYSELD
I love this idea so much, and I love your open honesty with everyone!!!
Do you think you would react to hamsters/guinea pigs next?
Nope, as I don’t own either of these animals ☺️
my mice have everything they need, love, affection, friends, playtime out of the tank, but these cages blow me away! i have a 20 gallon glass tank, im a bit Skeptical of the wired cages since I've seen one of my mice climb through the wire when I wasn't looking at her I'm not sure if they're easier to clean, more convenient or maybe there something that I just don't know but I'd like to take my mask to the next level and maybe even a wired cage would work please let me know what you think!
I wish somebody would so this for hamsters! It's such a creative idea, but I only have a hamster. Anyways love u!
That’s exactly what I was thinking!
Victoria Raechel did 🙂
Theres alot of that with hamsters
Victoria raechel did it. There are many others I just can’t think of them off of the top of my head. Just search reacting to my subscribers hamster cages, and it should come up
@@maddierose131 yeah but compared to the super cool mice habitats in this vids, alot of the times people just submitted terrible cages so Tori would have to just keep repeating 450 sq inches, wheel is too small, not enough bedding... etc. And so we don't get to see much cool hamster enclosures
My 4 mice are very creative. I built a nesting box for them to live in and they decided that they would build a burrow underneath it and live there.
I know you only had them when you were younger but do you think a braided fleece/ tshirt material rope could be good in a gerbil cage? I have a lot of vertical space & figure the more enrichment the better
I've got a question would it be stressful for mice to be moving house to house every week in the same cage?
I won’t be able to get mice for 18 months to 2 years (maybe even longer if I’m not in the position to look after rats and mice at that time) but I love love love your mice videos anyway! I can’t wait to get a little colony of females!
For people on the USA, prevue model 528s are really good!
Please please please do another one of these! Even if I dont own mice, ( I love them tho ) I love watching these videos
when I was little I had three pet mice and I still remember to this day the most angry i have ever been was when one of my new friend put my mouse in a mouse ball before spinning the ball across the room an throwing the ball agents the wall. the mouse was traumatized, and guess what? that person never came near to my house again and never came near me either. I couldn't believe that someone would be so carless and crule to the poor incent mice.
The first cage I used to have for one my rats! He was a rescue and would attack (and kill) other rats so needed his own separate one. Filled it with hides and lots of shredded paper so he’d feel safe. His name was Ben
Seeing the crittertrail made me cry AMERICAN PET SHOPS STOP SELLING THESE TINY CONTRAPTIONS
I know its a bit late but, i love your mouse videos! I'm considering getting a mouse, and these are very helpful. You should make more videos like this. :D
Well for me I want to get the preview 528 cage for my mice and is it okay if I can add some of my old hamster supplies as a wheel and some Cork logs for my mice
As long as you wash them it’s okay! I also recommend the large 50x100x50 bucatstate cage (I am using it at the moment!❤️)
Wow them cages are so good looking and really busy for the mice! How do I send a photo of my rats cage?
The first cage is a paw hut :)
That frog hide is from the dollar store btw it comes with a sponge ❤️
Amazing video i really like the idea mabey make a part 2 ?❤❤
if you want mice, but ur parents say no. then this is what i did to convince them from a strong no way, into them willing to drive an hour to get them
1. prove it isn't just a phase, its important so they know you wont get bored of them. it took me 6 months of asking.
2. know the stuff, do a lot of research
3. tell them u will do everything yourself, i.e cleaning, feeding, bonding
4. if they say no, respect the reasons why and try to find solutions
hope this helped
I was wondering how and where you get those big cages :>
Be careful what branches you use (as well as sterilising them) some have toxic bark and rodents like to chew. I was recommended fruit tree branches when I had my pet rats because of this.
Im so happy i have a one male named ash and he use to live in a small 10 gallon and yesterday i went to walmart got a huge bin cut the top and but the net cover from the 10 gallon covering it i rlly want to get him more climbing stuff but i just saved up all that money to get him that bin cage and i think he likes it the only problem is its huge and like in the middle of my room lol
The cage that my mom gave me for my mice is really more tall than it is wide, so I feel like due to watching your previous videos about 20 I should know about mice I might get a little crafty with popsicle sticks and make a second level for them that way they can run around more
They’re really adorable though and I plan on breeding them as pets
@@camaracarothers3782 if youre planning on breeding them please do a lot of research its a lot more difficult than you might think, xx
My mice sugar and spice are so cute they never argue over toys and if 1 of them is on the wheel the other will get on as well and run together.
my mice have one wheel and they like it (ik this because i had two in it for awhile and they just slept in the other one) they like to both run on it and then one jumps off then they stop and do it again
Hi 👋 I was wondering if you could talk about maximizing your cage I have a 29 gal for my 3 girls im getting in march but i feel its very hard to get enough enrichment into the cage
i love how much 'tude she has with her hand movements
Adopted my first mouse a couple days ago, and last night I saw little bugs wiggle in his hair..
do you think mice could live in a double critter nation like rats, but you could just cover up the cage with wire mesh so they can't escape?
if i get young mice will bar spacing 1cm be too big?
How would you go about sterilization of branches?
ricola semien boil them, bake them and also scrub them with mild soap and warm water :)
th-cam.com/video/1Gyq6qRflvw/w-d-xo.html this might help too!
