I recently purchased a Walmart 4K Pro and there is lots of info showing how to expand the internal storage. I would like info on how to add external storage and be able yo move files (videos) from internal storage to external storage. I will leave all apps on internal storage. Any info will be appreciated.
Great video! And I just love my new onn 4K Pro (bought about a week ago at my local Walmart). So much better then the chromecast with Google TV. I use mine with an external USB hub, so I can get 1GB ethernet, keyboard and additional storage (if needed). With regard to using the internal speaker of the Onn (when TV is off) you have to turn on HDMI-CEC for both the Onn and the TV (this makes sense, but it took me sevaral days to figure out that this was the problem -- my TV was not using CEC).
Knowing that I can use VLC on this with a thumb drive helps me so much! I’m slowly working on ripping and converting my old DVDs to MKV as I no longer use a DVD player in the living room. I’m supposed to get one of these in the mail tomorrow, and that has just made this so worth it!
I replaced my Google Chromecast With Google TV 4K with this Onn TV 4K Pro Box and honestly the Onn TV 4K Pro Box performs way better and it doesn't have Lag or Slowness like the Google Chromecast With Google TV 4K. If Walmart can keep these Devices Updated consistently and keep them at a good Price then I think they will take over Amazon and possibly even Google Roku and Apple for the best Streaming Devices out there. I'm still keeping my Google Chromecast With Google TV 4K as a Backup because that's what Google has over Onn is consistent Updates since Google is Stock Android but like I said if Walmart can keep the Onn Brand Devices Updated consistently then I can surely see them leading the way with the best Streaming Devices. You also get way more with the Onn TV 4K Pro Box then you do with the Google Chromecast With Google TV 4K or other Brand Streaming Devices especially at a $50.00 Dollar Price point you can't beat it.
What you don't get is a video card. I bought it, I took it back. They asked my wife what was wrong, she said we have a 4K TV and it looks like crap. It was kind of sluggish and it froze up on me one time. Maybe I just got a bad one. I have three old ones for $20 each that I purchased previously and the graphics is perfect and the speed is exceptional. I had one that I bought that was slow so I gave it away. Maybe I'm the only one that didn't have a good experience with this. I like the Onn. brand.
I bought one for my brother's birthday. I am a Fire TV cube user and its remote is much more friendly, my brother has fat fingers so to speak so he struggles with pressing the buttons on this remote. It would be nice if they improved on the buttons, especially the black enter button which is much bigger on the Fire cube remote.
A very thorough review. Thanks for discussing the flash-drive feature. The previous device was FAT 32 only, which kept me away from it because it couldn't play all the videos that were loaded on my flash drive.
I went back to the Fire Stick recently because I couldn't find or pair an Onn remote that has actual Play, Rewind, and Fast-Forward buttons. Those work best in apps like ESPN.
The speaker on my device works with the HDMI plugged in. It answers questions but won't play music. I don't care because I never intended to listen to music from that tiny speaker.
Got this device a couple days ago and its awesome. Never had ONN before but have chromecast and Roku Ultra. I hate Roku menu system and love Googles. The Onn 4K Pro is very snappy. Most imporrantlynfor me, is Bluetooth 5.2. Long range of wireless audio if youmuse headphones, or like me, blue tooth hearing aids. Any other device, i would lose bluetooth connection audio from the tv if i go to a different room. With this Onn 4KPro, I can go far in my house without losing audio. GREAT device.
Question I have 2 ONN Boxes and neither 1 has the Remote with the Backlight (Big Blue Button that say's" Live TV" missing) also when I click on Settings then click on Privacy scroll down there's NO option for Google Assistant or Purchase History can somebody please help? THANKS

@WOTBoxTV haha, yeah. I've had my Spotify account linked to Google forever. Use it all the time. That is so annoying, though, when Google can't just figure it out and do what you want.
Great review, I have the $20 version, I will upgrade when I burn this one out, the button to finding the remote sold me, the firesticks I owned lasted a couple of years, so far, the cheap version kills the firestick.
I see that you have a remote that does NOT have the stupid big "Free TV" button. Have they changed the remote? Good video by the way! Edit: I found out the answer to this so figured I'd let others know... the newer Onn 4K Pro devices have the stupid "Free TV" button. However, for me, it's definitely worth it because it is backlit. That's huge for me when watching in bed at night.

