Dumpster Diving - Weighs More Than it Looks Like!

- What a day dumpster diving! We braved the cold and the wind and the snow to get out there and find some treasure, and it was a spectacular success. Big piles of metal in some bins had the truck dragging by the end of the day, and we finished with a pretty impressive payout for a single run!

Idk but when you have a buddy with you I would think about some team lifts on that weight but then again. Your a spring chicken compared to me though

Scrapping in the snow is like a blindfolded frosty lucky dip. That insulation made me wince, I'd have passed on that.

Thub You should consider buying storage auctions. There is a mess of scrap from palladium, gold, silver, and tons of copper. And you make all your money back by selling all the other content you collect.

I don't understand why they don't allow this in every country, if someone wants to take the time to take metal from a bin then why the hell not. Imagine how much these people save from being wasted in landfill. Good on you mate.
As always much love for you and your adventures but tossing those galvanized bolts made me cringe. Thats a few grand going back to be remelted for a few bucks. Oh well on to the next. Keep the videos coming drake!!! Happy holidays!!
I was thinking that too! 😂 so much weight though. It was actually the death of my brakes, I blew a pad clean off and had a pretty big job fixing everything after I noticed, it was enough to deal with already lol

Truck ratings like that are the motor companies covering their butts. I have easily hauled 1500 pounds in my little 98 4Runner with a max weight listed at 800 pounds. Barely had any dip in the suspension.

Sometimes its hard to just scrap something like that hardware. If you had to buy those bolts back, younwould never be able to afford them.

What a load! Maybe you should keep a broom in the back of your truck to quickly sweep it clean after everytime you unload at the scrap yard

If you put rubbing alcohol on a rag and rub it with the way the grain of your hair goes it really helps getting out insulation from your skin. Just watch out for the face. If you do on your face take a deep breath first. Hope this to helps you out.

Damn that was a lot of prep! I think that's close to the heaviest haul I have seen from you...if not the heaviest.
Looks like you went back to that same communications company as before; I told you they would a good place to scrap! :) Those plates with handles were part of a Latchways fall-arrest system and all tower hardware and brackets are usually either heavy-duty galvanized or stainless. Very good haul for you, keep warm!

Please excuse me if I misunderstood, do you mean why did I not separate the pieces of wire and stainless steel boxes from those pieces and instead just threw the whole thing in the shred pile? It’s a mix of laziness and poor returns on the time spent. I’ve found wire is very time consuming and doesn’t pay that much. The stainless boxes I should have removed and sold separately but my space at home is already full of other things to deal with.

sadly you could have sold the fasteners on Facebook and made x3-4 more then what you got for scrap.

I think I’d still take the snow over the heat you all go through! I’ve seen the melted bumpers and bins, that’s a tough go you have out there.
If you mean the giant bin full of rims, that was their scrap recycling bin. I actually went in and asked if I could buy any aluminium ones they had but the boss keeps them inside and brings them in himself

Hey my first time doing this I got 33 bucks for 420 lbs of steel I live in Michigan did I get ripped off or is steel not valuable?
Regular steel, which is magnetic, usually pays the lowest at scrap yards. Non-magnetic stainless steel, copper, brass and aluminum usually pay better.

Hey thub just wanted to say it never hurts to ask but some “metal only” dumpsters are just for recycle not for a kickback and some places will allow you to take stuff. Just from personal experience I’ve come across both. And know the brands usually.

Yeah, that’s the holiday season on the internet. I have some control over where potential adspaces land but nobody gets shown an ad on every one of them. The holidays tend to have a lot more companies bidding for adspace though so they get populated more heavily than other times of the year.
I totally agree its frustrating to be watching something and have it constantly broken up by ads, but please keep in mind those ads are the only way we get paid and without them the content creators wouldn’t be here. There’s always TH-cam premium! It’s surprisingly affordable and with it the creators still get paid and you get an advertisement free experience 👍

@Thubprint , Man I'm really thinking about starting my own channel. I've got a gold mine of construction waste down here in Oregon. Copper, Romex, Brass, Stainless, Cast... You name it, it hits the dumpster. And I have seen enough as a carpenter. I just can't take it anymore. If you see this, could you please get ahold of me somehow. I'm gonna try F.B. Mostly plastic, light weight but takes up lots of room. I pass on them all the time. Only the all-“stainless” ones do I grab.

Sadly not! A worker came out while we were digging and after speaking with them I learned this was just a label printing shop
