I've said it before and I'll say it again: It doesn't matter if what you bought (NFT, fine art,, collector's item, anything) is worth millions more than what you paid for it if you can't find a buyer. You could buy an NFT for 1k and then its worth goes up to 100k over a few years, but that NFT will be worthless if no one wants to buy it.
Seriously people don’t get what speculative pricing is, and hell neither do I. But i do know what “the market” claims is the price doesn’t mean it IS the price. It means someone somewhere decided it’s value is that price, but that doesn’t mean anyone else agrees

insider trading. it’s worth that amount because the seller bought it for that amount from THEMSELF

Honestly, the thing I hate the most about NFTs is that they encourage art to be stolen. I've seen many talented artists have their artwork stolen to be sold as NFTs, whether on Deviant, or even a simple art Instagram page. TH-camrs have also had their channel banners stolen to be sold as NFTs as well.

Unfortunately, those people buying the nfts don't give a heck to the art. They're looking for the profit. The only people getting money from it too are the people making nfts and selling it to morons who eat up their autogenerated stuff. Plus it's often easy for many places to jack up the prices of their items to inflated prices buy putting them up for sell and buying it under another name. That way they can say, look it sold and definitely worth the price. That happened with the old Nintendo games with a auction house selling games at insane prices to themselves to make up a business and have people buy games from them at insane prices. Turns out actual buyers of the games find it extremely difficult to sell games that are at an inflated fake price lmaooo. I've seen so many nft creators self promoting each other and advertising each other it wouldn't surprise me they have multiple accounts to jack up each others worth. I know people dislike furries, but I'm part of the furry community and I've had friends whos fursonas have been stolen and sold as NFTs. NFT sellers found Toyhouse, a small site that many furries have been using to store characters. Now they are stealing art from that, ignoring the giant ass watermarks too. It's ass that people buy that shit to.

The tech is going to be helpful for artists going forward. Its just that like all new things it will have a few kinks to work out. So far the problems are being blown out of proportion. They probably did that to sell it to someone else for 50 million dollars as a "bargain" because it's actually "worth" 500 million dollars. So they were trying to scam people.

I know nfts are horrible for the environment, but as a person with enough artistic talent to make some aesthetically pleasing artworks but not enough skill to do a more nature-friendly option (furry porn) it’s a really tempting option. I don't think so. NFT bros are relentless. They will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a picture of a monkey if it's the last thing they do. I can make a painting, but that doesn't decrease the value of any other painting because I'm not popular. Most NFTs don't even gain that much value. Just a few lucky NFT creators do and people who are popular or famous to begin with.

Plus, the buyers have to try competing with the creators constantly selling new 'limited' items. None of what they buy will ever really gain value since the market itself will be flooded and all the buyers will end up out of luck LOL. But they don't care. They were told they can buy it and try selling it at higher prices and that's all they care about. It's all about money.

NFT means "Non FUNGIBLE Token". According to Oxford Languages, Fungible means "(of goods contracted for without an individual specimen being specified) able to replace or be replaced by another identical item; mutually interchangeable." So if it's NON-Fungible, it's NOT replaceable. So why are people selling multiple copies of the same NFT?

The image isn’t actually stored digitally the way cryptocurrency is, but the token is, meaning the actual art is inherently not unique and you need an assload of computers and electricity to maintain all of the tokens attached to links, which wastes a fuckton of energy and produces a fuckton of waste that fucks over the planet, all for the sake of creating fake digital product scarcity