Hi, I had been looking online for about 4 days and it was always out of stock and looked in store and it was always out of stock. Looked again yesterday online and they were in stock and I ordered one and it says it will be delivered today. So I would suggest just checking online every day.😊
Patience my friend. They will turn up at a Walmart near you really soon. Check out my advice in the "Community" section of my channel where I explain the best method. That's how I was able to buy 4 of these devices to ship to friends in other countries that don't have Walmart.
I own Chromecast with Google TV 4k and Firestick Max pro which currently resides in my drawer. I love my Chromecast. This is however a big, big upgrade over it. Same user interface as Google's Chromecast with Google TV 4 k, unlike Amazon's joke of a device it has full access to play store, with additional hardware capabilities and 32GB storage!! I am happy with my Chromecast but knowing myself, sooner or later, I will buy this.

I have had the Google ONN,for several months.Before that I had the firestick.Side loading apps,is not difficult.The ONN works just like a firestick,as far as putting apps on it.

I got mine about a week ago and I'm waiting to set it up , the 4K Max is still working good even though Amazon is removing or changing things in the format. I'd like to see you do an actual set up with the 4K Pro so people, myself included can get everything working right. I hope that Amazon will stop messing with the old Firestick format and just bring out the new system and leave the old ones alone. Some say they will and some say by fall all the old Firesticks will be converted to the new system. I'd really like to get the new ONN 4K Pro all set up so I don't have to worry if Amazon does decide to say goodbye to the android system.
Hi and thanks for sharing. I recognize you from some comments on my Rumble channel. Thank you for the dual subscribership (if that's a word, lol).. Let me put it to you this way, I can assure you that Amazon will NOT be forcing all the old devices to "upgrade" to the new Operating system. I don't think it's technically possible, and if it is, the amount of "bricked" devices they'd have on their hands would bankrupt them. Plus, there's a VERY good possibility that the existing hardware won't be compatible with their new Vega OS.

But IMO they will concentrate most of there efforts on the new operating system and the old system will be put on the back burner. The ONN 4K Pro is a serious upgrade from the 4K Max it reminds me more of the Firestick cube except its about 100 bucks cheaper. What are your thoughts about Onn updating this device for the long term compared to the vast number of updates with Amazon Fire devices, Google Chromecasts, Nvidia Shield?
I guess only time will tell, but I have the 2021 Onn 4k, which come with android tv 10. I know the 2021 box received updates about as often as my chromecast 4k . About 6 months ago, my 2021 onn 4k updated to android 12, so from previous experience and with the Onn devices using Google TV, I feel comfortable they will continue with the future updates. I have already purchased the Onn 4k pro about 5 days ago, got it set up and so far it is an absolutely great streaming device with lots of storage, Usb 3.0 and an ethernet port for those who wish to wire direct.
First of all, I have to say, I LOVE your avatar, my fellow Giants fan! Second, I agree with @darrenp5053, the updates have come regularly on their previous devices, so I don't think this will be different. With the overwhelming initial success this device is seeing, they should certainly have the budget to keep the updates coming.
It's 2024, not 2014. A lack of updates can be a genuine selling point for a lot of people, now that updates usually downgrade something notable (unlike a decade ago where it was usually a net gain). Frankly, I'm so tired of updates making things I paid for worse that for some things, I'd rather have a more insecure AND more functional device. I'd actually be more likely to buy a streaming device if there was a commitment to NOT push major updates. The older versions of Android TV are still objectively superior in dramatic ways if you hate ads and roughly have an idea of what you want to watch before you sit down.
They MUST create option to change to a different 'wake word'! I always keep my Android phone ON next to me. If I want to have the ONN do something by using the 'Hey, Google' command, then my phone is going to respond to that, as well. I mentioned this in a reddit thread and the only response I got was a guy who set he has that mic turned off on his phone (and has for years). But I don't want my phone microphone turned off! I want it active, if needed when I'm in the car! Hands-free, you know? Do you think Google (ONN) will do this? Amazon got around to it a few years ago (and they rarely do anything good for the us end-users ... unless it makes them money!). Wht can't Google?
I know the box says its 32 Gb of storage space, but under the Storage setting it lists total shared storage at 23. After adding/deleting, I have 20 remaining...not bad, and I expected the available amount to be less when I fired up the box, but its still misleading to say 32
Great point, but EVERY streaming device seems to get away with this misrepresentation of storage. Firesticks with "8GB" really have 3 to 4 useable. Even my nVidia Shield with 16GB only had around 10GB if I recall. I think if there was a way, which I haven't been able to find, to show ALL the storage including every system file and other preinstalled apps, it MIGHT show something close to the amount advertised. Bottom line, like you said, this device has around 20+GB available for apps after all the preloaded stuff, and that's pretty hard to beat at this price.
@@CordCuttersLI Actually the 8 GB FireStick devices leave you with 5.1 to 5.4 GB out of the box. That's what I expected from the 2023 ONN 4K 8 GB box (I have one, but haven't set it up yet), but all the video tutorials usually show it starts with only '3.x' GB of available space! Even though both are pitifully low, 2GB is a significant difference. With the FireSticks, you could get by for a bit longer, before being forced into an External USB setup. With the ONN box, you practically need to do it from Day One! Which is why the 32/23 GB for the ONN Pro is a game changer. But my hope would be for the price to come down to maybe $35 (since it's not a very powerful device ... actually slower than the original 'Android-TV' ONN 4K box (by benchmark-testing, anyway)!

