Not much of a review, sounded more like a commercial. Doest the box get hot? Does it make noise? Does it slow down as you use it? Is it HDMI-CEC compatible? Is the remote IR or Bluetooth?
I'm wondering if extra licensing is needed because why wouldn't you? For this price you should also get DTS-X also. It's a shame because when I first saw this video I thought I had found a replacement for the Shield. Even my Sony TV with Android TV supports all these formats via bitstream. With that said I know most devices are for streaming apps which are DD+ Atmos. For local media playback nothing holds a candle to my Dune HD Real Vision 4K. It's just that Android is not good as it doesn't run official Android TV so no HDR. The Dolby Vision VS10 engine is amazing and it can playback full UHD ISO or BDMV directories with full menus also and supports all 5 or 6 DV profiles as Dolby makes DV way too complicated IMO. For example, streaming services use profile 5 while UHD disks use profile 7. The Shield only supports profile 5 like most streaming devices.
Absolutely true. All these streaming devices materialize from nowhere and they are suppose to be all of that. You will not know what you have until you spend your hard earned money on it. I have the Shield TV and the Pro because that is how convinced I am the Nvidia is the gold standard standard among streaming devices. I watched a video that the Pro was in competition with the other name brand so called top tier streaming devices including the 3rd Gen cube and the 2022 apple 4k and it totally crushed the competition into the dirt. The Pro checked all of the boxes except for a headphone jack and that doesn't even count. The second place went to the apple 4k and the Pro trounced it by ten points. The Pro is 2019 and it still surpasses 2022 models from other manufacturers. What does that tell you? They can give me a break trying to extoll how great these other boxes are because they are selling snake oil.
FYI guys. This box, the Nokia 8010 and the Rocktek G2 all have the same chipset and specs. I believe they have different audio encoding capabilities, but I can't confirm that with more detail yet. The Rocktek G2 comes with an sd card slot and a better remote. EDIT: I just posted and noticed the post below mine also starts with "FYI" too. 😂
Nice machine, but not something I would replace my Shield though. I'm still waiting for the big WOW factor to get me interested in a new box.. Nothing yet has beaten the shield ;)

That he says "were kind enough to send me one" Says it all. It wasn't kindness, it was business. The financially strapped amateur reviewer interprets it as a gift, and an invitation to join the the big boys on youtube with the recognition of being identified as legit by a brand name product.
I'll never give up my shield pro. One more gig of ram does not really make much difference in streaming 3 gigs of ram is more than enough. The only time I'll upgrade is when Nvidia Comes out with a new shield Thanks for the video
Have had nothing but trouble with my shield. Trust me, I had a new line ran to my house, new Orbi 750 router new modem. My Tivo box works perfectly. I’m not at all impressed with nvidia shield and I’m seeking a replacement
Great review; I love the remote (the customizable button is a great idea), plus the Dolby Vision support. This player is just an all-round great device.
I am looking for a replacement for my Shield TV Pro. As much as I love it I am on my 3rd one. Nvidia has been awesome replacing them but the device seems to just not turn on anymore after a couple of years. I tell Nvidia and they send me a refurbished one. I know nothing is forever, but for the cost this device it should at least last 5 years. Homatics seems to be a contender.

I had the fire 4K stick Just got the Apple TV 4K ( 64 Gigs ) Apple is much better then the 4K Fire stick and cheaper then this Box you have Down side is android offers wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy more apps But the Apple TV is smooth fast and the picture quality is really good.
No Dolby TrueHD or DTS-X support as far as I can tell. Worse Upscaling than the Shield TV based on other reviews I see no reason to replace a Shield TV with this
It supports Dolby Atmos, but not sure if it's used in combination with Dolby Digital Plus or Dolby TrueHD (hopefully the latter). As for UpScaling, I haven't been able to give it a great test because my TV probably isn't good enough to tell the difference. I have plugged this into another HDMI input on my TV and played the same stream and can't tell the difference between the two.
That's WAY too much for a no-name brand device like this. Basically the same price as a Shield. Anyone who picks this up over a Shield-TV is crazy. Have have 2 Shield-Tvs and also the Walmart ONN box, and this thing should be priced much closer to the ONN box.

No, no, no! Absolutely not. Doesn't even touch the Nvidia Shield's processing power. It's only real rival is the GT King Pro. Pretty much every, and I mean EVERY other Android box absolutely sucks by comparison. This guy doesn't even scrape the surface of a true comparison. The CPU in this box is from 2017!!!

