I started yoga about 3 years ago when I was halfway into postpartum after having my daughter, and I was sick and didn't want to do nothing. Discovered Yoga by Adrienne, and have been doing it since. SaraBeth Yoga is good for beginners, and I personally follow Fightmaster Yoga, Yoga Upload, Heart Alchemy Yoga, Five Part Yoga and Allie's The Journey Junkie. Sometimes I do Yoga by Candence, Bad Yogi and Interval Yoga. I really prefer practicing at home, and I think you can advance on your own without paying. A class is expensive and I'm on a budget, but maybe some day I'll go to a classes

I totally agree with you! I have watched many of the channels you mentioned but will look up the ones I haven't so thanks!!! You may love these channels as well: Cat Meffan, Kino Yoga, Alo Yoga, Boho Beautiful, Yoga with Kassandra, and Morgan Tyler (The Southern Yogi) are all a must. Also, Annie Clarke, Brett Larkin, and PsycheTruth are good.

I'm already a yogi and have been for a few years, but I still love hearing your thoughts :) I wish I had someone telling me all these things when I first started out, it was such a discouraging struggle! I'm still not super flexible and can't do many "trick" poses, but I'm getting better and better each day. Your progress is so inspiring! Happy Sunday!

🚨I found the cheapest way to start is to look up your local community college and enroll in their beginners yoga class.
Where I am (Southern California) it’s $46 a unit and yoga classes are always just one unit. And that’s for 2 days a week for a whole semester (4-5ish months). You’ll probably have a small writing assignment (for me it was a dream board) and you’ll get mini lectures about yoga 👍🏻

I was one of those people with little body awareness. Her advice taking classes is great! I took classes a couple years for yoga, Pilates, and Barre, and even though I took those three years ago, I have great body awareness now such as recognizing if my shoulders are lifted or my knee is twisted behind me. Also doing it in front of mirror is good too. I have good awareness but I still am learning and mirror helps you catch yourself

Victoria Li xD that's so funny because no matter how hard I train my quads/glutes they never get as tight and sore as my hamstrings. That challenge sounds fun, I might give it a try :3 thanks for letting me know about it

KSNandSLW That’s so crazy because I always get sore in my hamstrings! Usually anything that requires me to hinge at my hips makes me super tight. Like good mornings and straight leg deadlifts. I’m doing the challenge to create a habit. I’ve yoga before, but I never stuck with it and now I’m hoping to work my way towards Yoga Fix 90!

Caitlin! Your practice looks so beautiful in your vlogs! I'm surprised you haven't been practicing longer. Do you think it's partially because you've been using thrivingplantbased? I'm debating signing up because I love Michelle and I know that you really like it and obviously recommended it in the video. I know you mentioned she has all level flows in there and I agree it's sometimes hard to find more advanced flows on youtube. Do you think Michelle helps you advance your practice consistently? I'm just curious. Thank you!

Allison Friske I cant speak for Caitlin, but I have been a member of Thriving Plant Based for a couple years and Michelle’s tutorials have definitely helped me advance my practice. i am a yoga teacher and i think going to a yogastudio is so improtent. Seeing people who practiced yoga for a long time in person is beneficial for all the questions that will cum up. And doing an Asana wrong can mean you look funny or it can mean that you are hurting yourself. Injuries can cum up by practicing Asanas wrong. So its important to see a teacher who can correct your mistakes.

Please urge your viewers to ALWAYS take a 'fundamentals of yoga' class before practicing on their own. I see so much poor alignment in advanced classes because people think they're more advanced than they are, or they never learned the basics.

Roads To Bliss channel is one of my favorite online yoga videos. Also, Carrie Owerko has some of the best yoga videos for beginners to intermediate. She explains in a more practical way than Adriene or other vinyasa teachers. Also, fyi vinyasa came out of Pattahbi Jois’ Astanga-Vinyasa and Iyengar at a fundamental level is the same as Astanga-Vinyasa but is also more practical for beginners to start right.

I definately recommend that beginners take a yoga class. Having a teacher give guidance and help you get understand good alignment is important to prevent injury. Yin yoga is not the same as restorative yoga. Yin yoga is a slower practice and poses are held for several mins in which you are stretching your connective tissues. The use of props in yin yoga is simply to keep you in the pose. A restorative yoga practice is more relaxing and props are used to help you relax into the pose.

Question for Caitlin! What are your thoughts on practicing yoga but "having" to be a vegan first? I am a vegetarian and LOVE yoga, but I can't seem to get it out of my head that I need to be a vegan to practice yoga. Willow Peluso you don’t have to be a vegan but as a vegan I believe that yoga is all about mindfulness and connecting yourself with nature and achieving peace which is something that is extremely important and parallel with veganism. In veganism you are help making peace with the world while you are not consuming any cruelty.

you should check out Silke Dewulf or theplantbasedyoga teacher!! She is starting to do more intense yoga flows but I 100% also recommend her for beginners because she really goes into alignment and takes it slow

What's a good length for daily yoga practice? I'm just starting out... 30 min? 60? More? Thanks!

Andriana E Any amount that you feel comfortable with or have time for. When I first started I used shorter videos in the 15-20minute range and would do a few each session until I figured out what kinds worked best for me. Now I usually range from 30 min to a little over an hour depending on how I’m feeling and how much time I can spare! Good luck!

Yoga with ADRIANE is the best for all levels..
A few other are Allie the journey junkie
And Candace...I feel that they are good at making sure you keep good form or give you alternatives if you’re not flexible
Also I find that they use a mindful approach.
    Merry Christmas Caitlin x

Yogaglo.com is a great subscription website. About two dozen different world renowned teachers offer hundreds of classes in different styles all for $18/month. Kathryn Budig and Tiffany Cruikshank are two of my favorite teachers from that site.

Janine Trinidad Expensive, but definitely worth it if you're doing hot yoga. A lot less slippery than normal mats.
