Yeah, you got screwed. Live and learn. If there's a next time. Make a detailed list. Estimate size/weight. Use that to estimate time/trips/gas. And last, estimate how much money is likely to be made. Then decide how much of that your going to need for your labor/gas. Once you have that info then go into discussions with the client.
4:15 I pulled about that many metal shelves out of a dumpster that was an old grocery store clean out. Looks like a fun couple of days. Yes you got a truck of wheels you still have to process and a great video that will hopefully get you some more subscribers (hey, if you are not subscribed, please do so!) but you brought a lot to the table. You know how to prepare and sort the scrap and where to bring it to get good value. Without someone like you, he would have had to hire a dumpster to haul that away and would have lost money instead of making money. Next time I would ask for a cut. Great video!
It clearly is! I imagine it’s a bit like the comforting feeling of a familiar object with happy memories tied to it becoming an addiction and clinging to the little bits of nostalgia from each of them all together in a big pile.
I left it better than I found it with a like and a comment 😉👍 P.s. I enjoyed the video as well, it's always interesting to see what others find value in enough to horde/collect them.
Wish that I could of seen this video sooner. I think it's about time to invest in a dump trailer, don't you think? A great score! Old electrics speakers and a CRT monitor...
Random thought for ppl with pickups. I ended up making a wooden bed extension for my truck and it fits in the gap between the tailgate and the bed plus I’ll tie it down with cords. Gives me another 2 1/2 feet with my bed. Comes in handy for me thought other scrappers may like the idea.
That’s quite a haul! I am getting antsy, because I see these vids and there was an article in a NY paper about a mom making $1000 a week dumpster-diving, and I can’t do this! I am waiting on a doctor to look at my shoulder, see what the damage is, but I have found I really moss going out and collecting all this stuff that would otherwise end up in a dump somewhere. Thanks for the great video, Thub! Keep doing the thing, I am living vicariously through you now.
I knew what you meant 🤣 I hope you get back to nearly full strength soon buddy! Could take some time but I don’t think you’re out for good 👍 might not be deadlifting any cast iron engine blocks for a good while but maybe this just pushes you to get a trailer with a winch, then you won’t have to strain?
@@thubprint Funny you say this - I drove by a pile of stuff out by the side of the road here so I had to stop & take a look. It was what turned out to be 85 pounds of stainless steel and over 100 pounds of prepared steel in the form of pipe. $37 US for the stainless alone, another $11 for the prepared, but my left arm is sore now! 🤣 The funny thing is... I *like* doing this. If only it was more regular (my area is dropping off some the past two months) and I wouldn't hurt my old self so much! I envy your youth (I am 50).
I do deceased estates quite regularly and generally buy the lot! Goodies and scrap (and often have to deal with the rubbish too - depending on the job). I get some good content for my channel as well - but I do make sure I get good value for my time and all expenses covered! I feel you undervalue your time & efforts Thub. Just sayin'.. Really enjoyed the vid all the same 👍😊
Thanks for the input! It does seem like a great way to get a whole heap of goodies all at once, but after all that sweat and fuel I think I’ll ask for a bit more next time 😂
You should take those batteries as well with your scrap. Where I’m from if you bring them to an O’Reilly auto parts you get $10 in store credit for every battery. So there is $40 of scrap batteries in the beginning of your video. 👍
Load more in the truck make a fuller load side rails are made for a reason Your time is worth money you just got taken for a lot of money Remember they need to pay you for your time and fuel. Either that or split the scrap money because by the time you pay local trash yard to dispose of all those tires your going to be out some cash. Either that or paint those things and make some art displays and sale them.
We get free tire dropoff at the city dump for tires so that’s not a concern, but you’re absolutely right about the rest of it. Even with that I basically broke even with nothing for my time. The next ones I made sure to talk about money before doing the job!
Scapping is a skill that you have learned to enable you to earn extra cash. I am at a loss as to the logic of you not being compensated for your time and resources. I believe most "friends" would have offered such compensation.
I certainly could have pulled a LOT of ewaste from this heap! I don’t have a good place to sell boards to in my area so I focused on the stuff that would pay well without too much time invested

@@thubprint I've watched some documentaries on it. As scrappers we are always around it and on the verge...if we're not careful.
I left it better than I found it with a like and a comment 😉👍
P.s. I enjoyed the video as well, it's always interesting to see what others find value in enough to horde/collect them.
You sure did! 💙 And 100%, that’s why I wanted to do this so badly!
@@thubprint was a great idea and I hope you do more.
Wish that I could of seen this video sooner. I think it's about time to invest in a dump trailer, don't you think? A great score! Old electrics speakers and a CRT monitor...