Consider this a topic suggestion. One of my frustrations with Android TV streaming devices is the dead end when it comes to version upgrades. Aside from possibly Google TV streaming devises, which brand that uses either Google TV or Android TV keeps up with version upgrades?
Great Question. From my experience alone, I've found the Homatics devices get more updates than MeCool and some of the others. The Onn. Devices from Walmart and the Tivo Stream4K are also slow on the updates.
@@CordCuttersLI Thanks for the quick response. When it comes to strictly Android TV it seems I'm permanently stuck with the version when I bought it. My MiBox did move up one version then stopped. I was surprised this year when my HiSense TV went from AndroidTV v9 to v11. A few days ago Google Play Store updates added the "Live" tab at the top of the screen next to the "Discover" tab. No one has reported on this yet. AndroidTV is looking more like GoogleTV. Thanks again.

It did not auto or manually upgrade to 12. Does this mean there is an upgrade on the horizon? I couldn't find a register product option on the website. I have bought Android TV boxes and two of them have 4GB of RAM with Octocore processors. One of them has 8GB of RAM with a Quad Core Processor. And all of them have atleast 64GB of storage. But none of them can play PS2 or GameCube video games like the NVIDIA Shield can. The NVIDIA Shield has a Tetra Core GPU in it like a Nintendo Switch. That is what makes it extremely powerful. The NVIDIA Shield is not just a streaming media player like all other Android TV boxes. The NVIDIA Shield is more like a gaming machine which does streaming and game play a whole lot better. There is no NVIDIA Shield killer until they come out with a machine that has a better GPU.

Can it do 4k120? Not everything advertised as HDMI 2.1 can. I'm looking for a no-compromises Moonlight streaming solution. The Shield is great for it EXCEPT being capped at 60hz for 4K.
Can you u really stream 4k 120? Ifnyou can its probably only local so you can just run a long optical cable from the server/pc room, it's better then streaming locally to TV. Like how can you do stable and fast4k130 on wifi.
@@MrDragonorp I can stream somewhere in excess of 4K60 in my home with my PC connected via Ethernet, and the receiving device on my fairly fast wifi. I don't get to 4K120, more like 90-100fps, but think that may be more limited by my PC than by the network. So I'd ideally like the display device to be able to do better than 4K60 to keep up, as my laptop (for instance) can on its own screen. Running a long HDMI cable isn't an option in my case, even with optical HDMI. The computer is on a separate floor and I don't have a practical route for it through the house.
Box is good, but not for $150, it's comparable to the onn $20, I own 2 Nvidia shields and the onn is really impressive. I do like that 4th programmable shortcut feature
Hi JV, I really like the onn. device for the great value, but this box is worlds ahead of it horsepower-wise. I also like not having the need for an nVidia account and whole extra update process to deal with.
How do you compare it to the Google streamer 4k streamer ? I feel like this can do everything the google streamer can for 50$ more update to android 12. I have the website versions copper top
This box is still not even close to the nvidia sheild my pro came with a 500 gb hard drive , plus I do not believe you will get the same updates that sheild puts out .Save your cash and go with a established brand the sheild ps the extra one gig makes zero difference
It's not even close in my opinion. This has double the Memory and double the storage. Plus, Homatics has been very good about updates. I've already had two or three updates (improvements) come down for the Homatics box vs. zero for a MeCool in a much longer time period. How does the Price compare to the nVidia Shield Pro where you are? If the same price, I might opt for the Shield Pro, but if this is cheaper, I would consider it.
Of course, this is just a streaming device, no different than a firestick or Roku. Just way better specs. Just like those others, it contains no content but can access content in apps and services online.
Have you try a rip 4k with 60GIG on your hard drive or flash drive let's see it it will play it no compress 4k let's see if it will hold up if it past that test then we can talk about making this a media server in the homes
The TH-cam video is actually 1920, not 4k. Also no mention of supported audio codecs, so I'm quite hesitant to actually like it: the Nvidia shield actually supports everything I throw at it and can very nicely play along with Plex. I have a Plex server running on a very small odroid HC4 but all content is played back through direct play in video and audio (and subtitles which is where most of these devices will tend to actually transcode!) Also no benchmarks of LAN and WAN speeds, most of these devices struggle to get the full 1Gbps speed which makes for longer loading times of a 4K HDR HEVC with 5.1 DTS-HD MA audio stream which could cope the entire gigabit connection and take full advantage of the actual chipset. I think I'll watch some more technical oriented reviews before considering buying this product. Nice review but sadly very basic.

