He's not saying that he himself is wanting to be accepted, he's reflecting on the way others are thinking and how desperately he wants them not to. the second part was correct though, this may very well be the beginnings of Green Day's infamous "society condeming" songs. which is really no surprise, looking back at their influences.
Whats crazy is they didnt change their name so those people knew for sure who they were in a few years when they were huge at woodstock.. like holy shit its GREEN DAY
