I am childfree by choice and I get labeled as “selfish” for not having or wanting children. However and if you ask parent why they had children, I can almost guarantee that they will start the phrase with “I wanted…”. -“I wanted mini me’s.” -“I wanted unconditional love.” -“I wanted to add to my last name, bloodline and legacy.” -“I wanted a sense of meaning, purpose and fulfillment.” -“I wanted someone to take care of me when I’m old.” -“I wanted to repair damage from my childhood.” -“I wanted to relive my childhood.” -“I wanted to fit in with society.” -“I wanted to be a parent.” I don’t know about y’all but all of that sounds downright selfish to me. Can’t y’all see that every reason that people “want” kids is selfish. These people don’t think about the children, they think of their own desires and that they have children for selfish reasons which I have listed above.
I would love to have children but I always believed that it would be unethical for me to reproduce and be a parent. I struggle with mental health issues, disordered eating and addiction and do not believe I have what it takes to handle the 24/7 18+ year responsibility, financial obligation, stress, and exhaustion of parenting. This was the hardest decision of my life (that I spent years contemplating) because children are amazing, yet, I know no child deserves to be raised by someone like me. I am tired of being called "selfish" for not having children. Thanks for this video.
This personal wish is based on fulfillment of human nature. Even if it were not the case, PARENTHOOD is more than this. The education of children is essentially not selfish, but a collective moral value. It is so selfish as "helping the poor because I want”. What matters is the result, not the intention, in this case. Antinatalism, however, has equally evident selfish aspects: lazyness, financial interest, political interests. Having kids or not are accidental atributes of selfishness. If the statement were true, civilization would be based on selfishness. This leads to a paradox of selfishness being a positive moral value.
Perfect.

The thumbnail is very true.
Great content.