If I want to do many more of these a dum
Random thought for ppl with pickups. I ended up making a wooden bed extension for my truck and it fits in the gap between the tailgate and the bed plus I’ll tie it down with cords. Gives me another 2 1/2 feet with my bed. Comes in handy for me thought other scrappers may like the idea.
That sounds really cool! I find I hit my weight limit pretty easily with the 6’ as it is, but if I upgrade the truck it could be worthwhile 👍
Decent score disguised as a jackpot galore 🤷🏻
And you left it better than you found it 😁
I’m just out here having a good time! Though you can hardly tell the difference between before and after lol
*miss, not moss.
I knew what you meant 🤣
I hope you get back to nearly full strength soon buddy!
Fast time on your channel, learned a lot and very enjoyable to watch! You are good at what you do, thumbs up and subscribed! Keep it up!
Well thanks so much, and thank you for saying hi! I’m just doing my best out here, so I really appreciate your kind words 😊
Your a cool dude, Thub.
Sometimes you just have to leave it better than you found it bro!
You know it! Felt like a good couple of days to me 👌
I think you did a hell of a job bro hell I'm new to this scrap game I've already got 300 lb of copper
Thumbs UP
Good vid thub. I wouldn't mind seeing more like this, although I hope for better profits in the future
Appreciate it!
Well Thub I think you did an excellent job! Decent $$$. Kudos 👍👍👍
Never mind…I spoke too soon.
😂
holyy thats alotta scrap
It was a bunch!
I dig it.
Thanks!
That would be a perfect place for me. I would take it all
You must have a way bigger garage than me! 🤣
that was crazy he was probably laughing all the way to the bank
Yeah, I think they both did well overall 😆
What? You worked for two days just for the rims? They should pay you for the scrap cleanup or let you keep all the scrap.
Bro I can see you picking up scrap in New Orleans after a hurricane
there is gold mine there for ebay sales!!!
Great video like always!!!!
I had a great time!
It does seem like a great way to get a whole heap of goodies all at once, but after all that sweat and fuel I think I’ll ask for a bit more next time 😂
@@thubprint I think you should get 1/3rd. 3 parties in the deal 3 way split.
Great video hope this pays off for doing all this work!
Well we’re gonna find out! 😆
Love your videos and content
Thanks!
Nice haul! I’d really be tempted to rent a trailer at Home Depot or something to make less trips cuz I have a shorter truck bed.
Yea, I think I’m getting to the point where if I had a trailer I would use it a couple times a year
You should take those batteries as well with your scrap. Where I’m from if you bring them to an O’Reilly auto parts you get $10 in store credit for every battery. So there is $40 of scrap batteries in the beginning of your video. 👍
They definitely have value, but I just take them to the scrapyard and get cash rather than store credit
Load more in the truck make a fuller load side rails are made for a reason
Your time is worth money you just got taken for a lot of money
Remember they need to pay you for your time and fuel.
Ok you answered my question in the video
Dang I would LOVE to hit that estate sale! It's a true digger sale and lots of treasure hunters love cleaning them out.
I was there late, I can only imagine what was there in the weeks before I saw it!
@@thubprint And you're not sure you want to?
Great video!
Ty ☺️
Gold mine wow
One man’s garbage is another man’s good un-garbage!
Love it bro awesome
😊
Scapping is a skill that you have learned to enable you to earn extra cash. I am at a loss as to the logic of you not being compensated for your time and resources. I believe most "friends" would have offered such compensation.
Agree
I guess I just wanted to see what was buried there 😄
Sometimes when you help others, there is no monetary gain, only spiritual.
I like your scrap things ;)
New subscriberrr just saw some E scraps lot of things that's so expensive & useful👍
I certainly could have pulled a LOT of ewaste from this heap! I don’t have a good place to sell boards to in my area so I focused on the stuff that would pay well without too much time invested
@@thubprint if I be there I can buy some computer stuffs (CPUs smps and some old laptop batteries) and I can modify them everything comes under DIY Haha... ;)
Anyway keep up the awesome vlogs Bro... 👍
You got it! Maybe I could learn some cool things to do with batteries from you 😉
@@thubprint 😁👍
wont the magnet test work on brass??
I have followed for while now and appreciate the content and vibe of your work. I know that there are multiple aspects of what you did in this video that you need to sort out but from my side of the screen I liked the video and would like to see more (if you can work out a more equitable arrangement with the home owners and estate sale people it was a bit grating to see someone taking advantage of a "friend"). I also appreciate your quiet, toe curling rage of frustration regarding the copper. It's all good.
Thanks for considering the different angles! If I do another one like this I will have to ask for fair pay for my time and gas 👍