I feel bad for kids who know about good pet care but are stuck with parents who don't. It's always heartbreaking to see kids trying to convince unwilling parents to upgrade their animal's set-up after they learn more about the pet.
Same, it’s heartbreaking. Also parents who refuse to take the animals to a vet and their children have to watch their pet die a slow death, it’s awful. I wish more parents realised that when they bring an animal in their home, as long as their children are under 18 they’re legally responsible for these animals and that means providing them with everything they need.
Um I am getting a cage from online like it will prop pop up first if you type up mouse cages but it does not look like those O I just want to know if that will still be okie
Hey so I have a 20 gallon tank for my three females, with a big tunnel system leading to another smaller barred cage that they cant escape from, they seem happy but we have had them for three weeks and they are still very skittish and hide in there tunnels when I try to touch them. Any tips?
I enjoyed watching this video though. It gave me more ideas though!

Can you do a video on how bad Crittertrail cages are for mice? Mine are stuck in one and my mother wont let me make a bincage because she thinks they have plenty of space
The first one is a cage from Amazon. I hav the same one for my Male Syrian hamster. I just took out all th levels
Straight after watching this vid i switched doors on my BARRY such a good idea thankyou
I used to have mice but they died a couple years back :( my mom said they were “nasty” I was sad bc I didn’t have a companion for a while but soon I got a hamster and very happy :D
Can the Critter Nation add-on unit be used as a cage on its own?
I'll be getting rats within a few months, and since the single unit is more commonly sold second hand than the add-on, I'm wondering if I can just get the add-on, and keep them in there until I find a cheap used single unit somewhere to stack it on...
(End goal is a double critter nation.)
I think the add on comes with a hole in the bottom floor so you just have to cover that up until you get the single one
@@catmaddysmom I asked the same question on Shadow the Rat's channel. She told me the add-on comes without a roof, since they assume you already have a roof from the single unit. So buying the add-on unit is not a good idea unless you're capable of building your own DIY roof.
Hope this helps anyone else who might be considering this.
where did u get your cage from because I can only find very small cages and if I got a fish tank the lid doesn't have enough air going through the cages (in my opinion) and I really like the lid you have and I love the glass instead of the bars and if I is homemade then pls do a tut on how to make it cuz it looks amazing. thx
I have 3 female mice their names are cheddar, feta,Brie cheddar is black and white feta is grey and white and Brie is orange and white I have them in a big tub
A word of caution on the little bird houses: please be careful using them! I had a male mouse a few years ago named Sukoshi and he had one of those houses. I was checking on him one day and couldn't find him in his usual places. Unfortunately he was stuck inside the bird house, he had had a heart attack (edit* he died from heart failure, not a heart attack. He was an old little dude) and couldn't get himself back out and due to the really poor access I couldn't reach in to get him out. Unfortunately by the time we managed to break the house open to get him out, he had passed away. Please be aware of this possibility. I would recommend removing the top and finding a new way to attach it on so in case of an emergency you can get the top off to access your mouse. I know this isn't the reason Sukoshi died and he likely would have passed regardless, I just wish he could have been safe with me instead of terrified inside a little wooden box as a group of 3 people tried to break him free. He could have had a much more peaceful death.
What if you fill it up with bedding

I’m thinking of getting a fancy mouse
I've given up on getting my ratties to go on their wheel. It's 12", but they're terrified of it. :/
Most rats generally dont use wheels
Its ok if they don't use it you can just take it out cause it takes up space 🤣
I didn't get a chance to send a pic of my mice's cage, but I have a question.
My 4 mice live in a 53cm×36cm×46cm diy cage made out of a 40l storage bin and a cage topper. They have 3 inches of hemp bedding, a 20cm wheel, a double decker hammock and 2 fabric tubes, a lot of things to climb on (branches, a rope, parrot toys, ledges etc.), a tunnel system, three hides (one is underground) and one of those wooden train toys.
I've put in as much things as possible so they have a lot to do in the limited space, but is it too small regardless? Is It suitable?
Which parts of that are the length x width? I usually go for cages that are no smaller than 60x40cm as a guide 🙂
@@Emiology oh, the 53×36cm is the width and length. I've only had them for a couple months and I've been thinking of getting/making them a bigger cage for a while, but I'll look into it more seriously now. It is definitetly over the minimums here, so I thought it would be fine. I'm glad it's not awfully too small and they luckily don't show any signs of stress, but I'm sure they'd be happier in a bigger cage. :)
It sounds like they have plenty of things to do! I personally think the minimum in most countries needs upgrading, I like to think that mice deserve a similar minimum to hamsters as they're so active! If you think they'd be happier in a bigger cage it's definitely worth it! Mine were in a cage much bigger than the minimum but since upgrading them still their behaviour has improved so much! :)
@@Emiology yeah, I agree, the minimums definitetly need changing. I'm in a mouse facebook group and many people actually keep single males in just the 40l storage box I have on the bottom (it's about half the height of my whole cage). I don't under stand how they're going to climb anything, especially if they have the proper amount of bedding.
One that one girls cage, the one with the mice that won’t run on the small wheel, did y’all see the Elmo thing in the corner?! Lmao
