    Great tutorial, I have a log at my gym and I've messed with the log a few times prior to this video but never could get the feel for it and I felt as though the weight I was able to do was limited because of it. Used the cues in this vid and it felt noticeably better.

    I don't think I'll ever c & j a log but man Mr. Shaw does an amazing job of going into details explaining how to press it. I especially liked the cues of where you should feel it (i.e move it to your upper abdomen, tight back all the time, contact with the chest, etc...) he just seems like a all around good person and amazing athlete must be great to hang out with someone that is in the top of his respective sport

    I just started log pressing literally a little over a week ago. found a new gym and saw a log press, grabbed it and managed to get up to 220lbs the first day then I got 235lb right before Thanksgiving failed 240lbs. Everything felt good except I had a problem rolling the log up.. well today I looked up log press technique.. and Brian shaw which im a fan of saves the day. lol I mimicked the tilting the log forward and managed to get 250lbs (wasn't easy) .. I'm 5'9 235lbs so I feel that's not to bad, especially after starting out and only 3 sessions.. POINT IS IM THANKFUL FOR THE VIDEO!! lol GOAL is 300lbs eventually.

    What I like about log presses tho in general is how the grip is neutral and I like that. I mean Im use to doing regular overhead press with a straight bar but a neutral grip seems alot easier to use. It'd be nice if there was another type of equipment like the log press with neutral grips (even tho dumbells or kettlebells are options)

    I am curious about the leg drive, how much leg drive is too much? Should the press look more like a push press rather than a jerk?

    • @jettfuelfitness
      @jettfuelfitness 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most strongmen do push press because it’s easier to stay stable, but some use jerks if they think they can keep it stable.

  • @John-er1xd
    @John-er1xd 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Strict log pressing bothers the hell out of my elbows.

  • @Isaiah-ft5nx
    @Isaiah-ft5nx ปีที่แล้ว

    If we compare Brian’s height (6’8”) when he’s using a 12” log, that’s the equivalent of a 5’6” guy using a 10” log. Food for thought.

    Are you Shaw?

  • @TedZimnicki
    @TedZimnicki 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm curious why there are no Pro Strongmen that use a spilt jerk when log pressing. Olympic weightlifters have pressed equal to if not more weight than most contest logs using it, while not being significantly smaller then the average pro strongman. Is the log to unwieldy to jerk or is there another reason?

    • @Hyrppa95
      @Hyrppa95 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ted Zimnicki It's a bit hard to split jerk the log. Squat jerk is easier but requires more balance and mobility.

    does strongman not differentiate between press and push press? the "world record" lift at 1:03 isnt even starting off the ground, the elbows dont lock out at the top, control was never demonstrated.

    • @rorycreane7581
      @rorycreane7581 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Log press is overhead any way so you can split jerk, press, push press etc everyone has there own techniques and different comps will have different rules some may allow things some may not and as for judging the arnold is usually judged by Magnus ver Magnusson or someone else who knows a good lift when they see one