Thanks. I heard about that, too (from TDUK's video), but I'm not sure how to test that out. I tried playing several older Movies and TV Shows on Netflix (obviously long before Dolby Vision was a thing), and everything played flawlessly and the colors were fine. What specific shows or movies have you watched on NetFlix that didn't look right? I'd love to test on my end.
@@CordCuttersLI you're welcome man and for whatever reason whenever I open Netflix even if I reload the app it'll automatically switch over to Dolby vision I'll even get the Dolby vision logo on the right corner of my TV and then if I go under my settings it'll automatically be in Dolby vision under my picture settings and some titles in HD that I've tried were interstellar The flash TV show suicide squad just to name a few and they all stayed on dolby vision settings

Sound good, looks like Firestick has some serous competition with this device. The Walmarts in my area do not have it in stock, I see some people are "scalping" the ONN 4K PRO on eBay. ;-(
Yes, I've seen that. I don't see a lot of them selling at those insanely high prices though. Your local Walmart will get them soon, I'm sure of it. Hang in there. In the meantime, I'll probably have more videos on it, so you'll be well prepared to do everything with it by the time the do. 👍
I will probably get one for the added storage and ethernet connection (I don't have WIFI 6). If it played music like other assistant speakers I would get one immediately, hopefully they fix this with an update soon.
The feature that convinced me to buy this is the USB 3.0 port. My video files play great using the VLC player. The only downside is the remote which won't control many of my Sony STR-DN1040 features such as the power button and mute. It will however control the volume. It would be great if they add more codes to a future update.
Curious as to whether you've set a harddrive up specifically to store recordings from TiviMate? I've tried defining the hard drivr as internal and external. Tivimate either doesn't see it as internal or won't write to it as external. I get the "failed to change folder" error as external. I am pretty sure some permissions need to be changed, as was the case with the Shield last year to get around it but, for the life of me, I cant figure out what needs changed. My Firestick 4k Max recognizes the storage and reads and writes to it regardless of internal or external definition. I just really hate using an Amazon product. Have you been able to attach a hard drive and use TiviNate to record to it?

@@stephenharvey5932 If you're talking about mobile data, YES, anything you stream, unless you play it from a USB drive or something like I showed in this video, you WILL use your Mobile Data if you cannot connect to Wifi or hardwired router.
Or if you mean ... Do I have to pay to use the streaming services of the premium apps (like Netflix, Max, Hulu, TH-cam-TV, Peacock, etc), then 'Yes, you always have to subscribe separately for those! But the Apps, themselves, you download for free ... they just don't do anything until you actually subscribe.
"Yet" in the key word.. Just like the older model, at some point an Amazon reseller will offer these on Amazon. I've shipped these to fellow TH-cam creator friends of mine, and it's NOT cheap. Cost to ship far exceeds the price of the device which makes it not economically feasible. Patience my friend. It'll come. In the mean time, make sure you're subscribed to my channel so you'll be an expert on it by the time you get your hands on it. 👍👍
Thank you for the informative video. I'm currently using 2 Onn 4K boxes (2023 model year), and am patiently waiting for my closest Walmart, in Niagara Falls, NY, to start selling it. I personally think that it is worth the upgrade. Not only for the increase in memory and internal storage, but more-so for the USB 3.0 port as I can use my new UGreen Gigabit ethernet, and USB adapter in it to get faster internet speeds. I have recently switched from Amazon FireTV devices to Onn Android TV boxes. See you in the next video.