I just like to know one thing can you can you install a Blu-ray player onto it so then if you want to watch your movies on a Blu-ray you can watch it through the streaming device I own a 2015 Nvidia shield Pro with 500 GB SSD hard drive
I don't have a specific video for that one thing (yet), but the most common reason for running out of space is because you have too many apps, or some apps are taking up too much space. After you remove some and get down to a manageable amount of space (1GB+ available), I'd suggest watching one of my videos on how to add storage to your firestick (different video depending on which version firestick you have). Search my videos for them, or let me know which model you have and I'll reply with a link. ;)
@@xcentrixone clear the cache on each individual app regularly. That's usually more than enough to keep your Firestick healthy. Go to settings, then applications, then manage installed applications. Select each app individually and clear cache.

the Android TV OS is why my shield is in the drawer. i never use it on my TV either. i prefer pure Android because it works like my phone and tablet. thx for the information tho

I am not, but I don't and wouldn't run it on my nVidia Shield(s) either. A computer is infinitely better at doing that than any streaming device in my opinion.
Hi folks I just got my box and with a couple of issues I love it so far. When I first set it up, and hour ago when I used the premium remote it turned off both the tv and the box. For some reason it now only turns the tv off but not the box. Going back into the settings it appears that the power button only allows one choice from a list of three under Auto(AEC). If I leave it at auto it turns the box off. If I select the tv (IR) it only turns the tv off. Did I do something wrong in setup? My second issue is how do I turn apps off when I am done with one and want to move to another? Thanks in advance

It depends. It can definately connect to your SoundBar via Bluetooth or directly with the Digital Output I show in the video. . If your audio system has Digital (or Bluetooth) input, then mostly likely, yes. If not, you can probably still do it, but would need to be creative. One thing that should work, would be, if you currently have an output (digital or RCA analog) to your Audio System, then it should just work.

@bobcrane9945 sorry, I'm not fully understanding your question. If you have the homatics box, you can get the sound to play through your sound system if you connect the homatics to the sound system via either digital audio cable or Bluetooth. Then, infra-red remote WILL control your volume up and down. I hope answers your question?

I've got one and my HD receiver (Marantz NR1606 says that it's supports; DTS, TrueHD, DD, DD+ and D Atmos. No DTS-HD or DTS-X, they play as DTS.

the GK3V Pro is worth it, its only 140 usd and its quite fast, can emulate n64 and even upwards that easily. the n5105 cpu is pretty damn good
100% Agree. My Shield TV Pro 2019 Has no problems streaming or playing anything, even 60GB h265 files over ethernet.

You do know there is an app called Button Mapper where you can re configure all the buttons not just one.

I have an Nvidia and a "xiaomi mi box s 4k ultra hd" I run mine with a ethernet adapter but wifi works great. This lil box is powerful.

Yes, that and you can't sideload 3rd party apps on Apple TV if that's of any interest.
Take a look at the Xiaomi mi tv stick 4K. It supports Atmos, DV, AV1 and the rest. But I'm not sure if it can handle dts X.

Gt king pro is the only thing closest to shield. Except most boxes have wifi 6 whereas shield doesn't. Same with more ram.

Consider this a topic suggestion. One of my frustrations with Android TV streaming devices is the dead end when it comes to version upgrades. Aside from possibly Google TV streaming devises, which brand that uses either Google TV or Android TV keeps up with version upgrades?
Great Question. From my experience alone, I've found the Homatics devices get more updates than MeCool and some of the others. The Onn. Devices from Walmart and the Tivo Stream4K are also slow on the updates.
@@CordCuttersLI Thanks for the quick response. When it comes to strictly Android TV it seems I'm permanently stuck with the version when I bought it. My MiBox did move up one version then stopped. I was surprised this year when my HiSense TV went from AndroidTV v9 to v11. A few days ago Google Play Store updates added the "Live" tab at the top of the screen next to the "Discover" tab. No one has reported on this yet. AndroidTV is looking more like GoogleTV. Thanks again.
@@CordCuttersLI I took your advice and bought the Homatics Box R Lite 4K. It shipped with Android TV 11 but there's a tag on the box that says, "Android 12 TV." It did not auto or manually upgrade to 12. Does this mean there is an upgrade on the horizon? I couldn't find a register product option on the website. I sent them the same question but so far, no answer. What do you think is happening? Thanks.

I have bought Android TV boxes and two of them have 4GB of RAM with Octocore processors. One of them has 8GB of RAM with a Quad Core Processor. And all of them have atleast 64GB of storage. But none of them can play PS2 or GameCube video games like the NVIDIA Shield can. The NVIDIA Shield has a Tetra Core GPU in it like a Nintendo Switch. That is what makes it extremely powerful. The NVIDIA Shield is not just a streaming media player like all other Android TV boxes. The NVIDIA Shield is more like a gaming machine which does streaming and game play a whole lot better. There is no NVIDIA Shield killer until they come out with a machine that has a better GPU.
I just hope nvidia updates de shield with a newer SoC
Nice vid. I think I'm going to stick with my Nvidia Pro. One question. Does this support TH-cam HDR.? That's the one thing that disappoints me with the Nv-Pro. No TH-cam HDR support.

