There can be a use for block chain level copy protection which is what Non-fungible tokens are for. Not really in this iteration for image receipts.

It's especially disengenuous considering they know how difficult it is to add items to a game from another game, it basically has to be remade from scratch for each game and their developers are not going to do that.

NFTs remind me about how there's an island in like Micronesia or something. They use these giant immobile stone donuts as their currency. Everyone knows which stone is whos, but they never technically change hands. They just kind of have their name on them. In fact, there's a story that a stone donut was being delivered to the islands but was dropped into the sea during a storm. But the islanders didn't really care. Because really, knowing that the stone existed was just as good as actually having it.
The only difference is you can't right click a giant stone donut.
OMG that's those giant stones in the Federate States of Micronesia called Rai stones. It's pretty interesting on how they were able to make up their own concept of currency, some islands even used seashells as their own currency.
Their actual value is actually related to their history (and also size), the older the stone gets the more valuable it gets so at least it has some antique-like value unlike NFTs which will probably last as long as the NFT servers stays up and running.

i can't put my finger on it, but something about these giant stone rings seems infinitely more reasonable and respectable than nfts. maybe it's that there were actual physical objects involved, rather than just a string of data? idk.

I saw another video saying that with adoptables (characters or outfits designed and then sold or traded) work because of mutual trust and people in the communities that use them know not to steal other people's designs, and know what character belongs to which person. Of course there have been copycats, but they get taken down easily in most cases. Plus, you can trademark art as characters, logos, etc, and if people really cared, just trademark stuff if you really don't trust people.
The shonen scare says something about how quickly companies jumped on this NFT train and the language they used to introduce NFTs that this thought was the first thing that came up in their minds when seeing that tweet
I think i finally understood why kanye wrote down his message on a piece of paper. I *think* what he was going for was that it being on a physical piece of paper was meant to go with the message of "i only make real things" but in reality it just comes off as really weird and extra, but hey that's just my game theory

Huh, maybe Y2K really is back... As a kid in the early 2000s, a lot of toys aimed to look "futuristic" and "high-tech" to attract kids to whatever they claimed to be the next big thing. That didn't work out well... The only thing I still have from back them is my Game Boy Advance, which is oddly similar to the Nintendo Switch in terms of design and use. But nothing else ever took off, so why do they think this will?

Personally, I find the process of creating and selling NFTs most interesting. Buying some crappy pictures for unholy amounts of a currency that probably has a similar future as my dating life is just too bizarre to not at least look into it. To me it kinda seems like some kind of money laundering scheme.

A NFT uses around 11.3 times the amount of electricity than a average household. A household uses on average around 30 KwH while a NFT takes 340 KwH to make a single one. Why on earth does it take that much to make a bad picture of a monkey.
