  • Hello my Friends!! 🌹✨ I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend!
    I thought it would be fun to play with Shards today and see what kind of interesting effects we can produce! 🤗 This technique opens up a whole new world of color application and design possibilities for both hard and soft glass! ….So many, that I will be following up with part 2 next week! 💫 The application is super easy and no two are ever alike. These beautiful abstract designs are a welcome departure for me as I am so used to trying working on precise patterns.
    I am obsessed with the results and I hope you are too! 😂👋🏽
    ✨✨You will need a small blowpipe for this technique…. I am using a 1/4” (6mm) Stainless Steel tube as miniature blowpipe. They are easy to make from tube stock, but you can also find them online. I saw some similar ones on Etsy recently or you can google - ’lampworking blowpipes’. ✨✨
    Cheers- Robin 🌈🙏🏽💫
    Colors- all of the beads in the final pictures use these 3 colors…
    Black Intense 591066-06
    DH Triton
    Ivory 591264

    Very fun to do spontaneous beads after so many very precise techniques. Thanks Robin for the playfulness. Flattening the bead is the real inspiration. Like a canvas.

      Hi Vicki! 🤗🌹Thanks so much! It was fun to make something abstract! ✨💫 I’ve always had a hard time with abstract ideas….I always want to add more glass than needed and end up with way too much going on! 😂 I was so happy with this one….it has a good balance with the background color showing just enough! 😍 Yea!! 😂 Cheers to you- Robin 🙏🏽💫🌹

    Wonderful effects using the reactive glass. The possibilities are endless using transparent glass and lots of layers. I love the abstract quality of your beads. All of them are my favourite 😁❤️. Can’t wait to see what else you do with shards.

    This is just what I have been wanting to try. I have been looking at blow pipes for quite a while. Now is the time to get one and try this.Thanks for getting in my head! Just an aside-in my garage I found my old (I'm 76 years old )wooden wagon with wooden alphabet blocks. Now I can have some on my work table just like my teacher. LOL

      Hi Leslie! 🌹✨I’m so excited for you to try making shards! I’ve been playing with them ever since the first demo.😅 You made my day today when I read that you found your wooden alphabet blocks!
      I love having special items by my torch for good luck! 💫 The blocks also help me to separate each demo from one another so they are easy to pick out in my GoPro camera later on! 🌹✨🌹So happy you enjoyed!! Thanks for sharing!!🙏🏽🌈 Hugs to you- Robin 🥰👋🏽🌹🌹🌹

      Hi Robert! 😂🌹 Many Thanks!! I’m so happy you have your annealer!! I love my Chilipepper!
      I have 2 now…just in case I need to fix one! I hope you get your torch soon so you can use it…There is nothing sadder than a lonely annealer!🙏🏽😅 Do you have a specific torch in mind?
      Cheers my friend- Robin 🌈🌹✨

    It's been ages since I played with shards. And I have a nice little stash just waiting for me. The Double Helix gave a nice watercolor effect. So cool. Nice way to stretch those expensive reduction glasses.

      Hi Linda! 🤗🌹 I don’t know why I didn’t think of making these before 😅 ….and now that I have made about a dozen different shards, I need more storage space! 😂 The potential of this technique is overwhelming!!! ✨💫✨ There is so much to explore here…. The triton is amazing as a shard!! I was just beginning to realize how much it changes depending upon how many layers are built up with it. I will definitely use it again!
      Many Thanks Linda, Glad you enjoyed!! Cheers- Robin 🥰✨🌹🌹

    Hi Robin, I can’t believe that I haven’t encountered your videos until now. I make blow pipes using stainless steel hollow chopsticks by grinding off the ends. Since they are tapered on one and you can vary the size of the blowhole depending on how far up you grind the chopstick tube.

      Hi Susanne!! 😍🌹🌹 I just want you to know that you are not alone…I also experience periods of makers block. It can be frustrating and super depressing. There are even times when I am afraid of never having another good idea again! 😵‍💫 I’m surprised to hear that your land is still covered in snow…omg! I hope Spring comes soon for you my friend…and that with it brings new ideas, inspiration and excitement in your creative mind!! 😍✨✨✨🌹

    Oh blowing shards are quite fun. I see you are having fun. Oh so many recipes to try. Sorry but I listened twice and can not see when you used triton? Your blown piece I thought you said intense black same as the stringer? Did I miss hear? Thanks. Look forward to next week. 💕💐🌟

      @scottwoodresearch  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello Maria! 🤗🌹 So sorry….I forgot to mention that the Second Bubble I blow out is the Triton! It is also the first shard I pick up before adding the smaller intense black shards The stringer is also intense black. I knew I was forgetting something!😂✨ Thanks for asking! ….and yes, so many recipes! Omg….so exciting!! 💫 Cheers my friend - Robin 🌹🌹🌹

    Hi Robin, Great job on these shard beads! Can’t wait to try DH with them! I understand from one of your responses above that your were surprised by the colors: does that means that it continues to change color in the kiln, well after the reduction then? In that case, when do you know that you have sufficiently reduced? Thanks!

    • @scottwoodresearch
      @scottwoodresearch  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hello Sonia! 🥰🌹 Thanks so much!! I’m not an expert on using the double helix colors…😞 😂
      I just reduce a few times on each side and cross my fingers!😂😆😂 I was surprised at how the colors tend to develop in the annealer…My annealer is set to 1000 degrees (that is on the high end but I also use it for a garage and need it warmer)
      I couldn’t tell what it was going to look like when it was still hot! 😅✨
      It could be the torch I’m using? Propane/oxy??? Im going to keep researching these DH silver colors. They are magic!!…I’ll let you know what happens! 😍🙏🏽 Hope you are doing well!!
      Cheers- Robin ✨✨🌹🌹🌹

      @kellytomic5372 Hi Kelly! 🤗✨ I’m into these shards!! I have made a lot of them over the past few weeks. I don’t even know what colors I used anymore and have put them all in one bin because I didn’t want to deal with organizing them…. It’s like a mystery bin now! 😂 Have a great week!👋🏽🌹

    Wonderful as always, Robin! Quick question: Did I see that there was bead release inside of your blow pipe? And if so, wouldn't that clog it up and block your ability to blow?

    • @scottwoodresearch
      @scottwoodresearch  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello Ronda! ✨🌹 Thank you! So happy you enjoyed!! 🥰 I only have 2 of these mini pipes and sometimes I will use them for beads in the middle or work off the ends. I did try to clean it a bit and made sure that the hole was open before I tried blowing! 😅 ….that is most important!!👍🏽✨✨
      (I was wondering if anyone noticed!😂) Cheers to you- Robin 🌈🌹🌹🌹👋🏽

      Hi Colleen! 👋🏽🌹 Thanks for asking…. These are made out of 1/4 inch (6mm) stainless steel tubing. I cut them at 12 inches long. If you don’t want to make your own, you can also find them online. I noticed that someone sells these on Etsy. I googled- ‘lampwork mini blowpipe’ and found them.
      So glad you enjoyed this demo! 🙏🏽✨✨ Cheers- Robin 🌈🌹🌹
