My bloody mary's thank you for this video, I live in what seems to be Nettle-city The Netherlands and with your 3-minute-boild-tip they now actually eat it and seem to love it!
yes I have done that before, after its frozen you can add it straight to the tanks as it is and it will break down faster than fresh because it was frozen, its a great food.
Hi Mark, i was wondering what you use in your Blue tiger tank (soil and what not). I am going to set up my own blue tiger tank, and since you are my go to shrimp guy i would like to know what you have done so that i can (hopefully) succeed.
Hello Bimon , I have breed them on both sand and an active substrate so they dont seem to be fussy that way ..both time though they took months to start breeding like they need a settling in period.
We don't have the luxury of having such free plants in Singapore. I would just get some organic spinach from the supermarket and feed the shrimps a leaf at a time.
hi mark .advise please . my shrimp dont seem to like anything i feed them .peas spinach banana pellet food etc etc. they only feed on the almond leaves. any idears.cheers
Yes I do, I used to collect all my nettle myself by hand but you can image how much work is involved and my back is no longer up to it so I just buy all the ingredients now.
Is the grade normal ? no these are painted fire reds but you will see cherry shrimp swimming around too because they are the same shrimp just a different grade. To get mines a darker red I have to take out all the lighter ones every week :)
No its a company that has all the rights for it I pay a licence fee to use their music, I will get you a link :) player.epidemicsound.com/search/?search_query=japan%20girl
Hi Mark, recently started watching your videos as I'll be getting some Crystal Red, Black and Golden Bee for my heavily planted tank soon. How often would you recommend feeding nettles to the shrimp? Great videos :-)
Hello sir ,You could feed them this a couple of times a week , feed a high protein food once a week and I do no food at all at the week end and thats when I do my water changes :)
Thank you for the info both of you. I have a patch of these in the backyard and I heard they are hard to differentiate. I didn't want to feed the American version if it wasn't any good for the Shrimp!
What happens is I lose all the goods and I have to pay refunds so I dont do it anymore, the people I know in Australia tell me they are meant to get customs messages but never do.
Have you tried steaming the nettles so the nutrients stay in the leaves and don't cook out into the cooking water? Nettle tea is great for us because you are drinking the nutrients that leach into the water.
I have not but you are correct that is the best way to cook them, I have been drinking nettle tea recently because its meant to be full of antihistomine and my sinus blocks up every single time I lay down but so far it hasnt done anything... I can buy a nasal spray here that fixes it but my doctor has told me you can get addicted to them.
So with the nasal spray: You won;t get addicted if you use them carefully. Addicted meaning your nose will swell closed for about a day if you stop using spray constantly in both nostrils. (I knew someone truly using it way too much and she destroyed her sinus linings.) So when I was pregnant and couldn;t breath at night because of allergies and a cold, my doc told me to use one squirt in one nostril only each night. Then alternate nostrils each night. That seems to be the key to keeping one sinus clear to breath through at night and yet not get swelling during the day or anytime. I use one squirt nightly in one nostril and have been for years because of allergies. Sometimes I forget and don't sleep well, as I would toss side to side to clear my nose to breath, but it is not a swelling reaction to the spray. During the day I do fine with an allergy pill. (Used to get monthly shots)
I dont get what causes it because it seems to just start to happen when I lay down ,I would rather not use nasal sprays if I can find another solution but everything else I have tried so far hasnt worked ..I hear eating a chilli pepper unblocks a nose fst so I might look into that hahaha
I actually did again hahahahaha I am having a problem with my nose blocking up at night and eating them is meant to help so far its not done anything :(

Super bro, can I use nettle(growing in my home, Kerala) leaf instead of stinging nettle
I need to go out and collect nettles!
You do hahaha😜
Have you ever tried comfrey for your shrimp?
not yet
Can you freeze nettle and get out of the freezer when needed. How do you go about doing it
yes I have done that before, after its frozen you can add it straight to the tanks as it is and it will break down faster than fresh because it was frozen, its a great food.
How long do you leave the leaf in the tank or just leave it there for shrimp to finish it s up????
Normally 1-2hrs
Thanks, Mark! Love your channel !

Thank you Bimon :)
Bimon22 good luck man. I just got mine to breed! They do like a little wait period.
We don't have the luxury of having such free plants in Singapore. I would just get some organic spinach from the supermarket and feed the shrimps a leaf at a time.
Good choice
hi mark .advise please . my shrimp dont seem to like anything i feed them .peas spinach banana pellet food etc etc. they only feed on the almond leaves. any idears.cheers
They will like all that stuff if they get to much food they just dont eat , try not feeding the tank for a week
Maby a bit of a stupid question but in your nettle mix do you use the same type of nettles?
Yes I do, I used to collect all my nettle myself by hand but you can image how much work is involved and my back is no longer up to it so I just buy all the ingredients now.
Thanks for another informative video Mark. Can I ask, is there a right or a wrong time of the year to pick and gather the nettles?
Hello Mike I pick them as soon as the start growing till they start dying and I only really use the new leaf growth on the plant.
Thanks for the help Mark, really appreciated.
8:30 is that normal RCS or red fire ?
Is the grade normal ? no these are painted fire reds but you will see cherry shrimp swimming around too because they are the same shrimp just a different grade. To get mines a darker red I have to take out all the lighter ones every week :)
awesome !, thanks !, thinking to also do culling soon
are dead nettle leaves also okay? Or only the stinging
Dry Nettles are fine
Marks Shrimp Tanks yeah, but i mean the ones with the flowers, they are called dead nettles I think. So not the stinging ones
Hi Mark, another question. I noticed a container marked nettles in your freezer on one of your videos. How do prepare the nettles for freezing? :-)
I pick them and freeze them as they are ..for preperation just put them in boiling water for a minute or two :)
Tanks (get it lol) for the reply Mark. Nettles picking I will go!! :-)
did you make the japan girl song because i cant seem to find it online? Its beautiful

Work many moons ago, I got a job offer that was very good :)
Marks Shrimp Tanks one can only dream of an opportunity like that haha
Is is it safe to feed American Stinging Nettle just as you do the European? Both exist here in New York.
Yes I think so,one is just a sub species of the other I think.
KP's AquaHouse the seed are awesome to eat too, I roast them like peanuts, great natural snack for us
Thank you for the info both of you. I have a patch of these in the backyard and I heard they are hard to differentiate. I didn't want to feed the American version if it wasn't any good for the Shrimp!

I live in Norway but I am from Scotland :)

Marks Shrimp Tanks I love it all the same, it’s always even better in our accent :D x
Jeez, Mark, try not to eat 'em this time!
I actually did again hahahahaha I am having a problem with my nose blocking up at night and eating them is meant to help so far its not done anything :(
What is your accent? You sound Scottish...
colder water = bigger shrimp = longer life = less breeding
I actually notice of camera alot of the girls in that tank are berried :)
