Mark, you are a truly generous man. You take the time to experiment and learn how to do these things and then give them away to us when you could easily keep it to yourself and sell the product. I really appreciate your efforts and thank you for assisting us.
So here's a thing. If you're going to store it in the family freezer, I can't stress enough the importance of clearly labelling it. Otherwise you end up with a supper of sausage and couscous, with a tomato, onion, garlic and duckweed sauce.
this is the main reason i grow duckweed. i bought some different species off a guy on facebook, so now I have like four species of duckweed. duckweed queen, LOL. i feed it to my chickens and worms and use it as a green manure around my gardens. loooooove this stuff!
I know most people hate Duckweed but i personally love it in my Betta and Black Platy Breeder tank. About once a week I make a scoop out of the excess and chuck it in the goldfish pond. Pretty tanks and free food.
Wow! never thought of this before. been tossing this stuff for years when I could have been making my own fish food out of it.. Thanks for the idea. keeping fish is a hobby. Why not make it support itself. dollars saved could be used for a new strain of fish or equipment..
Wow, I saw that video just now and I really want to try this out! Thanks for sharing this, Mark. I never thought about making my own shrimp food. And I have so much duckweed I toss out that often!
Hey mark! Any specific brand name of pollen you recommend buying to use for this? I honestly didn't know you could buy pollen until I watched this video and really want to try to make this for my shrimp! I throw out so much duckweed every week but not may have a new purpose for it! Thanks
My Shrimp go nuts whenever I put some of your food in the tank (thanks again for the nice sample, that I got with my pollen).....I may try this with spinach, since our garden is full with it 👍
where do you get the pollen? How do i do a search for it? What name? OOOkay, scratch that question, i just found your awesome online store! Ohhhhh man can hardly wait till payday hahah. You should link your store on your videos. Looks great and reasonable prices for sure.:)
Awesome idea for using Duckweed, here in Florida I have seen whole ponds and small lakes covered. I have a friend that is actually setting up a hydroponic type system of large commercial food grade containers to grow massive amounts of this true super food, it is a shame that this hasn't become accepted well by most as a great sustainable food source and even a bio-fuel. Thanks for sharing!
Okay Idea Place into double zip, freezer type bags. Roll down the bag Date bags Maybe add a solo drop of a supplement or vitamin Freeze in a rolled log manner Thaw in fridge for use Cut off end and pipe onto a algea wafer like a shrimp cupcake. Drop into tank Wafers sink, should.stick together, duel food, I'd imagine fun to watch them eat it. Treat as a treat or make the cupcakes right from the start and sheet freeze, then bag... Take from bag dwc duck weed cupcake, drop in tank frozen. If anyone uses this, please let me know! I just came up with the idea to post. Thanks always Mark!
Thank you Mark , but could you put in the oven ? anyways you're the best Mark ; master schrimp..the close up on your shrimps is amazing ; much love chris !
Aww thanks for remembering me! No just been so busy with other things right now. I am really glad to see how your channel has taken off you deserve it I love watching your videos.
great information. I am really looking to try this as I am cheap/broke. would you please post the recipe? I am half deaf and can not understand what it is you add to the duck weed. Thank you in advance sir. I have liked the video and subscribed to get every tidbit of knowledge. Thank you again.
WOW Mark!! You are so smart!! 😂 Thanks for the GREAT tip, because duckweed can be a pain 😉. Have a nice day!! or actually evening 😊. See you on the next stream!!
Hi Mark, Have you tried feeding this to any algae eating fish? I'm looking for an alternative food for them and I have lots on duckweeds as well in my tanks.
Hey Mark, at 02:54 u mention a binder but i can't really quite get what it is, "pollund" , "pollen"? Can u guide me a little to the correct name, and please while you are at it at 06:14? Would like to try this, i'm making food out of stinging nettles atm, and they are loving it, thanks for that one. And i have heaps of duckweed, that's why :D
Mark Thanks for all your info. I use the burning nettle and plan to try the duukweed. What do you think about adding some of the nettle to the duckweed blend. Have you tried it for fish.
Didn't see a particular mention of it in the comments, but is there any particular reason or benefit of freezing the duckweed? Or can it go straight from water to blender? Thanks.
Wonderful video and tutorial. Thank you for this. May I ask a question please. Is it ok to blend the duckweed when it is still raw (just taken out fresh from the aquarium). It seem yours were first dried and then blend.
I just got my hands on some duckweed, was wondering if I was to mash up some lawn fertilizer like a gram or two, that has phosphate and nitrogen and added to the duckweed, would it speed up its growth? I just want to use it as a straight up food for my fish.
Hey, Thx. :) I'm currently inundated with African Frogbit, so I should try to find if it has nutritional protein value, fiber content, et al. for use as DIY shrimp / fish food. Do you happen to know? Brought back fond memories of my family's restaurant and candy business. My great uncle was the candy maker. He'd pour out various candies onto a water cooled table after he had clamped down four (4) stainless steel bars. Then he'd use another bar as a grate to level it all out to a uniform thickness. So, huge THX for that! :) With a 3D printer one could create and print various molds, like rounds, squares, whatever, etc.
very smart. Surely they need other variety in their diets though like eggs, milk, some other random veggies added into this mix to round out their nutrients. You can also dry via toaster oven for 4 hours on 150f.
this is amazing. i have tons of duckweed and now i have use for them one question, can i made the food without pollen? not sure where to obtain them, or can I use other substitute for that?
Mark, you are a truly generous man. You take the time to experiment and learn how to do these things and then give them away to us when you could easily keep it to yourself and sell the product. I really appreciate your efforts and thank you for assisting us.
The way I gain is by helping people overall ,thank you Bruce :)
So here's a thing. If you're going to store it in the family freezer, I can't stress enough the importance of clearly labelling it. Otherwise you end up with a supper of sausage and couscous, with a tomato, onion, garlic and duckweed sauce.

