    I know there a pest tree and grow everywhere but its best just cutting the one half and another off another tree cause you have just killed that top or if you are doing that do it right and create an airlayer on the tree after you do this! I am in the hobby myself but am a horticulturalst by trade and tree specialist but if you just cut the one side the tree will still have enuff sap and cambium to callus over and heal but not if cut a full ring you kill it!

    great ,now i know what to do with the sycamore that`s threatening to drop a branch on my caravan,, ring bark the buggers,,actually despite being a nature conservationist and not liking them at all in the past ,ive grown quite fond of the big one outside my kitchen window ,i like to hang the bird food on it ,i even put bird boxes on it but they were never used , in fact they support very little wildlife , but you can make nice spoons and what not out of the wood .. love your nature rambles mark thank you

    I love getting older. Instead of saying GET OFF MY LAWN, I just collect their baseballs when they lose them and cannot find them in my yard.
    I wish I wasn't so allergic to nettles. I hear you can make tea with them. They always leave oodles of stingers in me when I get near them.

    If you can find any Alder trees they are class for cones which have anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties (loads of tannins) so I'd imagine if you took the bark off like you did with the sycamore it would be an awesome one for breeding and also for shrimps too.
    Not sure about sycamore leaves as they produce a sap which may not be good for the water but oak and beech are really good ones for lowering pH.
    We had a large turkey oak in the garden but I chopped it down last year after gathering all the leaves up and drying them - I'll send some down for you as they are much bigger then English oak.

    • @MARKSAQUATICS

      Got loads of Alder trees by me and regularly pick them. I only use the fresh sprouted leaves of the sycamore .

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That should be OK as the sap does not come out of them until high summer - alder trees have a nation of uses, lol

    Very useful tips right there!
    I have one question here. I have a big bag of black mulberry (green powder) from last year that I bought to feed my batch of silkworms. Bought it from an online shop who breeds these caterpillars themselves and who make their food too. I know they put other stuff in it besides black mulberry, to lower their costs you know (they refuse to tell what other ingredients they use though LOL), so I have no idea if it would be okay to use that powder to make dried food out of it for my neo shrimp. Any advice you could give me? The bag is just sitting there in my cabinet, taking up space. Would be a shame if I had to dump it out, while it might be perfectly fine for the shrimp.
    Cheers.

      @@MARKSAQUATICS I appreciate that sycamore is a bit of a pest but I'm worried you didn't point out in the video that this shouldn't normally be done. You can identify tree types, others may not and could think it ok to do that with any tree.