Can it do 4k120? Not everything advertised as HDMI 2.1 can. I'm looking for a no-compromises Moonlight streaming solution. The Shield is great for it EXCEPT being capped at 60hz for 4K.
Can you u really stream 4k 120? Ifnyou can its probably only local so you can just run a long optical cable from the server/pc room, it's better then streaming locally to TV.
Like how can you do stable and fast4k130 on wifi.
@@MrDragonorp I can stream somewhere in excess of 4K60 in my home with my PC connected via Ethernet, and the receiving device on my fairly fast wifi. I don't get to 4K120, more like 90-100fps, but think that may be more limited by my PC than by the network.
So I'd ideally like the display device to be able to do better than 4K60 to keep up, as my laptop (for instance) can on its own screen.
Running a long HDMI cable isn't an option in my case, even with optical HDMI. The computer is on a separate floor and I don't have a practical route for it through the house.

Box is good, but not for $150, it's comparable to the onn $20, I own 2 Nvidia shields and the onn is really impressive. I do like that 4th programmable shortcut feature

You ar wrong, it's there for certified Android/Google TV boxes/sticks. For this device also.
This box is still not even close to the nvidia sheild my pro came with a 500 gb hard drive , plus I do not believe you will get the same updates that sheild puts out .Save your cash and go with a established brand the sheild ps the extra one gig makes zero difference

It's not even close in my opinion. This has double the Memory and double the storage. Plus, Homatics has been very good about updates. I've already had two or three updates (improvements) come down for the Homatics box vs. zero for a MeCool in a much longer time period.
How does the Price compare to the nVidia Shield Pro where you are? If the same price, I might opt for the Shield Pro, but if this is cheaper, I would consider it.

Software updates is what makes the Nvidia shield the streaming king. I doubt any company will support their hardware for 8+ years

I see little or no difference in the shield, and I do like not having that extra nVidia account and another set up updates to always deal with.

Of course, this is just a streaming device, no different than a firestick or Roku. Just way better specs. Just like those others, it contains no content but can access content in apps and services online.

Have you try a rip 4k with 60GIG on your hard drive or flash drive let's see it it will play it no compress 4k let's see if it will hold up if it past that test then we can talk about making this a media server in the homes
The TH-cam video is actually 1920, not 4k. Also no mention of supported audio codecs, so I'm quite hesitant to actually like it: the Nvidia shield actually supports everything I throw at it and can very nicely play along with Plex. I have a Plex server running on a very small odroid HC4 but all content is played back through direct play in video and audio (and subtitles which is where most of these devices will tend to actually transcode!)
Also no benchmarks of LAN and WAN speeds, most of these devices struggle to get the full 1Gbps speed which makes for longer loading times of a 4K HDR HEVC with 5.1 DTS-HD MA audio stream which could cope the entire gigabit connection and take full advantage of the actual chipset.
I think I'll watch some more technical oriented reviews before considering buying this product. Nice review but sadly very basic.
Until I see it emulating gamecube I don't see it beating the shield

I don't have a specific video for that one thing (yet), but the most common reason for running out of space is because you have too many apps, or some apps are taking up too much space. After you remove some and get down to a manageable amount of space (1GB+ available), I'd suggest watching one of my videos on how to add storage to your firestick (different video depending on which version firestick you have). Search my videos for them, or let me know which model you have and I'll reply with a link. ;)

@@xcentrixone clear the cache on each individual app regularly. That's usually more than enough to keep your Firestick healthy. Go to settings, then applications, then manage installed applications. Select each app individually and clear cache.

There is no other Android TV box that support Plex server. It requires 64bit Android OS, and so far, only Nvidia implemented it

I am not, but I don't and wouldn't run it on my nVidia Shield(s) either. A computer is infinitely better at doing that than any streaming device in my opinion.

Hi folks I just got my box and with a couple of issues I love it so far.
When I first set it up, and hour ago when I used the premium remote it turned off both the tv and the box. For some reason it now only turns the tv off but not the box. Going back into the settings it appears that the power button only allows one choice from a list of three under Auto(AEC). If I leave it at auto it turns the box off. If I select the tv (IR) it only turns the tv off. Did I do something wrong in setup?
My second issue is how do I turn apps off when I am done with one and want to move to another? Thanks in advance

Can the remote volume control be programmed for my audio system?
It depends. It can definately connect to your SoundBar via Bluetooth or directly with the Digital Output I show in the video. . If your audio system has Digital (or Bluetooth) input, then mostly likely, yes. If not, you can probably still do it, but would need to be creative. One thing that should work, would be, if you currently have an output (digital or RCA analog) to your Audio System, then it should just work.

@bobcrane9945 sorry, I'm not fully understanding your question. If you have the homatics box, you can get the sound to play through your sound system if you connect the homatics to the sound system via either digital audio cable or Bluetooth. Then, infra-red remote WILL control your volume up and down. I hope answers your question?
