As a player that started in 2022, it was Copacabana set that finally pushed me into MTG. It's so different in terms of blending in that American 20's glided age with high fantasy. The art, the lore, the card style themselves are all top notch. While not popular, I still enjoy using cards from the set and wouldn't be surprised if Rudy's prediction materializes.
I love the aesthetic of Streets and how it looks, it's beautiful. I never drafted it though, and I heard that was a bad experience to avoid. Oh, and yes, Bastion of Remembrance is about 3-4 bucks a pop

I don't think it was the theming, but the execution. The mob aesthetic is pretty cool. But the art felt really hyper clean and tiptoeing. The set is about organized crime and the high-life, but there's pretty much no violence, sex appeal, and the flavor fell flat... to me, anyway. But I do think it'll do well longterm, probably.

Ikoria was the first set I got into after a 10 year hiatus. It was amazing experience and I'm glad to watch it again. Also it was my first purchase from old rudy boy. Happy to have held onto a batch of these boxes
was about 20 years for me ; by the time ikoria hit and i got back into it. it wasn't ikoria itself that got me back; it were the triomes. i have never seen those before and when i saw them; i knew . LOL. so it got me back into collecting but also playing on arena; which was the catalyst to all of this.
My buddy recent bought a box of streets and he now regards it as gis favorite set. He even bought a collector box bc they were so cheap. The flavor of the aet is on point and from what he's been playing I've been liking it too. I think people just don't see the humor of the set.
I still love streets. The aesthetic and atmosphere is just completely different than all the other planes. The power level just isn't there and the land cycle is really the only redeeming part of the set, but I do hope they revisit it in a couple years and do it more justice. Doubtful though.
I remember playing a new capenna draft at my university a week before prerelease because my counselor knew had a friend that ran an LGS or knew some distributors and hooked him up. The draft was so fun and I got so many cool cards from it, this was me and my playgroups graduation present and this set holds a special place in my heart. It saddens me that people couldn’t enjoy this set as much as I did, I really love this set and the aesthetic and everything about it. I even loved the magic arena map and music that played in that map for this set.
Hey at least we got to play Ikoria Turbo draft on Arena. That format was actually so fun, like 90's sidewalk kids using black lotus and power 9 to pump out 5 mana vanilla 4/4s lmao

This set reminds me of Hearthstone’s Mean Streets of Gadgetzan. I feel like compared to Hearthstone there just wasn’t a lot drawing you into the different groups. Each group was a little bit different but not enough that you could immediately differentiate which card fits in where. Hearthstone on the other hand had different mechanics for each group that would immediately tell you who the card belongs to. I think the vibe of gangsters also isn’t something you’d immediately associate with the MTG universe. On top of that it felt like a set with so many new characters that it’s hard to really connect it to the characters that everyone knows. Who knows, maybe it ends up being a set/plane like Kamegawa that everyone initially hated but the rerelease is a big hit.
Bought a case of Streets shortly afert christmas with 67€ per box. I also think it is a nice set. Just look at the foil showcase with those golden border. They are awesome!
I don't remember if I opened a draft box of ikoria. I remember that if you want triomes then you open collector boxes. They were overloaded with triomes
Streets Collector Booster Box just had a dump on Amazon Rip to anyone who missed it, got it for £108 other stores are selling it about 190-200 haven't seen anything lower than that here and now the Amazon one is gone up to £233. Got super lucky there. On another note Streets is underrated. Jetmir and Raffine are still two highly good commanders, Ledger, Herse, Professional Face-Break are only rares so easy to pull hell you have Slip at just a uncommon and the amount of times that just won the game for me is ridiculous. Gala Greeters is actually a good card. The lands even the cheap search trio ands are still used in many decks if you have a bulk of them that's gonna add up and who knows when they reprint lands like this again? The funny thing about the set it was more commander legends than baldur's gate which is insane to me people haven't realise that yet but I bet they will when the set's been longer out of print. Then that's not mentioning Gilding foil which I think looks awesome so someone else must then one day someone will be hey I really want Raffine in Gilded Foil welp it ain't £40 anymore I can tell you that.
Someone doing box openings commented how they struggled to crack into Sheoldred while they found other mythics more readily in the set. Even looking at MTGA, I'm seeing a trend with the rare lands in digital packs. They seem harder to pull. In Ravnica Allegiance and Guilds, I was getting about 3 shock lands in 45 rares (or 5 in 90 rares) (1 rare = 1 MTGA booster pack). In Dominaria U, that was only 3 pain lands (despite having 6 targets, rather than 5 pain lands) in 76 rares. Brother's War was only 2 pain lands in 80 rares. Last set I measured like this was Streets, getting 3 triomes in 74 rares. Technically there are more rares in the newer sets, thus diluting your chances slightly (if all rares a equally as likely) but not quite like this. (I'll try to update this comment when I run the numbers to find the odds of how unlucky I was but I'm calling that there are weighted rares and weighted mythics. You have odds to open any rare, lets just say 100% and mythics didnt exist but the odds of hitting a desirable rare vs a bulk rare feel like there is a tilt towards bulk)(and before you ask, these numbers are before crafting any. So I opened 74 boosters, getting 3 triomes from Streets, before I crafted any).

