I'm completely brand new to watercolor. I took a small class at our library and found your channel today thankfully. I just absolutely love you and your personality. Thanks fod making it understandable for this newbie.
You can get translucent ground as well. I find it best to apply with a roller in thin coats. The Watercolour takes quite a bit of time to dry and I find it very different than paper. Way less water works so much better. I use it on canvas.
Yes! I already have all the supplies I have just never opened my watercolor ground yet! I have never seen anyone put it on that think! I LOVE it!❤️ I cannot believe how much better it works with the Watercolor ground apply thicker!!! I will be doing this right away! You just wouldn’t believe how HAPPY I am that I saw this video today! Your ornaments turned out absolutely beautiful! Thank you!❤️
@@KristyRice YES! It works much more Beautifully than I have ever seen! That’s why I am so excited to make some! I checked and mine is transparent so I ordered a big tub of it last night in the titanium white! Do you think I could separate some of it into a different container and add color to it? That way I could have a colored background?
@@KristyRice it is addictive. I did it for well over 3 years. You can also use the burner on watercolor paper either hot or cold pressed 140lb or higher works best.
Looks like fun! 😃 Never heard of that coating product, great tip! Thank you. I just bought wooden coasters. I was planning to use Derwent Inktense directly on the wood, but now I want to try this product with watercolour!!😊🌈🌸
@Paintcrush with Kristy Rice that would be exciting. Give plenty of notice. I'm in NM so fingers crossed for TX, CO or AZ. No one comes here for tours lol.
Do you seal these with anything? We're doing gift card Christmas so everyone can get what they want when the supply chain settles down. These will be a perfect addition!!
Instead of water color ground ( cause i dont have any and want to use what i have …. 😉) will white gesso work?? I saved my christmas tree slices from when we trimmed our tree.
Hey it worked!!!! Prolly not ideal but i had one tree slice and just enough white gesso to cover one tree slice and i used my mozart komorebi paints. Wish i could show you. 😀
Anyone ever paint watercolor on wood? Will you try?
I tried but didn't turned out well. Now I will again try with this solution which you have used

Great! I have been watching your ceramic series and Kelly referred me here when I asked about wood. Really fun stuff Kristy!
Oh wonderful!! XO

@@dawnreaume2837 let me know how it goes!!!
I was a pyrographer ( wood burning) and used watercolor pencils all the time. Always was a cool project
Oh so fun!!!!
@@KristyRice it really is a lot of fun.

Wow! What a fantastic idea! These came out so lovely! Thanks for sharing the inspiration!
Merry Christmas!
You are very welcome!!!
These are so lovely ❤️ I have some wood slices left over from making my class gifts a couple of years ago… now I know what to do with them 👍
Oh, good!

Thank you!! You can also definitely work right on the wood, just gives a different look!
Love these! I would use some gold and/or silver metallic pens for a little sparkle.
Oooh smart woman!!!!
more please
Hi Kristy! I looked thoroughly on your Amazon list but can’t find the supplies?
Do you ever have in person workshops? Curious where you are based?
Rarely but I’m considering doing a mini tour in late 2022. I’m in PA… but would likely do Philly, Ca and somewhere in the middle, lol!
@Paintcrush with Kristy Rice that would be exciting. Give plenty of notice. I'm in NM so fingers crossed for TX, CO or AZ. No one comes here for tours lol.
Were there holes in the wood to loop the string? If not how did you attach the string? These are awesome.
The holes came pre-drilled :)

You can give them a light spray of a final fixative or even a non yellowing polyurethane spray but it's not 100% necessary...

It could work… you won’t get the full watercolor effect as I fear the dried gesso will resist the watercolor a bit… but worth an experiment!
@@KristyRice cool. Thanks for the info. Its what i have so i think i will try. Let you know. 🌻

@@windicaree oh nice!!! Are you on insta? Or email me a photo! hello@kristyrice.com
@@KristyRice i am on insta. I will look.
Also wanted to ask if you used anything to seal it with?
Can this be painted onto a canvas?
Absolutely! Would be awesome!
Kristy, there is no detail in the description about the QOR product for pasting on wood to make it usable for watercolors
The link to the ornaments and the watercolor ground is under the PAINT section :)
