I sang in operas with Giacomini: and his incredible musicality was indeed one of the greatest facets of this incredible voice: you were riveted by his performance from the first notes!.

A voice of great nobility. There is no one today who is capable of this kind of singing. And by the way, who cares what he looks like? I get very tired of this TV mentality about opera singers--it hasn't led to any particularly wonderful singing, has it?
There are literally no tenors today who have such richness, power and beauty of tone as Giacomini. None with such pure dramatic quality. It is impossible to cast dramatic opera any more with the current crop of lightweight tenors around. They all sing in their nose and with little or no pharyngeal ringing tone. This technique seems to have been lost. 50 years ago, there were many tenors capable of singing dramatic roles. Now, all we get is Mozart tenors strangling through big repertoire.
A great voice is one with full, ringing resonance. Giacomini's wonderful voice encompasses all that and more. It is refulgent with feeling, passion and masculinity, aside from having a fabulous round tone. Most singers today never access the full capacity of their voices, having been taught to sing so forward and nasal. The deeper, rounder and richer resonances lie dormant in their voices.
If he had had the looks to match his heroic-sounding voice then guys like me would have known who he was before finding him on You-tube. That's a hell of an impressive instrument.

Yes, Giacomini's voice was totally unique from many point of views...Firstly, his dark timbre and powerful made him an ideal singing artist for performing the greatest verdian roles, adding a brand new shine and dimension to them! And he was great as Canio, Turiddu as well! ☺
People don't know what real fully supported singing is these days. I maintain that Kaufmann reworked his voice with him, as only then could he attack the heavier repertoire. Rossini did not write for this kind of voice.