I like streets because me and my kids each have a family deck that we are always changing to stay top mob family. Not only that the art is a nice change from the norm 👌
70% complete, that ain't bad. Even though it is already in the time of too many variants if you ask me. They look good, but you can't see what card it is from a quick look at the board. You got 2-3 of them on the board, different art and it could just as well be three totally different cards.
Ledger Shredder's the most expensive card around 20. After that, the triomes are around 8-12, Unlicensed Herse is around 10. Putting this set together was interesting. Buying 30-40 rares for under 30 bucks.
Ikoria box ditched the triome challenge and said I'm working on the companion challenge. I opened 3 to 4 ikoria collectors + packs and never got a lurrus.
I don't collect MTG, obviously..but I like the gangster theme of New Cappenna. If I was to invest in MTG, I'd buy that set and crimson vow...maybe some Baldurs Gate. The cheap and unliked stuff will be sought after 5 or 10 years from now. Most ppl aren't hoarding sealed product of those sets (Rudy is saying the same as I type). Double Feature is a cool set, too. But what do I know??...nothing.

Ikoria as a plane had so much potential but it feel flat as a day old soda. I wanted to see humans survive against monsters but it ended up just being a “monsters are misunderstood” hippy circlejerk
I think the majority of players dislike sets geared around 3 colors. It makes cards hyper specific to those colors and if you just want to play 1 or 2 colors in your decks, then that set has only a limited amount of stuff that will fit your playstyle. I don't think this was a bad set, I think it would have been better if it had less three color ID cards.

Many current players dont care about spending alot on magic, who can blame them with the current climate of everything. Commander is the current go to format to play (coming from someone who started by playing standard and modern in 2017 who now exclusively plays commander). The community in commander is very understanding and casual, so you'll see many players accept proxies and be willing to substitute cards to fit power levels of the play groups. It feels like the competitive formats are very stagnant, very few new players try modern anymore and non premium stores do not host standard events anymore because no one turns out.
They had to errata the entire mechanic! You cannot play the cards by reading them. Financially or not, even if Ikoria goes to 1000$ a box, will it be a better set than Dragon's Maze. You can't play the entire companion mechanic as it's printed on the cards. 30 years from now, when it is worth that much, or here's hoping for 10x that for yer heavy bags, they'll still be the sets where reading the cards DOESN'T tell you how they work. The panic at the thought of just banning an entire rare cycle led to a far worse decision in my opinion. which was to just say, "by the way, these cards don't work like that anymore. Just uhh, buy the next one pretty please and we'll try not to break fundamental rules of the game for a neato idea." Could you imagine the Judges union's reaction to.....oh wait, that was never a thing? and what musta went down at all the tournaments. oh, canceled too? oh.....oh man.....what a debacle. And you know what, they are still good products, with fun times to be had. Please Restructure HASBRO With the Rudy-rebuild Model.