Hi, and thank you for the kind words. I'm honored to have a subscriber from 1/2 way across the world in a country that I've always wanted to visit, and someday will! I hear what you're saying. I think sometimes we in the US take for granted all the things that are readily available here . I've been buying these and shipping them to my fellow TH-cam creators in Canada, Spain and the UK. The cost to ship can exceed the price of the device in some cases. If you like what you see in the GoogleTV interface, I'll assume you can probably get the Chromecast with GoogleTV, which is a great streaming device. There are also some MeCool devices with GoogleTV that I've reviewed here that you might want to check out.
Great question, and @tetuone11 is right. None of the streaming devices come with local channels like NBC, CBS etc. on them. Some of them, including this one has regional network channels from big cities like New York, Chicago, etc. There are apps out there where you CAN get those channels though. Some, which cost money for subscription that we can talk about here, and others that don't and we can't.

I am curious to know if you set the t.v up in the box. like as in making the box know what t.v you are using it on. because. when i talk to my box it answer's me through my sound bar but not the speaker on the box itself. if i unplug the hdmi cable then the box answer's me through the built in speaker. so im confused as to why your box isn't working the same way. maybe a bad hdmi cable ? or maybe the tv isnt setup within the box itself.
@@tetuone11 oh it's on. and when i ask it anything it answers me through my sound bar and surround speakers. I use the hdmi cable that came with the device. it works flawless for me.

@@tetuone11 no issues here. i was replyin to your video. you stated that when you unplug the hdmi cable the speaker works. but when its plugged in you hear nothing when you speak to it. I was saying I dont have that issue. if i unplug the hdmi the speaker on the device works, if i plug in the hdmi it speaks back to me through me tv sound bar. lol. sorry for the confusion.

But that is NOT the same as having a Google Home Mini speaker (or whatever the name is) that plays music (or podcasts, etc) of other apps on its own! I don't have a Fire Cube, but I'm assuming this IS possible (without it turning on the TV and playing through its speakers) ... though I don't know for sure. So more like a separate Echo Dot speaker?
To answer that question in short, it has a different interface, but can do ANYTHING a Firestick can do and more, especially with all the changes Amazon is making lately to cripple it's capabilities.

It's not worth the hike in price. Too many gimmicky updates that is not relevant on a streaming box. I don't need my streaming box to tell me a joke, the built-in speaker is useless. I am sticking to my current ONN box!!
I discovered this completely by accident but when I did a factory reset, Sling TV was listed on the group of apps to initially install. Not sure if I missed it during the first setup but it was definitely there and functional on subsequent setups.

Edit: I found out the answer to this so figured I'd let others know... the newer Onn 4K Pro devices have the stupid "Free TV" button. However, for me, it's definitely worth it because it is backlit. That's huge for me when watching in bed at night.

Patience my friend. They will turn up at a Walmart near you really soon. Check out my advice in the "Community" section of my channel where I explain the best method. That's how I was able to buy 4 of these devices to ship to friends in other countries that don't have Walmart.
I own Chromecast with Google TV 4k and Firestick Max pro which currently resides in my drawer. I love my Chromecast. This is however a big, big upgrade over it. Same user interface as Google's Chromecast with Google TV 4 k, unlike Amazon's joke of a device it has full access to play store, with additional hardware capabilities and 32GB storage!! I am happy with my Chromecast but knowing myself, sooner or later, I will buy this.
It's hard to disagree with any of that! 👍

I have had the Google ONN,for several months.Before that I had the firestick.Side loading apps,is not difficult.The ONN works just like a firestick,as far as putting apps on it.