Is duckweed a superfood?🤣
Duckweed is eaten in curries and soups in southeast Asia! Just gotta boil and clean it
LOL Perfect.
this is the main reason i grow duckweed. i bought some different species off a guy on facebook, so now I have like four species of duckweed. duckweed queen, LOL. i feed it to my chickens and worms and use it as a green manure around my gardens. loooooove this stuff!

Hi Mark,
Have you tried feeding this to any algae eating fish? I'm looking for an alternative food for them and I have lots on duckweeds as well in my tanks.

Quick question, what happens if you use only duckweed, no other additives?
It doesnt sink so well without the clay
Plz tell me about white powder u use i don't know about
Mark Thanks for all your info. I use the burning nettle and plan to try the duukweed. What do you think about adding some of the nettle to the duckweed blend. Have you tried it for fish.
nice, thank you for sharing this one bro, I have loads of duckweeds in the pond he he
Would this work with other floating plants like Salvinia Minima?
Didn't see a particular mention of it in the comments, but is there any particular reason or benefit of freezing the duckweed? Or can it go straight from water to blender? Thanks.
Only reason was to save it up to be processed Andrew.
Good vid nice tank 🐙🦑🦀🦐🐠🐟🐡🐬🐋🐳🐅
Thank you Fish Fool soon to be Shrimp Fool ?
What happens if we don't freeze it before blending it? Will the blended pieces comeback to life later on?
yes sir ,Ive had it grow back from bits that looked dead before.
@@MarksShrimpTanks even after being dried?
What is the white stuff you added? Do you think I can use water lettuce, its leaves and roots, instead of ducksweed? Thanks for all the videos!
Montmorillonite clay, you can use any calcium for it.
Wonderful video and tutorial. Thank you for this. May I ask a question please. Is it ok to blend the duckweed when it is still raw (just taken out fresh from the aquarium). It seem yours were first dried and then blend.

I dont but I will try and find out
Duckweed is good protein. Maybe try adding some spinach to the mix or baby kale!
very good idea thank you :)
I've been killing off duckweed in all of my tanks except for one.. And I think that one remaining tank will have to continue to grow duckweed now!

finally I'm making this today lol I have but 1/4 of what u had in that bucket can I make it without anything added into it?
To be honest I an not sure it will hold together, you can use flour as a binder if you want or something like agar :)
Hi Mark!!! what's that polvo added after having mixed the plants with pólen.... I saw you adding with a white spoon. What is that??
Its a mineral clay called montmorillonite :)
this is amazing. i have tons of duckweed and now i have use for them
one question, can i made the food without pollen? not sure where to obtain them, or can I use other substitute for that?
oh yes you can use it without pollen, duckweed on its own is a very good food :)
Thanks! i will try it out. hope my shrimp like it
I've been wanting to get some to grow for my koi. No aquarium stores around here have it. They consider it a pest plant. I'll get some eventually.
I sell the stuff loads of people do,You will probably get someone near you that will give it to you or sell it .
Ya, I'm patient, have to be in this hobbie right? I'll get what I need.........😃😃 thanks Mark!
Hello Mark! If I wanted to find some powdered clay, what would I ask for when I call my local vitamin store?
Thank you in advance!
Montmorillonite clay
What type of.shrimp u have?
Hi mark. Could I use an egg as the binding agent? Maybe add some flour or powdered spinach or cornflour for it to thicken?
