Can you guys feel why this is so much better?. camera pans out and no fucking cell phones or ipads in the air.. just hands clapping to how good a song this is
Armand Jason Salva It appears that events\shows\places or whatever have turned into opportunities to promote the self through social media channels. It's all "look where I've been", "see what I've done", etc...individualism is running rampant.
Days in war torn country, caught up in devastating poverty and conflict. This was ma song that used to give me hope one day I will escape out and drive on an inter state highway while the city lights lay a head of me. The wishes and the dreams given to me out of this song came true now for me. I live in the US. God is merciful.
Absolutely ☺😀 She's got such a great voice. I've liked this song since I was young. As I became older and had my first serious boyfriend he became like the male in the song Tracy Chapman is singing about. You've got a fast car is it fast enough so we can fly away, You've got to make a decision leave tonight or die this way..them lyrics and if you've no job or plans so take your fast car and keep on driving is so my ex. I was the female in the story wanting to get myself to be some one. Too bad that I'll always better myself and my ex will never be successful as his just an idiot. I'm going places again..a new opportunity has presented itself to work. I'm stoked for this to happen. About time it starts to get better 😀💖
This song meant a lot to me. I went thru a lot with my first husband. He abandoned me and my 4 little kids. but I put on my big girl panty's and worked 3 jobs I was both mom and dad 30 years later my babies are Awesome adults and even better parents. I wouldn't trade those hard times for anything. thanks Tracy for keeping hope in my heart
Sometimes great music like this can inspire us & help us get a grip on life's shit, enjoy your children & your life,I'm one of life's cynics but music can still melt my heart & turn me all mushy lol
You crack me up. Some things are eternal. This song reaches into my soul. Amazing. I love it that when I hear her live she changes it subtly from the recorded version - like something live, it evolves.
+AbbyNormal777 +Vykier is right hun, think of today, everday is an oppurtunity to change. Tomorrow can be bright, nothing is set in stone. I hope you find happiness
+AbbyNormal777 find the thing that gives your life meaning - outside of earning money. Maybe its the music? maybe it's learning how to program a sequence of something? You've got all the answers to your life in yourself.
An extraordinary life and an extraordinary artist. Unconventional yet made herself rich by speaking her mind of poverty. Absolute legend. All the best Tracy you go like you have made everyone feel. ...
This song will always be in my heart. The night my grandmother died, I got into the car. Turned on the radio and this song started. She was my rock. Now i have a beautiful son. Who she never met, but he will know who she was. I know she is proud. Still everything i do is for her and her husband.
Think we've all been there once in life. This song has a lot of significance for me, not a driver but brings me back to a time when I was struggling to bring my son up in the midst of a volatile relationship. Now at University and hoping to qualify in Special Needs Education, son is at school doing well and hoping to go to University to study media. Love the simplicity of this song
This is as real as music gets.Human,honest,vulnerable.Share this song with the younger generation, the kids,so they know that music can actually mean something and give you comfort
What happen to songs and artists who had heart and soul and who made songs with meaning that touched our deepest emotions. I hope at some time in the future we return to the art of music and not the business of it.

Every time I listen to this woman I think of that opportunity and regret it. Love her music!