I got mine about a week ago and I'm waiting to set it up , the 4K Max is still working good even though Amazon is removing or changing things in the format. I'd like to see you do an actual set up with the 4K Pro so people, myself included can get everything working right. I hope that Amazon will stop messing with the old Firestick format and just bring out the new system and leave the old ones alone. Some say they will and some say by fall all the old Firesticks will be converted to the new system. I'd really like to get the new ONN 4K Pro all set up so I don't have to worry if Amazon does decide to say goodbye to the android system.

Let me put it to you this way, I can assure you that Amazon will NOT be forcing all the old devices to "upgrade" to the new Operating system. I don't think it's technically possible, and if it is, the amount of "bricked" devices they'd have on their hands would bankrupt them. Plus, there's a VERY good possibility that the existing hardware won't be compatible with their new Vega OS.

But IMO they will concentrate most of there efforts on the new operating system and the old system will be put on the back burner. What are your thoughts about Onn updating this device for the long term compared to the vast number of updates with Amazon Fire devices, Google Chromecasts, Nvidia Shield?
I guess only time will tell, but I have the 2021 Onn 4k, which come with android tv 10. I know the 2021 box received updates about as often as my chromecast 4k . About 6 months ago, my 2021 onn 4k updated to android 12, so from previous experience and with the Onn devices using Google TV, I feel comfortable they will continue with the future updates. I have already purchased the Onn 4k pro about 5 days ago, got it set up and so far it is an absolutely great streaming device with lots of storage, Usb 3.0 and an ethernet port for those who wish to wire direct.

Second, I agree with @darrenp5053, the updates have come regularly on their previous devices, so I don't think this will be different. With the overwhelming initial success this device is seeing, they should certainly have the budget to keep the updates coming.
It's 2024, not 2014. A lack of updates can be a genuine selling point for a lot of people, now that updates usually downgrade something notable (unlike a decade ago where it was usually a net gain). Frankly, I'm so tired of updates making things I paid for worse that for some things, I'd rather have a more insecure AND more functional device. I'd actually be more likely to buy a streaming device if there was a commitment to NOT push major updates. The older versions of Android TV are still objectively superior in dramatic ways if you hate ads and roughly have an idea of what you want to watch before you sit down.

I always keep my Android phone ON next to me. If I want to have the ONN do something by using the 'Hey, Google' command, then my phone is going to respond to that, as well.
I mentioned this in a reddit thread and the only response I got was a guy who set he has that mic turned off on his phone (and has for years).
But I don't want my phone microphone turned off! I want it active, if needed when I'm in the car! Hands-free, you know?

I know the box says its 32 Gb of storage space, but under the Storage setting it lists total shared storage at 23. After adding/deleting, I have 20 remaining...not bad, and I expected the available amount to be less when I fired up the box, but its still misleading to say 32
Great point, but EVERY streaming device seems to get away with this misrepresentation of storage. Firesticks with "8GB" really have 3 to 4 useable. Even my nVidia Shield with 16GB only had around 10GB if I recall. I think if there was a way, which I haven't been able to find, to show ALL the storage including every system file and other preinstalled apps, it MIGHT show something close to the amount advertised. Bottom line, like you said, this device has around 20+GB available for apps after all the preloaded stuff, and that's pretty hard to beat at this price.

Actually the 8 GB FireStick devices leave you with 5.1 to 5.4 GB out of the box.
That's what I expected from the 2023 ONN 4K 8 GB box (I have one, but haven't set it up yet), but all the video tutorials usually show it starts with only '3.x' GB of available space!
Even though both are pitifully low, 2GB is a significant difference. With the FireSticks, you could get by for a bit longer, before being forced into an External USB setup. With the ONN box, you practically need to do it from Day One!
Which is why the 32/23 GB for the ONN Pro is a game changer. But my hope would be for the price to come down to maybe $35 (since it's not a very powerful device ... actually slower than the original 'Android-TV' ONN 4K box (by benchmark-testing, anyway)!

