- This tutorial shows you how to create beautiful and easy wood slice artworks using watercolour.
You will need:
- wood slices
- watercolour (Schmincke)
- white primer (Winsor and Newton)
- fine liners (eg Micron pens)
- mat varnish (Winsor and Newton)

Can I use a less expensive primer? Maybe something from a hardware store or hobby lobby?

Some advise to use sandpaper after applying primer.... is that true???
I've never tried sandpaper but I can definitely see how that would be useful. If you try it, please let me know if it helps!

Is white primer mandatory? Can i use water colours on wood slice directly without primer??
I would say it's highly recommended as the watercolors might be absorbed differently if you go straight to the wood. It might be a matter of style too though, so do try it out without primer if you don't have it and let me know what the results are!
