I love how part of the video was literally Simp's opponent realizing Simp was mirroring them and trying to do something with it. Then when they checked Simp's king, they were probably thinking something like "Hah, you can't mirror that!" while Simp was thinking "Finally, I can't mirror that!"
@@david92759 from a complete beginner's point of view, putting someone in check seems like a copy-able move. It's reasonable for beginners to mistakenly think that remaining in check IS a legal move

5:10 i'd argue you could do Rc1 there even if they didn't come from the same square to mirror the move, but I guess it depends whether you consider the entire move or just the end square
I immediately thought of two situations that should be clarified before the game started, and they both actually turned up: - Does it matter if something is captured? (which would mean Bxd5 isn't forcing Bd4) - Does it matter where it moves FROM? (which would mean Rb8-c8 isn't forcing Rf1-c1) Apparently, Simp thinks the answers are "no" and "yes", but it was never really addressed.
His interpretation is the more intuitive one to me, just move the same type of piece from a symmetrical starting square to a symmetrical target square. Instead of identifying moves with their notation.
i think you need to re-read the challenge captures (if possible to mirror) are forced. "where it moves from" only matters if moved from mirrorable position. Nothing ambiguous about that.
@@remus-alexandrusimion3439 the guy didn't mean whether a capture is forced if possible to mirror. he meant whether a move that is a capture forces a symmetrical move when that symmetrical move is possible but is not a capture. he even gave an example.
I don't think some people are properly reading the OP's question. There are multiple ways one might interpret the word "mirror" in the challenge description. The OP was right to wonder how Simp would interpret the rule. I had the same questions he did.
5:06 Depending on the definition of copying (mirror the move or mirror the result of the move) you could argue that he could have put his own rook to the mirror position.
Sounds similar to one of the drawback chess challenges and it would be almost impossible to accomplish, especially when you consider the effects of capturing.
@@Someone-tn8uri think early game would be possible since i do not include pawns, and trades from the opponent across sides would be eatable. Hard, but maybe doable for a player like simp
I'm pretty sure partway through the challenge your opponent realized you were copying him and with the Queen move he decided to test it truly, but he didn't realize the second half of the challenge meaning if u can't copy it's a free move.