Jake Vermeulen Judging the fact that fact that there are tons of comments on this video mistaking Tracy for a man and literally almost none on prince videos mistaking him for a woman I would say Tracy is actually androgynous.
Shes androgynous lol. Deep voice, androgynous style, and androgynous named. If Boy George wasn't named Boy George a lot of people would have confused him for a woman.
When it comes to Prince, I think what you're looking for is "metro." Usually considered someone who is definitely male, but with a strong interest in fashion, appearance, grooming to what can be considered "effeminate" levels in some cultures. He was amazing. There was no doubt that he was a man though. Tracy is androgynous, aka not appearing distinctly male or female. There's nothing wrong with it at all, it's just a matter of her not having super feminine features, added to a deeper voice, an androgynous way of dressing and a not distinctly male or female name, it's not surprising. I freaking love Tracy Chapman and was confused myself the first time I saw her.
What a touching strong song, about pain, loss, rejection and still holding on to inner core strength. I have loved this song since I first heard it. I am more of Rock in Roller at heart but this song just rings way too true. I am a man but I hold the upmost respect for the women trying to break free of the poverty cycle with out the support of the man she believed in. This song is not about running away from life but trying to run to a better life then discovering the cycle is repeating.
I have absolutely loved this song ever since the very first time I heard it: Jackson (Rodger) Curboy, my beau at the time, and I were driving in his fun little red Miata, ragtop down, to have a nice dinner with music (Fiske and Herrera were playing an acoustic night- still one of my faves) at the Ugly Duckling (at the time it was the Whistling Swan's upstairs informal eatery) in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. He told me he really loved Tracy's music and, when I said I had absolutely fallen in love with this song, he claimed I was "patronizing him" (he had trust and respect issues). I ended up buying the tape and wearing it out, replaying it a bajillion times during my many drives from Manchester to Sturbridge (love across the miles takes work!). Certainly HER VERY BEST effort. I don't know what it is that makes this song so beautiful- it's soothing, despite the sad subject matter, and the very simplicity of it is endearing to me. Maybe because it's about someone's true but simple dreams that persevere for a while and their ultimate tilted windmill? Also, it doesn't matter if you hear this live or recorded- it's just as soul touching either way. I simply love it! I'm on rewind #16 on TH-cam already!

Our World is full of beautiful caring people and you are one of them. I had my heart totally ripped out of my body many years ago but music kept me together and I slowly recovered.

I love a song that you can feel.................... and no matter how many times you listen ( trust me its been a few over the years ), it never gets old and sounds as fresh as the day you first heard it........
Tall or short, black or white, straight or gay, male or female, fat or thin, religious or atheist, intelligent or moronic, none of this matters when you are beautiful in your own unique way.
If the world had to turn into a The Walking Dead zombie Apocalypse, I'd make sure to throw my cat to the zombies to buy enough time to save my Tracy Chapman records.
I always thought Tracy Chapman was from the Republic of Ireland. After reading her Biography I found out she was born in Cleveland/ Ohio/ USA. Anyway great song!
i sometimes feeling bad things. i sometimes think that i am living empty. i want to do everything. but i can not do anything. then i am listening that song. that songs' sentences are so much amazing. . just go away and do everyting with your lover.
Mohammed Laborious Alom I think that is not the point, at first when I only heard her voice and did not know her name yet I also thought she was a man. :)
I'm glad I could listen to this version after the hideous Jonas cover. What a relief!

so true
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Plain and simple
This song and Atlantic City by Bruce Springstein are the best lyrics ever written
Days in war torn country, caught up in devastating poverty and conflict. This was ma song that used to give me hope one day I will escape out and drive on an inter state highway while the city lights lay a head of me. The wishes and the dreams given to me out of this song came true now for me. I live in the US. God is merciful.
Tracy can sing just as well live as she can in a studio. This woman is totally awesome. Tell people about her!
At first I thought he was a guy sigh but still she's really awesome ❤️

Tracy Chapman is so amazing! Wish she would go on tour, would totally love to hear "Fast Car" and "Talking 'bout a Revolution" live!!
What happen to songs and artists who had heart and soul and who made songs with meaning that touched our deepest emotions. I hope at some time in the future we return to the art of music and not the business of it.
"My momma went off and left him".....heart drops.
In 2008, I lived in the south of France, a town called Orange. Tracy played Marseille, a nearby large city, that December. I really wanted to go, but I had work at 8am the following morning, and had no way of getting back in time. At that young age, the thought of pretending to be ill did not occur. Every time I listen to this woman I think of that opportunity and regret it. Love her music!