Thanks. I heard about that, too (from TDUK's video), but I'm not sure how to test that out. I tried playing several older Movies and TV Shows on Netflix (obviously long before Dolby Vision was a thing), and everything played flawlessly and the colors were fine.
What specific shows or movies have you watched on NetFlix that didn't look right? I'd love to test on my end.
@@CordCuttersLI you're welcome man and for whatever reason whenever I open Netflix even if I reload the app it'll automatically switch over to Dolby vision I'll even get the Dolby vision logo on the right corner of my TV and then if I go under my settings it'll automatically be in Dolby vision under my picture settings and some titles in HD that I've tried were interstellar The flash TV show suicide squad just to name a few and they all stayed on dolby vision settings

Yes, I've seen that. I don't see a lot of them selling at those insanely high prices though. Your local Walmart will get them soon, I'm sure of it. Hang in there. In the meantime, I'll probably have more videos on it, so you'll be well prepared to do everything with it by the time the do. 👍

The feature that convinced me to buy this is the USB 3.0 port. My video files play great using the VLC player. The only downside is the remote which won't control many of my Sony STR-DN1040 features such as the power button and mute. It will however control the volume. It would be great if they add more codes to a future update.
Curious as to whether you've set a harddrive up specifically to store recordings from TiviMate?
I've tried defining the hard drivr as internal and external. Tivimate either doesn't see it as internal or won't write to it as external.
I get the "failed to change folder" error as external.
I am pretty sure some permissions need to be changed, as was the case with the Shield last year to get around it but, for the life of me, I cant figure out what needs changed.
My Firestick 4k Max recognizes the storage and reads and writes to it regardless of internal or external definition.
I just really hate using an Amazon product.

Or if you mean ... Do I have to pay to use the streaming services of the premium apps (like Netflix, Max, Hulu, TH-cam-TV, Peacock, etc), then 'Yes, you always have to subscribe separately for those! But the Apps, themselves, you download for free ... they just don't do anything until you actually subscribe.

Cost to ship far exceeds the price of the device which makes it not economically feasible. Patience my friend. It'll come. Thank you for the informative video. I'm currently using 2 Onn 4K boxes (2023 model year), and am patiently waiting for my closest Walmart, in Niagara Falls, NY, to start selling it. I personally think that it is worth the upgrade. Not only for the increase in memory and internal storage, but more-so for the USB 3.0 port as I can use my new UGreen Gigabit ethernet, and USB adapter in it to get faster internet speeds. I have recently switched from Amazon FireTV devices to Onn Android TV boxes. See you in the next video.

I hear what you're saying. I think sometimes we in the US take for granted all the things that are readily available here . I've been buying these and shipping them to my fellow TH-cam creators in Canada, Spain and the UK. The cost to ship can exceed the price of the device in some cases.
If you like what you see in the GoogleTV interface, I'll assume you can probably get the Chromecast with GoogleTV, which is a great streaming device. There are also some MeCool devices with GoogleTV that I've reviewed here that you might want to check out.

No it doesn't include your local channels automatically.
Great question, and @tetuone11 is right. None of the streaming devices come with local channels like NBC, CBS etc. on them. Some of them, including this one has regional network channels from big cities like New York, Chicago, etc. There are apps out there where you CAN get those channels though. Some, which cost money for subscription that we can talk about here, and others that don't and we can't.

No problem at all. The remote communicates via BlueTooth, so "line of sight" is not needed.

I am curious to know if you set the t.v up in the box. like as in making the box know what t.v you are using it on. because. when i talk to my box it answer's me through my sound bar but not the speaker on the box itself. if i unplug the hdmi cable then the box answer's me through the built in speaker. so im confused as to why your box isn't working the same way. maybe a bad hdmi cable ? or maybe the tv isnt setup within the box itself.
The set up isn't much different from a fire stick. Double check it and make sure the hands free option is set to on, on the 4k Pro itself.

But that is NOT the same as having a Google Home Mini speaker (or whatever the name is) that plays music (or podcasts, etc) of other apps on its own!
I don't have a Fire Cube, but I'm assuming this IS possible (without it turning on the TV and playing through its speakers) ... though I don't know for sure. So more like a separate Echo Dot speaker?

Question: Why can you install Sling TV on this box? I use Sling TV to watch live TV so this box is useless to me.
I discovered this completely by accident but when I did a factory reset, Sling TV was listed on the group of apps to initially install.
Not sure if I missed it during the first setup but it was definitely there and functional on subsequent setups.
You can 100% install SlingTV on this device. It's available in the Google Play store.
