Great craic ..Iona's laugh is infectious..I agree you need to have a base of talent its like a great stockperson , its a great natural eye and talent , honed and perfected by hard work. And yes Iona I think we all have different natural talents and while we might never acknowledge them personally others stand back in awe at us.
I'm a bit late to the game, but there are areas, such as agriculture, where "women's" award were added with the hopes of brining more women into traditionally male events. So, they are basically hang overs from days gone day. I'm enjoying these podcast!
Install dippers in markets on store lamb days. Market would make money and a good chunk of farmers would pay a couple of quid to know there coming off the mart clean.
There was a brilliant tv documentary a few years back which screened loads of folk from the general public for hidden natural talents. Was really interesting. The only one I specifically remember was someone who could hold their breath for an unusually long time who went on to compete in high level free diving competitions. I'm sure it was on one if the terrestrial chanels. Good memory's not one of my hidden talents.....😮
Iona - if natural talent had nothing to do with success then anyone could be a professional athlete. Some people just have better athletic skills than others. For example I am not great at catching things. No amount of practice will change that. My brain and hands just don’t work together at a fast enough rate of speed. I am good at other things naturally. We all were born with strengths and weaknesses.
I do think farmers kids do know what’s there but it’s just not for them .but folk that don’t have it think they are spoilt not always the case am a shepherds daughter