Agreed! The live version is so much better!
This is a concert I want to go to, no phones, everyone's listening to the actual artist, no screaming fan girls
I'd like to go to a concert like this too
This was the first song that I ever heard and said I like that song. I was a little kid and the song absolutely fascinated me in a really good way and I just thought it was so beautiful. I feel tears in my eyes everytime I hear it
That was beautifully moving.
Beauty in a beast mode. Tryna stay comfortably numb.
Love you Tracy! Your music touches my soul babe!!
Im listening to this over 30 times already.. Not bad for this song.
Me too... I think it's the best Song on the whole world! :)
I haven't heard this song in years...I thought about it yesterday...now here I am and I am crying.
I still get chills from this song, and live makes it just that much more real
A beautiful song too many people can relate to.
One of the greatest songs of all-time. Lyrics actually have meaning and soul, something current music lacks.
When music had heart.
Leon Mateo Escovar Bernal Still does.
Music will come back. Art never dies it just becomes re imagined.
Leon, Absolutely right. Where is the passion in music anymore
Hearts grow they break and them ambers produce flames.as ashes fall people take their places and prayers get mafe

why in the world are people in these comments thinking Tracy is a man... she's clearly a woman! She sounds and looks like a woman. Come on, people.
Her voice is very deep and can be mistaken for a guys voice and she has a very androgynous style.
OMG!! I just know that Tracy is a woman by your comment!! I thought she is a man all the time...

my favorite song of all time. my heart , any heart is this song if it's pure in love.
There is an African inflexion to her voice that brings great depth to her deep lyrics. Tracey C is one in a million of gifted artists.
This is so much better than the garbage remake that's Charting right now!!
This Beautiful song remember our lovely Ayrton Senna!❤️🌹
Thank you Tracy, you're amazing!!!😍🌺
You got a fast car
I want a ticket to anywhere
Maybe we make a deal
Maybe together we can get somewhere
Any place is better
Starting from zero got nothing to lose
Maybe we'll make something
Me myself I got nothing to prove
You got a fast car
I got a plan to get us out of here
I been working at the convenience store
Managed to save just a little bit of money
Won't have to drive too far
Just 'cross the border and into the city
You and I can both get jobs
And finally see what it means to be living
See my old man's got a problem
He live with the bottle that's the way it is
He says his body's too old for working
His body's too young to look like his
My mama went off and left him
She wanted more from life than he could give
I said somebody's got to take care of him
So I quit school and that's what I did
You got a fast car
Is it fast enough so we can fly away?
We gotta make a decision
Leave tonight or live and die this way
So remember when we were driving driving in your car
Speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder
And I had a feeling that I belonged
I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
You got a fast car
We go cruising, entertain ourselves
You still ain't got a job
And I work in a market as a checkout girl
I know things will get better
You'll find work and I'll get promoted
We'll move out of the shelter
Buy a bigger house and live in the suburbs
So remember when we were driving driving in your car
Speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder
And I had a feeling that I belonged
I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
You got a fast car
I got a job that pays all our bills
You stay out drinking late at the bar
See more of your friends than you do of your kids
I'd always hoped for better
Thought maybe together you and me find it
I got no plans I ain't going nowhere
So take your fast car and keep on driving
So remember when we were driving driving in your car
Speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder
And I had a feeling that I belonged
I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
You got a fast car
Is it fast enough so you can fly away?
You gotta make a decision
Leave tonight or live and die this way

Ty znajdziesz pracę, a ja dostanę awans
Ty pijesz do późna w barze
Więc weź swój szybki samochód i jedź dalej
Odchodzisz dzisiaj, albo żyjesz i umierasz w ten sam sposób

There should be a SuPer DuPer Like👍 button on youtube for songs of this brilliance.

Surely loved this incredible song, upon first ever hearing it, as I'm sure so many others had as well, my intro to Tracy!! XO
Music with love, heart, passion and love.
Just love her music and voice.
I always thought Tracy Chapman was from the Republic of Ireland. After reading her Biography I found out she was born in Cleveland/ Ohio/ USA. Anyway great song!
Was it her lyrics that made you think that? :)
